Mass Effect 2

Surf Solar

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Not that the first title got no flaws, but I found it was an alright game, especially the story (or more the "codex") and the relaxing "explore those planets" bit of it. Now the second title is coming.

What do you think of it?

And for the lulz: I found a video, which shows the our "beloved" mobile nuke launcher from FO3 is also featured in ME2. 't was about 1:16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCpK2XnIaeI&feature=channel

At least the nuke launcher makes sense in Mass Effect 2, where everyone is wearing space suits with helmets. Hell, one of my favourite sci-fi books features them (Starship Troopers).

I played through Mass Effect 2 and enjoyed the atmosphere and the story, although it was standard and predictable. It did a decent job of putting you in a film-like environment.

However, combat was boring as hell, dialogue options often didn't mean what you thought they would mean and most of your companions were pretty uninteresting. Worst of all, the planets you could explore were generic, uninteresting pieces of rock that added next to nothing to the game.

Wait, you already played ME2? Or was it a typo? I thought the release was later?

And yes, you exactly wrote down the flaws the first title had. I hope the second one is doing a better job.

It's probably one game I'm looking forward to the most in 2010. Sander hit the nail on the head with his critique but I still liked the first one a lot.

If BioWare fixes half of the first one's issues in ME2 -which it looks like it's aiming to do- the game will freaking kick ass.

All I need to do now is decide whether to get it for PC or 360.

I wasn't a fan of it at first (Seemed like I was on the Citadel forever), but I forced myself to trudge on and really enjoyed it. To this day I've gone through it three full times, and enjoyed every playthrough.

I haven't though much about ME2, but now that it's about to be released I'm pretty hyped.

I'm certainly hyped, ME was one of the most enjoyable games of recent years for me.

but like most other people, I absolutely hated the planet exploration.

Atleast there were planets whith nothing but big deserts on it, they were ok and believable (still pretty boring because of the monotonous sidequests but with beautiful panoramas), but the planets which had vegetation on it still looked the same like the empty ones, just painted green. I hope they put atleast a few trees or something on to make it more believable. Then, the control of the mako was really horrible, especially on planets with lots of mountains. The combat was really boring, yeah. I hope BioWare does the job better this time. There are also lots of new characters, afair they all could die permanently during the game (also Shepard) which I find a bit confusing, but there seem to be more Consequences on your choices, which is actually good.

it'll be interesting to see what they've done about the combat. I read that they've "blurred the line between rpg and fps even more". which I can only imagine will mean that combat is even more action-oriented, and they might actually have done away with the pause system.

to be honest I didn't mind combat at all in the first game, it was tactical enough for me. what bothered me was that it became ridiculously easy after a while.

Play through it on Insanity as any class besides Vanguard/Soldier and I promise it won't be ridiculously easy. For the most part, you'll get dropped in 1-5 hits (Even with the best armor/shields, snipers will always fry you in one hit).

Silly. Every NMA'er knows that Sander Knows Everything.

again retarded heaps of cash were spent on useless celebrity voice talent. some are ok, but some are just retarded. it's silly when you know they could've hired a fuckton of more talented and cheaper professional 'voice actors' instead of normal 'actors'.

ME2 isn't officially out yet, so technically that's warez talk. Strike one.

They took not only the voice of this actress here, they also modelled her face and body into the game http://masseffect.bioware.com/universe/characters/miranda/ . So one could say she's acting in the game. Her name is Yvonne Strahovski. I don't know if I should like that, but besides that I won't have her in my team anyway. Also, I played through the german version and I think the voice acting was very well done, I got no problem with.

The most stupid thing for me is still the "fatman". [/quote]

For the second one they did hire a lot of known actors. There is Martin Sheen, Carrie Ann Moss, Adam Baldwin and many others. Most of them I'd only recognize if I saw them so I don't mind but someone like Martin Sheen could be distracting.

I'd prefer they spent that Martin Sheen money on a couple of solid, lesser known guys.

Also, I wanted to add that ME's combat was a LOT more boring if played as a Soldier. The other classes with their abilities, made it way more interesting.

So far, it looks like I'll be a Vanguard or an Infiltrator. Just because I like sniping people from across the map with tactical cloaking or killing them by tackling them psychic-style.

I think the combat looks much better. I think you can do more damage with headshots and knock limbs off robots. Also, you have no autocover anymore and those Mako Missions (AKA the drive around the same planets killing the same dudes in the same bunkers missions) are gone as everything is closer to your drop zone.

Why? AFAIR it is still possible. Now you control with the Normandy itself through the galaxy, scan every planet you'd like etc. I'd also be really dissappointed if they'd thrown this feature out, but it is in. :) This was'nt a game specific "feature", but it was really relaxing and interesting, also with this music in. It really gave me shivers, when I discovered, that the "local cluster" is actually our system. Watching the earth from the moon was really cool.

I may be alone in this but I actually liked exploring planets in the Mako. There was just nothing to do on them. I'd rather they keep this feature but add stuff to discover and a bunch of random things to do and see.
