MIB88 Megamod version 2.33 new BOS bunker problem.

First time out of the vault
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and website. I have installed MIB88 megamod version 2.33 under Win98 SP2. I have started and played a substantial amount of a game and everything has been going well except:
1.When I try to enter the new BOS bunker (the one with all the BOS soldiers in power armor standing around the entrance), the game crashes with the error message " GDialog: Error grabbing text message!".
2. The game crashes when I try to enter the Primitive Tribe location.
3. I have the EPA location button on the world map even though I have not discovered the EPA location, and when I press it, I am taken to the BOS research facility.

Everything else has been working well in this FANTASTIC mod that has breathed completely new life into my favorite game of all time. Please, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

PS. The F2 install was a virgin install as specified in the installation instructions.

Thanks for your patience guys. I read through the entire thread you referenced but could not find a workaround for the BOS bunker crash problem other than using the mapper to change the dialog file, which I am not really comfortable with. Is there any other way to get into the bunker?

I hope to have a release very soon. The elevator will be fixed in the next release, along with a number of other bugs. Also, a different map for the Primitive Tribe will be included for those using Windows 98.

The reason the EPA button sometimes takes you to the research facility is because the research facility was the EPA in another mod (Alternative Life). This is a remnant from the mod that I will add to the list of bugs that need correcting.

Guys, thanks for your replies and informaton. In case it's not obvious, I am a newbie all aspects of foruming (??) and appreciate your timely answers. I have been playing the Fallout series since F1 first came out and really like these games. This Megamod has really breathed completely new life into this classic game. I usually play strategy and war games but my son introduced me to F1 years ago and I was hooked. Thank you for your work, MIB88, and please continue it as your time and life allows.

Ok I was bored so here is a fix for the BoS Bunker elevators.
Just extract the file into your ...\Fallout2\DATA\text\english\dialog folder.

cheers

Oh Darek, you're gonna be loved.

P.S => I'm gonna play the megamod (once again). I put your elevator fix in my files. I'll tell ya if it works fine.

Darek is really shining these days. First he finds the reason for the Primitive Tribe crash under 98, then he narrows down the cause to the "too many items" bug, and now he is fixing bugs. What next!

Darek, thanks a million, man. I will install the fix file tonight and see how it works (with high hopes).

Thanks guys. I had a bit of time on my hands (something the hard working modders never seem to have enough of) so I thought I might as well help out.
What next killap? If we've managed to crack the elusive and "legendary too many items bug" (as I've seen it described in several places) I might as well retire. Nothing's ever gonna be fun or feel like a challenge again. :P
Seriously though, the car trunk bug maybe, or if you have something else fun for me.

Ah, yes the car trunk bug. I wish I knew what was going on with that...

Darek, the bunker elevator fix worked perfectly. Much thanks. I did not have much time to play last night so I was unable to try out your map fix for the Primitive Tribe, but I have confidence it will work as well as this one. On a side note to MIB88, the BOS bunker area seems to me to have a lot of potential for further developement, although I have no idea of the difficulties involved. Once again, thanks to you both for all of your hard work.

I'm glad it worked out for you.
The Primitive tribes map is unfortunately not complete. The method I used to fix that map broke the exit grids between the two locations in there, and I didn't know how to change it, but MIB88 does, so I'm sure it will be fine in the next update.

As it is now all the exit grids lead back out to the world map. The workaround for this is that the second time you enter the Primitive tribe area, the Town map will come up, just push 2 on your keyboard and you will get to the second area. (the car will still be on the first area iirc)
It it is playable at least :)

MIB88, I noticed that in the BOS bunker, there is a scientist that is researching armor. He carries a suit of super power armor that can be obtained from him through barter. But if you put it on, you become invisible and if you try to move, the game instantly crashes. Is this something that has not been fully implemented, or do I need to do something else to use this cool armor?. I am not asking for a game hint, just a yes or no answer on the last part of my question would be great. As always, thanks for this engrossing mod.

Shoot. Something else that is messed up. It's not calling the armor art properly. I will fix it if it is fully implemented. It's supposed to be a new armor from Fallout Tactics, just like the environmental armor. (I recently got the environmental armor working, so that you now have a new appearance when wearing it.) I will fix the advanced armor too.
But, he offered it through barter? That doesn't seem right at all. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the authors of the Alternative Life mod had as their final vision of it. Maybe I will keep it as barter for now, and incorporate it into a quest later. Thanks for pointing this out.

In my game, I can put it on during a test, but my character looks like a cockroach from Fallout tactics. A bit weird isn't it? or is it an allusion to the moment where we can put on a brahmin armor in a special encouter ?

No, it is a bug (no pun intended). It is supposed to use art from Fallout Tactics... Brotherhood power armor.

Yeah, Ok. When it will be fixed, it will be awesome. I've always liked this FoT armor.

btw, good luck for the next release. I suppose you need nerves of steel to face up bugs  .
