Postworld Mod for Crysis announced

Orderite
A project worth keeping an eye on for Crysis owners, as modders create a Fallout-based total conversion for Crysis.
Postworld is a total conversion mod based on the unique cyberpunk universe of Fallout.

The game will take place during the events of Fallout 1, where players will get a chance to explore the wastes, bash super mutants, abuse ghouls, get high, use an obscene amount of Stimpacks, sleep around, skin raiders, glow in the dark, eat iguanas, read Dean's Electronics books, experiment with explosives, grow mutated appendages, donate reproductive fluids for the benefit of humanity, wear Power Armour suits with in-build urine and excrement disposal system, modify plasma powered weapons, drink questionable liquids and eat even more questionable solids, and generally wreck all kinds of havoc.

Oh, and they will also die from time to time, in rather gruesome animations we might add, but that is just a formality.

-----------------------------------

Here is brief list of features that we are planing to incorporate into the mod:

* SPECIAL Charcter Creation System
* Inventory System
* Quest System complete with reputation and character statistics effects
* Looting System with randomised item drop tables
* Character Skills and Perks System
* Full Turn-Based Combat System
* Fallout style 3rd Person Camera

In addition to the above features we are planning to bring in all of the original content of the game including quests, items, locations, models, talking heads and everything else that made the game great. Although we have tons of ideas for the main quest line we will stick with the original and introduce some of the new ones in side quests.

There are also a number of tools that are currently being developed in-house. These tools are designed to streamline management of existing game content and simplify adding of new content, assets etc. We plan to release these tools together with the mod to allow players to create their own quests, items, tilesets and even whole areas and then seamlessly integrate it all into the main story line of the mod.
Thanks Hellion.

Another project too ambitious to ever see the light of day...

"Yay let's make an entire game from scratch in our spare time..."

Props for trying though and I really wish them to prove me wrong but still...

It would be awesome if they managed to pull it off. Even if they just manage to make a tech-demo or something it would be worth it just to see the vault door open in real time, etc.

So, they want to create Van Buren on Crisis engine? I think they should start with some smaller module.

Not really, they want to recreate the original Fallout in the Crysis engine.
If they actually make it (however unlikely), it will look tons better than Van Buren, and I sure hope they do.

Hm, I still prefer the old 2D Graphics to this shiny-polished 3D Look. But still nice, if they manage to complete this.

They just have to make it a lot rustier...
I guess that is Vault 13

Re: Fallout Rebirth Mod for Crysis announced

If you don't know the first Fallout 3 or just don't like the twelve year old graphics...

This actually made me laugh.

I can totally understand the scepticism that people might develop towards this project. This is super ambitious and these guys are going to need to bust their asses off to keep this rolling in an acceptable pace and also, recruit *a lot* more people! Only 3 guys at the moment :/
And even if does get to see the light of day, recreating the mechanics and systems that worked so well in the original fallouts will take a lot of talent and experience from the coders. It might look nice, but if it wouldn't play like originals, well, it'll miss a big chunk of the point.

But you know what? From what I've read, these guys seem pretty enthusiastic about their goal. They seem to have an honest fondness for old school PC RPG's and from I've seen that they've already released (the HUD in particular), they appear to be passionate to stay close to the source material.

I'll gladly keep on eye on this and keep my fingers crossed. I might need to tape them together as this is going to take *forever* to complete.

Oh. The "original Fallout 3" thing has confused me.

Frankly, it looks pretty pointless to me, unless they are going to add expanded moddability and much better game mechanics.

Yes, that was a fail by BrotherNone, he just quoted the "pcgameshardware" crapnews. That was pretty risky BrotherNone :wink:
PCGH is famous for writing a lot of shit.

Here is the real news:

Fallout: Rebirth is a total conversion mod based on the unique cyberpunk universe of Fallout.

I quoted what was given to me. Fixed.

I am quite proud of having achieved "a fail" though.

Don't take it too serious, we all make mistakes from time to time. :mrgreen:

I think it's the third or maybe fourth "Crysis Fallout Mod".
I doubt they'll make it far, but I like the idea and want to see more.
The Cryengine has some great potential. Id like to see some good RPGs be made with it, which is sadly damn unlikely.
Something like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines or Fallout would be extreme.

What's with all the negativity?

Sure, it's a very risky project, but let's have a little more faith people! It sounds good, it sounds promising. All we have to do is wait and see. If they fail, then everyone is nice and free to bash everything behind this rebirth. But until then let's just hope they create a good Fallout game. Because, frankly, modders are the only people now, that will make one.

It would be neat if the work they make can also be used to create new material; campaigns, locations etc.

Guess I should contact these people.
