More Fallout 4 rumoring from Kotaku

WorstUsernameEver

But best title ever!
Kotaku is claiming to have come in possession of some casting documents for Fallout 4, which would reveal, among other things, a voiced main character. While rumors like this have to be taken with a grain of salt, Kotaku has recently put together an impressive resume of rumors turned true, so it's certainly worth a look. <blockquote>"War. War never changes," is the classic introduction used at the beginning of Fallouts 1, 2, and 3. That speech is typically narrated by actor Ron Perlman, although this page seems to suggest that the player-character will read the monologue this time around.

Other documents describe a mission set in the Institute—Fallout's post-apocalyptic version of MIT—and references to other Fallout locations that have been mentioned but never shown in other games, like the Commonwealth, which comprises what's left of Massachusetts

One character in the documents—who, again, may not show up in the actual game—is named Preston Garvey. One script describes a mission in which Garvey sends you to salvage a fusion core from a museum in the Commonwealth.

...

The casting documents describe some of the other characters in the next Fallout's wasteland, like a radio DJ named Travis Miles and an engineer named Sturges who is described as "a cross between Buddy Holly and Vin Diesel." Casting calls for both the male and female versions of the player character note that the player begins the game in a cryogenic sleep chamber.

Again, it's worth noting that these details may have been invented for the casting call, and they may change during development. We also don't know whether the game will be called Fallout 4, or whether Boston will be the sole setting or just one of many.</blockquote>

Like I said in the thread in General Fallout Discussion, this is giving off a certain eau d'Survivor2299. The documents don't provide a wealth of detail, but what they do give us lines up almost perfectly with the story and the version of the Commonwealth the Survivor teases were building. That could just be coincidence, but this "leak" does happen to have been published on 11/12/13, the date the Survivor site was originally counting down to. On top of that, the documents were supposedly passed on to the author of the article two weeks ago, at the height of the whole thing. The cynical (so at this point, probably best) bet would be that this is the Survivor perpetrator's last gasp.

OR MAYBE.... it was all planned by Beth from the start. *puts on tin-foil hat*

Same here. That's why The Vault chose to report on it not as OMGBREAKINGNEWSAGAIN (we reserve that for actual Fallout 4 announcements :)), but encouraging skepticism. It helps that the Wasteland 2 beta got released, which is just awesome.

That would make Bethsoft's agents "the Survivor perpetrator," would it not?

Equivocation means never having to say "I was wrong"

I think this is all real and Bethesda has some serious leak problems in the building since 2012.

Yeah, this still look like something from The Survivor thing. It even have the player waking up from cryogenic sleep.

A voiced player character huh? I guess the dialogue will be worse and more simplified, because creating a more elaborate dialogue e more options will cost more than ''Hi,Yes I will help you,Ok,Bye.''

2013 is really the year of FO4 rumors

I'm perplexed why most of the Kotaku commenters seem to be overlooking the documents' setting—apparently right after the bombs were dropped, in the immediate aftermath. That's an interesting concept, but otherwise this all seems to be standard cookie-cutter Bethesda, right down to a boring male protagonist and a few caricatures. Characters like Joshua Graham or New Vegas's companions are an impossible dream when they're in charge.

Interesting, but I'm going to look at this with a healthy dose of skepticism. Only thing I'm certain of, is that we'll wear about FO4 next year for sure.

Kotaku wants to ride the traffic train left by Survivor2299 so they release a very lazy "leak" of things that have already been rumored in the past.... This will need a kilo of salt.

Yeah, I don't like that "21st century" in the player character speech. If it gets real and the rumors about no BoS and SM are true, I'm not buying the game. I'm not asking about full BoS/SM protagonism, just some small settlements like in New Vegas, because like it or not, those factions are a fundamental part of the series since FO1.

They're iconic, sure, but fundamental?
Far from that.

BoS/Enclave/Super Mutants and all that jazz need to have a break for a bit. Of course, Bethesda isn't capable of making a good FO game, and they most certainly aren't capable of making a FO game without ruining/inserting some franchise icons.

I want an argument for having to have them in every game. They don't need to be in every game for it to be fallout.

The BOS were basically a cameo in FO2, they don't need to be ever present.

Do a Terminator movie without T-800. Those factions are iconic, they need to be in there at least as a small optional settlement. In NV you don't need to socialize with them to finish the main quest.

apples and oranges. Fallout can work without the BoS. What happens when you try to squeze them in at all costs can be seen in F3, where I never felt like the BoS should have been in the capital wasteland, together with the Supermutants and the Enclave.

Forgive my arrogance and self promotion but in my Fallout Texas concept the Brotherhood and the Enclave aren't even present, only some of their tech is, and the setting works just fine without them as there is another tech faction to replace them with its own agenda (post humanism)
There are Super Mutants but they are more like the ones of FNV than the armies of Fallout 1 and Fallout 3, having long since accepted that their mission of conquering the wasteland and replacing regular humans as the dominant lifeform is a failure.

As others here already stated, the BOS and the Enclave, or Super Mutants are not necessary to make a Fallout game. The comparison with the Terminator movies is not a valid one. (I hate the idea of more Terminator movies but they can make stories that do not involve the T-800 model but a complete different model terminator)
