Do I need to write "spoilers" here? =)
So back in the day I played a small guns, speech, science charachter with high INT, AGI and pretty high PER ad LUCK. I liked that because I could get the sniper perk, which is very rewarding for me :p. I completed the game with this type of charachter, and when I played it again I was worried that I wouldn't be able to do some of the stuff I could with this build so some of my replays I did with slight variations of the same build (like finesse, sex appeal or bloody mess instead of fast shot).
I recently managed to get myself to play a female, high charisma, high strength and endurance charachter with sex appeal and 3 perception and 4 intelligence. I only put points in unarmed, sneak and lock pick. I quickly discovered what I had missed by going down the same old road, of course. I missed some stuff like not seeing the pip-boy at the vault city computer for example, but got to do a lot more fun things like beat the shit out of Lenny or whatever his name is outside of NCR (the super mutant), knock out the first 3 challengers in New Reno with 1 punch to the head etc etc. I had some trouble fooling people with my useless speech skill, and had real trouble getting in to Navarro the sneaky way for a while. I played that restoration mod so I got to see some new places too.
But what surprised me themost I think was how different the fight with old Frank was. I had Slayer of course so I critted him in various body parts all the time, but he still took so little damage that he managed to run out of ammo for his gun and start wailing on me with that little claw he has. Of course the turrets were the only thing that could kill me with that incredible critical hit for 300hp (I wanted to be the badest badass so I didn't talk to the troopers and didn't manipulate the turrets to really humiliate Horrigan =)). With the gauss rifle or vindicator/bozar he wouldn't last more than 3-4 turns IIRC. I didn't do quite as much damage before that either but I was able to sometimes kill with one punch.
Is this a consequence of the DR mod on ammo, the damage type or what? I never did figure out the DR/AP part of ammo as clearly as I wanted to, and never bothered to search before.
