Morton's List

So, this looks fucking awesome. Although they stopped selling the game on December 21st, 2012. The reason I'm guessing though, is because they were banned by one of the biggest gaming conventions in the world. You can still purchase this game on Amazon.com, but the prices are seriously insane. Like, SERIOUSLY insane. Check it out for yourself.....

Anyways, here is a little preview of the game:

Even though the game is virtually impossible to get unless is you somehow have a few hundred bucks saved up to spend on bullshit, there IS a silver lining.

I've been working with a group to recreate this game, with different rules, and much more variations of more SERIOUS QUESTS. Though, a project like this is a very large undertaking. The group, is a Southwest US based group of gamers who have a passion for board games, pen and paper games, and generally anything nerdy that doesn't have to do with video games. Their name? The Wolves Den. I approached them with the idea of recreating Morton's List for FREE, so that everyone can play. Not only will we be recreating the list, but it will have a much more serious output, and it will have much more variations of quests. Trust me when I say we are working HARD (almost all of the time that I am not sleeping, drinking, or working, I am putting in to helping re-create this game) to make this damn game.

So far, we haven't decided on the recreation's name. Ideas fold themselves as things such as: Morton's List: Call of the Ancients, Morton's List: Omega Version, or Morton's List: Inner Circle Triumph.

While, like I said, it will take a good while for us to complete a game like this, we have already started on the BETA version of the game. We are working pretty damn hard for something that is going to be "almost" entirely free (almost meaning, there will still be a couple things you will need. A couple meaning: two six sided dice, and one thirty sided die you can use as your "Morton's Boulder". The six sided die are easily obtainable, and the thirty sided die can be bought for cheap at Amazon and various other internet location stores).

Here is an example, of the BETA version of our new Morton's List (thanks to the Wolves Den, and of course, myself. When the BETA version is finished, we will be creating a brand new website to launch this. Hopefully we don't get shut down by the game's original creators, although that shouldn't be a problem since we're not profiting off the game):

INTRODUCTION SPOILER:

--------------------------------------------
I. What Is Morton's List?
--------------------------------------------

Morton's List is a guide of Quests. A Quest is an adventure that one will embark upon for a certain purpose, most often for the reward that awaits the questor at the end of the Quest. Any adventure, mission, operation, whatever the individual would like to call it, they are all simply Quests, given different names. The original Morton's List is a series of quests created by very spiritually active and imaginative teenagers in Detroit, Michigan. Thus, it is here that the list was birthed into existence. The original list complies several hundred quests of which one could take, for any purpose, whether it be to reap the benefits and rewards of the quest, or whether it be of simple boredom. Either way, Morton's List allows those to explore what was previously unexplored, different journies of different difficulties, from simple every day activities to legendary quests one could invoke. Regardless of what Morton's List is used for, one this is fact: this list has changed the current wake and flow of things in many lives. The original Morton's List was created many years ago, and it wasn't until the 21st Century that the list was made available for everyone to use. It's creators invested their time, heart, and spirit into the creation of the list. Imbued within it lies the energy of it's creators, which powers the list, giving it the effect it has on people around the globe. Without this energy, without the spirit invested into this list, Morton's List would be nothing more than an ordinary list of activites. However, because of the energy force that lies within, most who use the list will say otherwise.

--------------------------------------------
II. What Is Call of the Ancients?
--------------------------------------------

While the original Morton's List is a masterpiece in itself, the Call of the Ancients offers both the same originality of the original, while introducing different Quests and approaches. As the original, the Call of the Ancients invokes karma, fate, universal law, mysticism, logic, scholar studies, and basic activities. The Call of the Ancients is more recent, and invokes a brand new edition of Morton's List, expanded upon by several veteran Morton's List players whom, like the original creators, invested much of their time, energy, and soul on to creating this new version of Morton's List.Remember; choosing to play is always up to you. Playing this game is no simple effort, nor should it be treated like such, and should not be looked upon with anything other than a serious mindset, and the quests it gives should be carried out in an equally serious effort. It is very highly recommended that you read everything before proceeding on to undertaking a Quest.

FURTHER INTRO SPOILER:
--------------------------------------------
I. Elements Of The List...
--------------------------------------------
Here, the basic elements of Morton's List

• THE QUEST •
Quests are the most basic elements of this game. The entire purpose of Morton's List is to go on, and complete victoriously whatever quest has been handed down to you. The way the quests are given is through the Morton Boulder, which will be rolled by the Table Master (this will be discussed later). While the Quests may seem completely randomized, left up to "the luck of the draw", if the Quest is properly prepared for and the boulder is properly charged, then the Quest may be able to align itself with the undertakers of the Quest's own stars and fate. There are approximately 390 Quests in Morton's List, not counting the "specialty lists". The Quests are further divided under "Tables". Each Table has thirty of the 390 Quests, and there are thirteen Tables in total. Each of the Quests are different, however the Table groups them into a certain, open-ended category. There are many different Quests and, depending which Table you arrive on, will depend on what the Quest will be of. As said earlier, Quests range from simple activities which one would do on their free time, to mystical, creative, challenging, adventurous, to all of these combined. A Quest can be undertaken by two, or even a single person; however it is recommended that there be a minimum of three in your party. Quests are to be taken with the utmost serious attitude, unless specifically directed otherwise. You may only take one Quest per day.If a Quest is failed, then the Table Master must wait until the next Sunday to participate in another Morton's List Quest, while the Inner Circle members must wait three full days. If a party member has abandons a Quest, they may not participate in another Quest for an entire week's time. When choosing a Quest, the Table Master and Inner Circle can choose to reject the Quest given to them. A rejection may only be used once per day, no matter what the reason. The next given Quest must be taken, if again refused, it will be considered as abandoning the quest; refer above for the penalty.

• MANIPULATION •
Unlike the original Morton's List, there are two different sets of Manipulations. The primary set of Manipulations act as a wild card to be taken by the party, which adds different elements of the Quest and objectives which must be achieved. This primary set is entirely optional. The next set is the "secondary set" of Manipulations. Each Quest has twelve possible manipulations which can be taken, setting a different priority and goal for the Quest in order to highly customize each Quest. The secondary Manipulation MUST be taken, it is not optional. Only one primary and secondary Manipulation can be taken, unless the rules of said Quest specified as otherwise.

• TABLE •
A "Table" is a category of which Quests are under. There are a total of thirteen Tables, with thirty Quests in each Table. Nine of these tables are the "primary" Tables which will be played most often. The remaining three Tables are known as "Higher Tables", which are illusive are harder to achieve in a boulder roll - if, again, left merely up to chance. Each Table holds it's own category, for example, Order, Chaos, Spiritual, etcetera. Some of the Table names in the Call of the Ancients differ from the original Morton's List, while others also hold different categories. The Tables are locked in a wheel, which is known as the "Wheel of Life".

The Nine Primary Tables are as follows:
I) Solar Rise (Everyday leisure/fun activities)
II) Cosmic Law (Activities that have to do with expanding knowledge and educational gain
III) The Golden Path (Activities involving mysticism, religious, black/white magical, witch craft, or paranormal activities, such as visiting a Buddhist temple or conducting a tarot reading, or even performing a saiance)
[FURTHER INFORMATION REDACTED]

The Three "Higher" Tables are as follows:
X) Yang of Sky (involves "good activities" such as helping a charity, or [FURTHER INFO REDACTED]
XI) Yin of Earth [involves "bad activities", such as seeking revenge on [FURTHER INFO REDACTED]
XII) Rainbow Dragon [involves "epic" or "lifelong" quests, such as [FURTHER INFO REDACTED]

• MORAL CODE •
Everyone has a Moral Code. While each and every person's Moral Code differs, is more elaborate and complex, each one of us lives by our own personal code; whether that code include morals or not. Whether this code is influenced by religious faith, governmental laws, or comes from an inner sense or personal belief, is not important. What is important is that people in a questing party recognize and respect the beliefs of others in their party, whatever they may be and wherever they may come from. If a moral code stands in the way of a Quest to be completed, the Quest can be modified or the Quest can be refused for another Quest (see above for rules).

• INNER CIRCLE •
The Inner Circle consists of each of the members of the Questing party. The Inner Circle is established when the players take their oath to do whatever Quest is rolled. When the oath is taken and the Quest has started, the members of the Inner Circle are spiritually bound together until they either complete, or abandon the Quest. An Inner Circle is typically made up of three members (including the Table Master), however single Quests can be taken out, and more party members can be added. The Inner Circle must work together (unless directed otherwise) to take part in, and complete their given Quest.

• TABLE MASTER •
One member of the Inner Circle is randomly determined to become the Table Master for the duration of the Quest. Although still part of the Inner Circle, the Table Master is wields many responsibilities, such as guiding the group, handling disagreements, acting as the final voice in decisions made, and most importantly, rolls the Morton Boulder which will determine the Quest. A Table Master should attempt to be fair and balanced, however to each their own.

A Table Master is chosen through one of these efforts:
- Each member of the Inner Circle rolls a die. Whomever rolls the highest number, becomes the Table Master.
- The members of the Inner Circle draw straws. Whoever gets the short/broken straw, becomes Table Master.
- A simple game of rock-paper-scissors can be played to determine who wins and becomes Table Master.
- Each member of the Inner Circle flips a coin. The coin is called, and in a manner of elimination, the last man

standing after one or multiple coin flips becomes Table Master.

• MORTON BOULDER •
The Morton Boulder is the primary piece to Morton's List, and cannot be used without it. It is a special, 30 sided die used to determine the Quests in Morton's List and Morton's List: Call of the Ancients. Besides very rare instances, only the Table Master may roll the boulder. The Morton Boulder is used to determine the Quest and primary (and sometimes secondary) Manipulations. The Boulder should be charged through one of these methods, each having to do with an element:

- Charging the Boulder through the element of Ether. The Boulder should be passed around between each member of the Inner Circle. Each member should hold it, whether firmly or in a loose fashion, until they feel they have invested enough energy into the Boulder. It should then return to the Table Master.

- Charging the Boulder through the element of Water. The Table Master should drop the boulder in a glass of water. Natural water is preferred, however bottled and tap water will work also. He should leave the Boulder in the water until he feels content that it has been "charged".
- Charging the Boulder through the element of Fire. The Table Master should have a standard lighter in hand. He should hold the lighter (at a slight distance to where the boulder, nor the Table Master's hand, will be burnt) underneath or to the side of the Boulder until he feels content that it has been "charged".
- Charging the Boulder through the element of Earth. The Boulder should be placed on fertile soil. Placing it next to a plant or animal of any type will be ideal, however regular fertile soil will do. The Boulder should be left there until the Table Master feels content that it has been "charged".
- Charging the Boulder through the element of Air. Whenever a storm is raging, heavy or slow rain or snow with wind, possibly thunder, the Boulder should be allowed to sit outside within this storm until the Table Master feels content that it has been "charged".

• CHI •
Unlike the traditional version of Morton's List, Karma is replaced with Chi in the Call of the Ancients version. Instead of acting as the collaborated energy of the entire group, Chi acts as the energy of Morton's List and the quests being undertaken itself. Chi is the hidden energy force which powers Morton's List, and is the acting power behind each Quest undertaken. If the members of the Inner Circle cheat in any way, abandon or fail the Quest given to them and/or ignore the rules, Chi also acts as the hidden force which enacts Karmic law unto the members of the Inner Circle, bringing upon them negative Karma and negative energy as punishment for breaking the rules or cheating during a Morton's List Quest. Chi also, again, acts as the force which powers Morton's List and makes it so special in the first place. Without Chi, Morton's List would be nothing more than a simple board game. Those who abandon the Quest will receive 24 hours of negative karma. Those who cheat or skip rules of any kind, will receive 72 hours of negative karma.

EXAMPLE OF A QUEST:

o-----------------------------------------o
| ~ Olympia ~ |
o-----------------------------------------o
Since the beginning of time, mankind has made it a point to compete with eachother. In our beginnings, simple "games" were played to see who was strongest, most skilled, and/or most intelligent. These "games" however, weren't games at all, as these competitions were taken very seriously. Competitors put their entire heart and soul into these competitions, staking their very honor on the bet that they are the better man. It was the Ancient Greeks who finally made these competitions between men a truly legendary event. There, in southern Greece, the Olympic games were created and played between the best of each Greek city state. This was however, no mere competition, but also viewed as a religious event. Men competed before the Gods in order to prove themselves. The city states brought their best to compete in events and assert their dominance over their rivals. Either way, competition has been a primal battle between men, geared into our very mindsets and basic instincts from birth. The embodiment of this quest, is for the questors of the Inner Circle to partake in some kind of event in which they will be competing with each other. Depending on the Manipulation rolled, which event will be taken. To complete this quest, the members of the Inner Circle must all compete against eachother (however for more elaborate competitions, teams may be formed) in at least one competition event.

activity that requires skill can be used as the test. This can include things like, shooting firearms/pellet guns, firing bow and arrows, playing horseshoes, car/vehicle races, drinking games, any event that tests the Inner Circle's skill.

3) The Test of Blood
Here, the questors must participate in some kind of physical combat competition, such as boxing. Exactly how intense this competition will be is left up to the questors discretion.

4) The Test of Giants
Here, the questors must participate and compete in at least one type of Olympic event or Sports game. Which event is chosen is left up to the Inner Circle's decision.

5) The Test of Luck
Here, the Inner Circle must participate and compete in any type of event/competition that tests their luck. This can be things such as gambling games, or even more simplistic areas of competition, such as coin tosses and card draws.

6) The Test of Will
Here, the Questors must participate in a competition which tests their intelligence. Things such as Chess, complicated math problems, trivia questions, puzzle games, intelligence-based board games, or any kind of activity which tests the Inner Circle's intelligence.

The theater has always been a highlight of many civilizations. In it's beginnings, the theater created and hosted the stage show, stories were created or re-enacted, and then told in front of an awed crowd. "Theatre" is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers to represent the experience of a real or fictional event before a live audience in a specifically styled building made for theatre plays and shows. There were, and always have been many different kinds of theater shows. Actors and performers play on gesture, plays, and music aand dance. In the Renissance era, the theater was defined as a very particular, higher form of entertainment. Men like Shakespeare revolutionized the way the theater shows and plays were put on, and awed generations and entire civilizations of men and women with his theatric brilliance. Modern Western theater takes it's roots from the ancient Greek, who created the "drama" genre of plays. From them, Western theater borrows it's technical terminology, classification of genres, and many of it's themes, plots, and basic elements to which a theater show is carried out. The theater combines theatricality, theatrical language, stage writing, stage acting, and the specificity of the theater as a synonymous expression that draws a line and separates the theater from other forms of entertainment. The theater has highly embodied performing arts, literature, and the arts in general over the years. The embodiment of this quest is for the questors to partake in living arts and entertainment of the theater. Depending on the manipulation, the questors will see a show of some a different variety. The Questors must see at least one show, and stay for the entire show to properly complete this quest.

Please advise, that this will not be ready any time soon. Creating a game like this takes a very long time, and a lot of work, even with a team of a dozen or so people working on it. We would also like to hear your idea for future quests. What would you like to see on this Morton's List?

Reply here, or send an email to .

Anyways guys, I just wanted to let you know what my next project was going to be. For some of you, you're probably thinking "why the fuck are you working on this when the Fallout novel isn't even half way finished?" Well, for some of these projects, I AM getting paid. The Fallout novel is completely free, and even though this version of Morton's List is going to be free, a partial percent of the donations we are getting are going to me. I can hope that you guys understand.

Thanks for your support, and keep a look out for our version of Morton's List!
