I'm Calling It (Automatron DLC)

Presper

First time out of the vault
I'm calling it, the Mechanist is Moira Brown. Even though I have no proof to back up my claim.

It will be so awesome if I'm right.

So, do you think I'm right? If not, who do you think it will be?

Leaked info already confirmed it is not Moira... [provided the leaks aren't lying].

Anyone tried the DLC yet? it's supposed to be out now.

Nope. Sorry pal. The Mechanist isn't anyone from FO3.

It's some random chick who likes comic books named Isabel Cruz. It's not even someone from FO4. Just a random new lady we've never interacted with and thus have 0 connection to. Yay.

AwWwwWw, what? No returning characters? That flipping sucks. At least I'm partially right, I mean with the fact its a woman and all.

Don't know what you were expecting. This game has been nothing but disappointments. I don't expect the DLC to be any different.

I didn't expect a masterpiece, I just expected a silly, fun, DLC. I didn't think they would completely ignore characters from their previous games to be the Mechanist. That had so much potential, I mean seriously. Now I'm disappointed to the tenth power.

That the Mechanist isn't a returning character is a trivial issue, though. I didn't care that it was someone else when I found out from the leak.

Yeah but for crying out loud they could've at least tied it back to the base game somehow. For example, what if, after the Silver Shroud quest, Kent Connolly realizes he's being completely useless just sitting in that office and decides to be brave like you? A sort of "Following in his footsteps" story. Kent ends up becoming the Mechanist after listening to that one Silver Shroud recording he has that he plays nonstop. He tries to do good deeds but ends up fucking it all up because his machines are malfunctional. He clearly knows how to work with repairs and whatnot given what he can do with the Silver Shroud uniform. It'd be a good match and make perfect sense in terms of narrative. Then your job would be to either put the now insane Kent down, or help him return to his senses and convince him to simply move back to Goodneighbor and keep playing the radio.

Yea, but it really doesn't matter who it is because you can't have a conversation with anyone in the game anyway. Whoever looked at Fallout 4's dialogue system and said it was acceptable is the reason we can't have nice things anymore.

We can't criticize BGS for rehashing old shit one minute and then complain it's not someone we know the next. There's plenty of real critique for this shit show we don't need to start nitpicking.

I never did complain about it not being someone we know. Honestly I would have preferred if it was someone from Fallout 3. At least then I'd feel a teensy bit more connected to this person I'm apparently supposed to feel sympathy for. If it had been that little boy who grew up watching the Antagonizer and the Mechanist fighting and then decided to be the Mechanist himself after watching his hero die/hang up his mantle but slowly went insane as a result of locking himself in a robot factory, then the DLC might've had a little more impact. At least for me.

In hindsight, this is kinda obvious, for bethesda anyaway.

Oh man, is not the Mechanist from FO3? But he was such a memorable and well written character, I wanted to see his journey continue!

SARCASM OVERLOAD.

Who cares? The biggest problem this DLC has is that they are fucking up the Robot Lore even further, Robots in Fallout now are just full blown Geths....

Only on the second game, on the first they were IBOL ROUGUE AIS!!!! and on the third they reprise this role until the overly Anthropomorphized Legion (which is ironic considering his speech about how stupid anthrpomorphizing things was in the second game) turns them into clones of himself.

Am I the only one that really doesn't like this concept with synths? We go from ZAX to full blown AI inside of human like bodies, how the hell does that happen? Then you have the fact that the Institute is this secluded place from society that somehow has the resources to create this shit, how and where do they get the resources to create synths, super mutants, etc? Doesn't fit in with Fallout IMO.
Here we go back to the "What do they eat?" situation again.

It doesn't fit, and the game never makes any attempt at either explaining it or using it for anything with any depth. Synths are so unimportant to the plot that you wonder why they even bothered introducing them at all.

well we know why they added them in...

they think the Fallout setting is cyberpunk whenever it suits their writer's fancy

You can't fuck ZAX.

Look at all the FREE DLC content CD Projekt released for Witcher 3 and then tell me Automatron is worth $10.

As others have pointed out, it is essentially the New Vegas mod "RobCo Certified."

So Bethesda is getting paid for mods after all.
