Bethesda provided yet another set of scans to a magazine that listed Fallout 3 as one of the most anticipated games of 2008, this time it's PC Gamer.

The architecture is pretty good. The second one shows a lot of what is wrong with Fallout 3 (in our opinion).

The magazine also features an article in which Todd Howard explains his particular preference towards blending genres and how you can do anything with RPGs.<blockquote>That's what is so energizing about RPGs; they can be anything. RPGs are the ultimate genre blender; there is no feature you can not at least consider.
(...)
The second [rule; after "great games are played, not made" - ed.] is "Keep it Simple." Polishing up a feature and tucking in all its corners takes more time than your brain thinks it will. The more elegant and simple a system is, the better all the systems will play with each other, yielding heightened player expectations.
The last rule is "Define the Experience." Do not define your games by a list of features; define it by what the player experiences. This allows you to weed out superfluous interactions from the essential ones as you play your game.
It's that last one that creates the genre blending effect. Each part is defined by its interaction and how it makes the player feel. From exploring the world as a whole to talking to NPCs to combat - all these are seperate forms of interaction. For Fallout 3, the list grows to picking locks, laying mines, hacking computers, performing surgery, repairing items, ordering companions, finding radio stations, and more.</blockquote>Fallout 3 is indeed in capable hands. Buy the magazine to read the rest.

Thanks Stag.

It's actually supposed to be one, but I'm retarded.

That picture is weird. It doesn't even make sense as an FPS, and what the hell is up with that mutant? He looks like some sort of bizarre version of Shredder.

EDIT:
Oh, btw, this was listed as number seven in PCG's top eight, though I'm not sure the list was organized in an order signifying level of anticipation or anything of the sort.

honestly? that second pic makes me nearly ready to give up hope. what a crock of sophomoric shit.

Wait, you still have hope? Sir, you are a credit to humanity.

As for the screens (especially the second one), more nails to the coffin.

Nope, I am. Hang on while I fix that.

EDIT: wait, nevermind, I actually split it because otherwise it exceeds our file requirement slightly.

Thank you Brother None for posting this.

What the hell?
The Super Mutants look like freaking muscle bound zombies!

And yes, this is a freaking FPS game.
I don't care how the Bethesda-gusher will try to spin it otherwise.

I can't believe how many "terribly wrong" things they managed to stuff in that second screenshot. It is a masterpiece in itself, really.

Har, actually got my copy of the magazine before scans showed up here, first time that's happened. I gotta say I like the power armor though, the other pictures I've seen of it left me feeling fairly neutral, but this one looks closer to Fallout 1 power armor than it did in the others.

For instance, http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=2450 Blurry to the point where you can't really get a good look at it, and http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=2340 Posing for a trailer and mostly just showing the bust. I was half afraid it wasn't gonna look chunky enough, sort of following Blizzard/WoW's art style of "Everything thin but MASSIVE SHOULDERS OF DEATH". Not quite as fat as FO1 power armor I'd say, but now that I've seen a fairly good quality picture of a full suit in-game I'd say I like it a hell of a lot better than FO:T power armor, and a bit better than Enclave armor.

Also wonder if this means we'll have head slots like Van Buren, or if no-name Brotherhood NPCs will wear helmets, while named NPCs and the PC will be helmet-free to show off faces. Haven't read anything about that yet.

Last time I checked, games don't possess genders...

Then again, I did sleep through most of my High School Health class.

Interesting Freudian slip in my transcribing, I guess.

LOL, I guess it was suppose to be genre blender. ;)
It happens.

If I recall the many times I wrote soldier as 'solider' I would be quite busy.

Dutch Ghost- have you ever accidentally written "soldier" as "solder?" That would be a pretty funny slip-up.

And, more on the actual topic: That second shot looks....just awful. Plus it sort of kills one of the big points of Fallout: that weird mutated monsters like the Centaurs, Supermutants and the Master are bad.... but the worst monsters are standard humans.

And I concur with Stag... that supermutant that's further away looks really awful.

Minus that....sure the game looks pretty, but so what? There are piles of games out there that look great but play horrendously bad. And at this point, if all Bethsoft's doing is upgrading their *ahem* legendary Radiant AI (which is what it seems like is going on) that's all the game's going to have going for it- pretty pretty shiny shiny.

I award Bethesda the perk of Grave Digger - for digging up a franchise that from the looks of should have been left dead.

And, oh yes, the comments. Yikes. Just take your time and disregard everything that are in those squares. Because damn is it all wrong.
