InXile Entertaiment general discussion thread

Все умрут, а я волномут
Any topics related to their games and the company in general.

I'll start with an unpopular opinion never really spoken aloud - InXile can't make games for shit when they are not under control of publisher as their Kickstarter-funded games show. Wasteland 2 had next to no edit in writing (resulted in overwriting and loredump problem) and gameplay was barebones until they implemented perks and quirks to define main characters a bit more. Numenera.... deserves a dedicated review, really. Considering the attention InXile gets from the medium, as they're sitting in a narrow niche of CRPGs, other smaller studios, HBS, Iron Tower, the guys behind Underrail, won't get much needed attention and hype.

How long their kickstarter scheme will generate new funds? At first glance, Bard's Tale 4 KS shows clear decline, but WL3 campain somehow regained the money flow.

IMO, InXile had the merit to bring the renewal of indie isometric RPG to a broader attention. Their KS increased the records of the most money gathered for a Kickstarter project. Their products might not be perfect, but i wouldn't qualify them as outright awfull, awfull enough to be detrimental to the genre. The attention they bring to the genre means more players likely to look forward HBS or Styg games. Yet, at some point, those new indie companies also deserve they share of sunlight, and not remain under the shadow of the likes of InXile and Obsidian.

The thing is, with T:ToN InXile just stopped trying. Numenera shows that mismanagement are still here. Mismanagement. In a small-scale indie studio. Working on a game with budget higher than PoE, based on PoE engine, (which means you have less job for programmers to offer -> less moni to spend on reinventing the wheel) and where did those money go? IDK, but Fargo's mansion is quite nice and comfy.

There are serious management issues over at InXile and I feel their ambition definitely outweighs their actual studio talent, but at the end of the day, Wasteland 2 is still better than what Bethesda's doing with Fallout and that has to earn them some points somewhere. For some folks, that's good enough. For others it isn't.

I haven't checked up on 'anything' regarding Bards Tale (cause meh!) but I heard from someone else that there's barely any spotlight on Bards Tale, any truth to that? Are they actually giving a damn about it?

TToN was at 74% approval rating a few days ago btw. It's now at 70%.
Seems like the ratings over there is at a decline.

Nothing much so far, InXile showed some combat footage 8 feb, but other than that, nope.
BTW, if someone is into both dungeon crawlers and Occulus Rift, then InXile preparing a VR BT game just for VR.

Just looked it up, from first glance I find it more interesting than TToN did at first glance. Looks far more polished.

So was T:ToN in 2015 when they showed first glimses of gameplay. BT4 has all chances to be a flop.

BT was decent on the Xbox despite straying from every single thing aside from humor that the original did great. It felt like PoS actually in some respects. Fucking Fargo. He bought the rights to Wasteland in 2007 and I missed that somehow.

As I understand it, for the 2004 BardsTale game, InXile was only able to secure the rights to use the IP name itself; and nothing else. It could only have ever been a spin-off.

I doubt InXile will go on for much longer after Fargo is gone. He is a great PR persona, even if games he recently helmed were shite for the most part. Okay, I'm maybe a bit harsh, but everything InXile kickstarted was mediocre with huge potential. In any case, InXile is a prime example of how to poorly run a studio.
They haven't delivered on most of their promises, weren't particularly transparent with their projects and overall results were pretty much meh.

WL3 will be the cut-off line for the firm, but I have no hopes it will be good - regardless, sold copies will be the judge. However, if Fargo really quits InXile loses its main asset. Not saying they wouldn't be able to KS another title after that, maybe even another one, but it will be beginning of their downfall. The trend of crowdfunding games is in a decline - it was a novelty few years back, but after many developers failed to deliver on their many promises it is no wonder people aren't that enthusiastic anymore.

Unless somebody who is actually competent at managing that trainwreck of a company takes over, I don't give InXile more than 5 years after Fargo is out.

I pretty much agree with what you wrote Atomkilla, on Brian Fargo and on Inxile probably dying a slow death once Fargo has retired from game making.

I honestly wanted to believe in Inxile and in Kickstarter funded games, hope it would break the current cycle of poorly recycled gaming IPs and repetitive game design philosophies, but sadly that was not the case with a few exceptions here and there.

Does Kickstarter funding still have a future when it comes to computer games?
