Left 4 Dead gone gold

Myounage

First time out of the vault
Left 4 Dead just opened up for preloading on Steam, which is basically the same as having gone gold. However, there's still just over a month left until release. Know why that is? So the 360 version can release a cozy couple weeks after GoW2. That's right, Valve is delaying a PC shooter because of Cliffy B's Xbox bullshit. Not even the holy Valve is holy anymore.

How does this make you feel?

It's not up for pre-loading, it's up for pre-purchase. Big difference.
I bought it and it hasn't started downloading yet.
They're probably still finishing up everything.
Hell, I've seen numerous statements saying they pulled everyone from the TF2 teams and HL2:EP3 teams just to hit that deadline.
There's no indication that it's gone gold yet, no press release, no nothing.

Nothing new really man.
They pretty much screwed the Half Life 2 Single Player fans like me when they announced that Episode 3 will probably be released in the second half of 2009, which will probably mean that we won't see it till 2010.

Way to go Valve.

Doh! I misread it. And 2010 for ep 3? Seriously? Shit. Well, it had better be as long as eps 1 & 2 combined.

Valve should post a release date for Half-Life 3 soon. It'll read: Right after Duke Nukem Forever.

I really like it that they put so much effort in their games but I honestly think the Episode concept has pretty much failed.

Would it not have been possible to make a complete Expansion pack that includes elements from Ep 1, 2 and 3 right some years after Half Life 2?

Ah, but here we are some years after Half-Life 2. I think the all-encompassing expansion would be coming out sometime soon, and would probably end up being just a little less. Anyway, maybe it has.
If Valve was a lesser developer I'd say that eps were good solely because it forces them to break the story into well-paced arcs with natural transitions, but Valve does that anyway.

quit whining you bitches. what would you rather have? a terribly buggy and unpolished Ep3? or wait a little while to make it really worthwhile?

do you want them to pull an FO2? i think not.

Yeah, really. Nobody has a better track record for polish than Valve.

Also, their track record for delays proceeds them by a million miles. Myounage - you do realize L4D was supposed to be out in 2007, right? So now you're gonna complain about a month, and because Valve is smart and knows how to sell PC games? Buy a console, already!

Plus if I remember right most of the anger surrounding Half Life 2 came around the very last delay which had to do with the stolen source code.

Personally, I'd blow any and all Valve employees. I have been playing The Orange Box and for Portal, I'd grow a uterus and have their children.

So don't be a wuss. Wait it out. Get an excellent polished game.

It's short as fuck, and the matchmaking system (console garbage) should have been dropped from the start; but the actual game is great.

here's a sorta kinda workaround for the matchmaking:

- enable the developer console in the keyboard options
- type openserverbrowser in the console, hit enter
- refresh server list

There's a decent ammount of dedicated servers out there, which are approximately a billion times more stable then hosting it yourself. You can also cast votes to change the difficulty, if it's set too high or low by default.

Except that v_allow_lobby_connect_only is on by default, which doesn't allow users to connect from the server browser.

Except that I've connected to multiple servers from the browser, on purpose even.

They've updated the demo several times since it was unlocked, in case you only tried it once or twice.

UPDATE: Video of player controlled Tank gameplay

While I havn't played the demo with anyone. Even as a single player thing it's still pretty damn fun.
My buddy and I are gonna use the demo for some practice tonight then wait till it comes out.

*proceeds to have sex with any and all Valve employees.*

Would of prefer slower tougher zombies with no bosses or anything and way more limited ammo(no unlimted pistol ammo) but it's still good. But Earth Defence force has it beat in everyway except online multiplayer.

Anyway I might be just a console player but what is so wrong with matchmaking?

ps. Matchmaking was born on the PC.

Played the PC Demo the other day and i must say that i really fell in love with the damn thing !
