As a site run by volunteers who get no compensation, NMA has never been too fast on the draw on updating the websites, forums and look. We're slowly progressing though, planning a forum update (hopefully soon) and updates to website functionality.

In the meantime though, we have a new front-page design, created by NMA users Wooz and monsharen, with Odin and korindabar doing much of the behind-screen work on the website and forum functionality.

The new re-design is quite a jump from the old so no doubt many will shout foul, but the layout is quite similar, while it is more functional than the old one: it is much smaller and should thus load more easily, the dropdown menus and gallery menu have been improved, social buttons have been added for further integration, and the color scheme and custom fonts should make for superior usability. The header - simply text now - should be rotated in coming years, so you probably will see good old Marcus back in the header at some point.

Nice :) Wish I could say more, but the design is clean. I wonder if the identity NMA had in the old design is lost here?

Kinda miss Marcus at the top, however.
 
The old look was instantly recognizable, familiarly clunky and homely in the good sense.

When I checked the news (the news for the redesign didn't show yet) and saw the new site I kind of jumped - you know that instant instinctive feeling of "OHGOD" you get when you're caught unaware when while browsing completely SFW material you suddenly come up to some particularly screamer/shock site?

That's the feeling I had.

It's servicable and the fallout-y theme is nice. But it's nothing visually stunning - it's more usable than the old look but not an improvement in the aesthetic departament - particularly the colors. THE COLORS!
 
The white background is raping my eyes a bit. It should be a little darker IMO. Looks good though.
 
I think it looks pretty okay. Not the first redesign of NMA that I am living through and it never bothered me. Especially because I am mostly only reading in the forum anyway.

Just hope that the forum redesign will not be a too big change. I got very used to the bright text on dark ground theme around here.

Definitely agree here. It really bites somehow.
Likely because it has such a contrast to the background image. Why not use the color of that as the background instead of white?

I just changed the background of the "#main" in the CSS to #EEEEEE instead of the background image, and it really helped a lot, IMO.
 
For some reason I like this better than the previous layout. I instantly recognized that something had changed when it loaded up, and I like it quite a bit. The old layout is kinda ugly IMO. I think it is the green that throws me off. Nice job dudes! :salute:
 
I liked the old colours a lot more, the new ones made me feel like I had opened a pop-up to some random advert site.

Also, I don't like that the old banner is gone.

I dunno about it's functionality, if it's improve or worsened, I'll have to wait a couple of days for that.

But the redesign from a puretly superficial perspective is awful, at least for me.
Old one felt very... Fallout... Somehow, the new one feels... Well, like some random advert site from accidentally clickin a pop-up.

Though I loathe change with websites in terms of how they look, the colours, the background, the font colours, the logo.
Whenever something big happens I just hate it, never liked a single change I've experienced.


And yeah the white is hurting my eyes, would have preferred yellow/beige officer paper colour. It's more lenient on the eyes.

Found something else to nag about, the comment link for news used to be in the upper right corner and now it's in the lower right corner.
I'm sure I'll grow accustomed to it after some time but I gotta ask, why change it?
I mean, it seems like whenever a forum or site gets updated there is always some unnecessary changes which makes me think they changed it for the sake of changing it, not for the sake of functionality or improved layout.

Like I said, I'll probably grow used to it in a couple of weeks, just seems redundant to change something like that.
 
Nice re-design, but the colour pallette has changed drastically. It might take some time to get used to.

As for the forums, I'd really appreciate if you would keep the same green-on-black combination.
 
I like these forums colors, but those colors on the front page are ok too (it's a big contrast tho, between black forum's bkground and the whiteish one at the start page). I'm sure there will be some more tinkering ahead, but all in all, I like the change.

Have an issue - I can't access gallery as easily as before (by simple click on the picture on the front page).

It will be available as an option even if it won't be our main style.

Yeah, the widgit we used won't link it for some reason. We're working on it.
 
I like that new design. Clean and easy to read. Good job all around.
 
I like it. Complaints about the light background get a partial agreement from me - I don't think it is a big deal, but light text on dark backing makes for easier reading for sure. Overall, very nice. Glad to see something new and fresh here, whether or not it's truly a necessary development.
 
Wow, real shocker. I've been lurking on NMA for years, clicked on it today and boom, really a shock!

The white is a bit much though, just burns my eyes!

It's simple and clean, but it's a shame not to have Marcus there anymore!
 
For the layout, contrast between elements, large condensed type for news, I think they are good choices. While the colors are drastically different, I think I liked the old ones because I was familiar with them; which is a shit reason to be married to it.

Much better "latest image" viewer, I like the added interactivity.

My only professional critique would be to make the header more interesting/contrasting (which you guys mentioned earlier), and have something done to the left side navigation to have it contrast a little from the main news body. My eye seems to wonder between the navigation and the news, it would be swell for something subtle to contain my eye within the news.

Other than that, hot job guys. I like!

Looks a lot nicer!

Even though there are probably things you could do to improve it, it's a good leap forward. When browsing at work, I felt like everyone thought I was reading an old geocities site with the last design.

The all white background on "no mutants allowed" though seemed like it was TOO much white. But good improvement!
 
I honestly never go to the front end of NMA and spend all my time here in the dark underbelly of the forums.

Either way, I like the new look! Good job guys!
