maximum number of random encounters per table

As I was adding encounters needed for my upcoming expansion pack I noticed that Fallout 2 would give the following error message when I add more than 40 encounters to a specific table in the WORLDMAP.TXT file.

wmConfigInit::Error: Encounter Table: Too many table indexes!!

40 encounters seems to work properly but anything above this will cause the error to display and Fallout 2 to crash on startup. Just wanted to make this bit of information available to anyone if this was not already known to the modding community.

Did you edited the file named worldmap.msg?
If you add/remove encounters in worldmap.txt you have to make the same changes in worldmap.msg.
I think, this is max 49 encounters possible in one table.
If you study worldmap.msg file you will know why.

No, killap's right. The maximum is only 39 encounters (actually 40, because it starts with 0). Editing that worldmap.msg file doesn't make any difference...if you forget to do it, then you just get "You encounter: Error" as you go across the worldmap. But if you try to add more than 40 encounters, the game doesn't work.

Yes forgetting to edit the worldmap.msg file just produces text errors. Also, yes it is 40 and not 39 (forgot it started at 0, I shall make that correction to the first post)

I take it you have already run into such an error before then MIB88? I guess it is not new to everyone then.

I just tested the worldmap.txt and you are right, only 40 encounters could be in one Table :(
