It looks surprisingly good. And Mila Kunis looks just like Mona Sax did in the first Max Payne.

Your thoughts?

For some reason, I keep thinking the setting "they killed my family, it's pay back time"...

Hope hollywood won't fuck this up.

- The music was hopelessly out of place.

- Flying monsters? What the fuck?

- Really bad compilation of generic shooting scenes.

- Mila Kunis can't act.

Overall a shitty trailer, but I'm sure the movie will be watchable.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Not sure about the lead actor.. i did like him in The Departed, but this is something different. We'll see, i suppose.

Possibly the first good (or at least, decent) game-based movie since Mortal Kombat.

@^ - the 'monsters' are angels, i suppose. "The flesh of fallen angels", remember?

A Max Payne movie, I completely forgot they were making this. I was half expecting to get Rick Rolled.

But holy crap, this might actually be a good movie. Is it true?

Totally disagree. The music fits perfectly and is quite probably the best part of the trailer.

Have you played Max Payne. Do you remember the bad trip sequences? The Norse Mythology? The Valkyr?

I'll give you that. But like I said, she does look exactly like Mona Sax in the first Max Payne; Deceptively fragile.

Seems weird to make a movie on the game franchise this late after its release. Still, I thought it looked pretty darn good. Though a few of the shooting scenes looked a little TOO matrixy (yes I know the game had bullet time but even the locations and scenes looked straight outta the matrix)

Really? To me it just seemed to drone on and on, not the actiony type you'd expect for those type of scenes.

I played until you got to the laundromat and started being pursued by swat teams. Thats when the game shat a brick and refused to load past that point.

I'll probably end up playing through the entire game at some point before I see the movie, although I'll have to [XXXXXX] it since the CD refuses to install under Vista.

Boll ain't the director? There's hope.

I liked the music and, perhaps, this will prove to be an entertaining movie, though I seriously doubt it. Max Payne is not the best material for a movie IMO.

You're kidding, right? It practically is a movie.

Looks good, but I really hope they don't turn it into a supernatural thriller. I know there are the bad trip sequences and the nightmares but, well, it seems to be more important than "just" that in the movie. We'll see.

yay

revenge story #216* incoming
i am so excited that i bore a hole into my kneecap and poured milk into it! this will be another, totally generic b-movie. if the shootings are ok, so then whats not to like? otoh, even if it turns out ok, how many fucks should one give?

"They killed my family now I'm going to kill them violently as I am above the law and BTW solve a criminal case in the process" ain't a fantastic movie material IMO. And because it is *stylized* to be a movie doesn't change much - Max Payne is a one-trick slow-mo based game with some good VO and dialogues from time to time.

Seems more like a comic book in the vein of Sin City to me.
So I'd say it's actually a game based on comic books based on movies.
And now we're getting a movie based on a game based on comic books based on movies.

Seriously though, I hope that angel o' death thing isn't real, and just a hallucination.
Occult themes and bad trips: Good.
SUDDENLY, MONSTERS EVERYWHERE: Bad.

Na, i doubt the monsters and the angels gonna be real.. unless the director is either insane or Uwe Boll (he redefines that classification).

I myself always felt like watching a really, really good criminal thriller when playing either Max Payne. An interactive movie in which i can actually shoot the bad guys. Great narrative, superior atmosphere, not to mention the games are quote gold mines. Dunno how one can say they're bland or generic, but i guess it's a matter of taste.

The movie will be more than watchable, if they get the highlights of the game right.

I always thought that Max Payne would make a good movie. Mostly because it's hard to fuck up the basic premise of Cop V. Bad Guys with crazy gunfights.

Then again, I always thought that Hitman would make a good movie and we all saw where that ended up.
