Our kids are fucking pansies.

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2006-06-26-recess-bans_x.htm

I swear seeing things like this makes me mourn for america's kids. Great, no soccer, tetherball, basketball, nothing. God forbid. Sports = pain. Kids can't get hurt, hell no, it goes against every rule of childhood. It's no goddamn wonder people are growing up to be fat, weak, hypersensitive, and lazy. I have to wonder if any of these parents realize that their protective shells are stunting their children in every sense, emotional, physical, and maturative.

I feel sorry for the little bastards, I'd have gone insane in school if it weren't for recess. Don't they understand everything is a learning process to a child? You teach them to learn by teaching them young, you teach them to be active by letting them play, you teach them responisibilty through chores. Our kids are learning nothing anymore, not even in school. After all, you can't progress, damnit, you might leave some other kid behind. No soccer either, that poor fat kid might feel bad when he doesn't get picked first for teams.

America's education system blows. Hard.

exactly, this is truely fucked up. I hate crazy parents who do shit like this to breed equally crazy children...

bwhahaha, ban sports because of minor injuries & inconveniences...

they just want to breed more fat kids, thats all. they're more easily controlled, you see? give em a basement, Tomb Raider on some craptic console, Pussycat Dolls on the TV & you'll never hear from them again (as long as mommy & daddy keep hauling in food & new games that is).

Riiight.... Lemme say it that way:
- I was one of the "fat kids" who was always picked last. Kids get over this.
- I constantly got abrasions and bruises due to my sensory problems. Kids get over this.
- At all three schools I was, we always played soccer on the schoolyard. Nobody was ever involved in a serious accident. We didn't even have a broken nose. Such things happen in PE, not while playing games.
- My sensory deficiency is caused by a genetic malfunction, however, the lack of motorical skills and adroitness in the younger generation, which is often blamed on their recreational activities (you know, to much TV, not enough action an physical exercise) is not. So... almost every sane pediatrist in every first world country advises parents to encourage their children to do some sports or, at least, play outside. Banning classic childhood games on schoolyards isn't really helping here, eh?

Seriously, wtf? If I was a PE or health teacher (or a father...) I'd jump into Ms. Thompson's face, my smooth white ass ahead.

EDIT: hmgrml...somedayi'lllearnhowtowriteproperenglish,goddamnit...

People of America; Let your children run wild and free, because, as the saying goes, let your children run wild and free

This is not good and is going to bite everyone in the ass in the long term. Sometimes I really hate humans.

It's not just a matter of excercize, recess is how kids develop relationships whether they be for good or ill. How would Johnny Mantits know that there's evil in the world without the 5' tall recess bully?

As always, the solution is good parenting. The fact that parents are demanding this shit is depressing, but there is still hope because I'm sure that some objected. Those kids that are coddled and sheltered will grow up to be pansies, and the ones that were exposed to the world and given choices will succeed.

Isnt it ironic that parts of society speed towards increasing risk while others cacoon themselves in false security to the point of slavery?

I mean nowadays we have high school athletes doing steroids in hopes of competing to become like current proffessionals who are twice as strong and large as the athletes of 50 years ago.

On the other hand kids who dont excel are here being encouraged to do even less!

Why not come out and make their point already? Whoever's behind this wants a worldwide caste system of huge, powerful warriors and small, intelligent mages.

WTF?! That gaming reference wasnt even intended.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Heh, the problem isnt with kids, it's with adaults these days... seriously look at the playgrounds these kids get.. everything padded, shaded, soft...

Where the hell are the 12 foot tall sheetmetal and iron tubeing slides i grew up on, the swings over 4 inch gravel..

shit, nothing i grew up playing on had hand rails or saftey guards... shit, even pools didnt have lifeguards half the time.

The parents today coddle their kids.

Oh man, talk about building character and burns. Those slides were fantastic.

Also, hooray for the thirty-foot swings that could launch you halfway across the playground. 8)

And not onto the shredded rubber i see lining new playgrounds.. nope, we either landed on gravel or grass.. and got back up, laughing and did it again...

[...]but banning games such as tag and soccer is a newer development.

"It's happening more," Thompson says. Educators worry about "kids running into one another" and getting hurt, she says.

Bwahahaha

Next on the list to be outlawed: walking on the curb too fast.

this makes me remember my high school days.

last days before winter holidays. physical ed teacher (ex-army, kicked out for striking an officer) says we're gonna do something else than usual: rugby. (we breathed a sigh of relief, because snow usually means heavy physical training, then stripping to boxers & go roll in the snow with that guy (talk about shrinkage!))

now, it had snowed two days before & the snow was still laying there, so that proved to be interesting.

we get to the field, 1.5 miles from the school & notice it really isn't snow anymore. it's turned into icecrystals.

so we play rugby for an hour & return to school. by the time we get back, it's recess & everyone is out on the 'playground'. we run past, everyone looking utterly shocked at us: legs bloodied, arms bloodied, white shirts turned into a mix of green (grass stains) & red (bloodstains).

@ Rhonda Clements: no, none of us became ill after that, not even a cold. none of our wounds even infected. and we had a bloody fucking good time (pardon the pun)...

Bah! No wonder my grandma say kids this day are bunch of wussy, and too soft. And too eh.... is that a word for 'easy broken'? <--- you get my meaning :D

Oh, so this thread isn't actually about... right... moving on.

It may be called "defloration", but it doesn't litterally have anything to do with flowers.

Bwahahahahahaha! Nice catch man!
Back on topic:
It si somehow amazing how America manages to surprise me despite the fact that by now I should be expecting stuff like that and just shrug it away.
I wonder in what kind of fucked up family the people who support this grew up?
When I was a kid things like bruises, cuts and other minor injuries were nothing out of the ordinary. As a matter of fact, getting bruised or cut on an almost daily basis allowed me to learn the basics of first aid (how to clean a bruise, what disinfectant to use, how to make a bandage that doesn't fall off 5 minutes after you put it there). Even the serious injuries didn't keep us down for long; one time me and some friends went to steal some apples from a neighbor's yard and one of my friends fell from the tree and broke his arm. About four days later he was back in action, his hand hanging around his neck and in a cast but he got over it and it healed alright. Kids heal quickly and sometimes better than adults.
Nowadays Kids are glued to the TV and the computer and they miss out on a lot of fun. Sure, they'll get hurt every once in a while but that shit builds character!
