Impressions of Honest Hearts

Surf Solar

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
So, better create such a thread, eh? I was one of the lucky guys to play it earlier on the Xbox (steam still didn't unlock it?) and managed to play through it already. Now, I am freshly finished and don't really know what to say. I won't post any spoilers, so you can read it.

The start is really good. The NPC you talk to have long dialog trees, interesting things to say and there is 'aplenty of stat and skillchecks in. The arrival in Zion is a bit... anticlimatic? But I could stomach it. The atmosphere of the Park is really spot on, everything looks good to me, sounds good, the rain is now a welcome new thing, some music was missing (it was pretty quiet all the time) and I hoped to hear the Arroyo Theme from FO2 (It's not in :| ). Enemies are very tough, that was a plus. There are some stories to read on old computers (diaries) which were FUCKING GOOD! I really enjoyed reading that. But... The map design is horrible.. While the canyons look good in the first place, you have to do so much hiking, so much searching for the correct rock to jump on, etc. The map looks very nice and atmospheric, but the gameplay to find stuff is horrible imo.

It also feels very.. rushed? Especially the end.. You are doing a couple of quests, it feels like everything slowly comes together, but suddenly, you got to make a decision (Choice&Consequences) out of nowhere on a very inappropriate moment. Then the end was a total joke in my eyes, it is horribly stretched and filled with high level enemies to lengthen the playtime. Suddenly, at some point no one really has anything much to say, no good writing and lengthy dialogs like we love Obsidian for. Everything, again, was so anticlimatic. I expected more from the NPC aswell. I... I don't know, I will replay it tomorrow again. I hope your playthroughs were more enjoyable then mine..

Can you post spoilers in a spoiler box?

I need to base my decision of purchasing this or not, on player reviews, and having storyline spoilers in a review will actually help me decide.

There is none. but i would like to see spoilers, to help me make a decision to buy or not.

Can you post some?

Some people dont want to see them, so please put them in a spoiler box.

I'm enjoying it so far, still really early into the quests having just met Graham, have mainly been spending my time wandering around.

Is it just me or is there a discerning lack of ambient music? Most of the time it's just silence, and strangely the Brotherhood military-style theme tends to play when there is music which feels totally out of place.

After all the hype and the legend of the Burned Man, I do have to say that he doesn't seem like too bad of a guy so far. Creepily faithful, but he's nice, someone you'd hang out with.

Found it so, so weird being able to trade with him and ask him for repairs http://willooi.tumblr.com/post/5589467152/the-burned-man-walks-and-is-available-for-trade.

As for his death-defying skills...[spoiler:a9ea5acb97]I tried killing him by planting C4 to 'see what would happen', and not only does he seem unkillable, but he also took my L36 character down in one shot with the .45 auto pistol. Badarse.[/spoiler:a9ea5acb97]

I've been slowly taking in the scenery as it were, been at it for almost two hours and am just about to meet Graham.

I like that I've been led astray (if I chose to do so) this early. Speaking, of course, of the perk Follower Chalk gives you.

Just finished it. It was a satisfactory experience.

[spoiler:ef6e07a311] I wonder how the white legs got shishkebobs?

Also, the footlocker at the end was nice for pack rats (like me) but confusing. Why would Josh, Daniel, and Chalk just leave their stuff for you? [/spoiler:ef6e07a311]

Anybody having trouble getting the Little Bighorner to follow you? He stops about half-way every time, no matter what I try. WTF man.

Also, outside of the quests, finding those messages left on the terminals of that survivor: brilliant.

Have you been going back to feed him more banana yucca? You should still get the 'interact with bighorner calf' window.

Bloody Follows-Chalk tells me to try not to kill any of them, and so I'm there doing my best to sneak past, got the calf following me and almost at the end and then suddenly HE opens fire.

Dialogue options then have ME apologising!!

Yeah, I tried. I only got the option "Leave Him Alone". :|

Uh oh. Sounds like it might be 'reload a previous save' time.

I've currently got an annoying bug where my vision is permanently blurred from being poisoned by some White Legs. Using Dantura Antivenom and normal Antivenom just repeatedly brings up the 'Poison removed' notification, and hard resets don't do anything.

Can't get it from steam, says I need to own the previous game, I have no idea what i'm supposed to do. Do I need dead money or does it not realize that i own NV?

So can those of you who already have Honest Hearts tell me if it's as hard as Dead Money was? I won't be able to download it until tomorrow. :(
