I am wondering if there is a bug with the quartermaster because he never gives me good value for my weapons. Etc. 10 AK-47's and he offers me 500 bucks!!. My cha. and batter stats are average.

The game works in this way - Each time u sell smthing to the QM, if it is not available in the QM stock then u would get a higher price for it but as u sell more and more back to the QM and his stock of the same thing increase, the money he would be giving u decreases. i had about 56 ak sold to the QM! I would be getting like few dollars for 1 ak when 26 ak was already sold to the QM.

Ya, I only sell crappy stuffs, like the 9mm pistol, and save other better guns, until the point in game you no longer find that gun at all, then you sell'em all.

But why bother ? starting at bunker gamma (3), you can gamble with the quarter master for ALL of his stuffs

Saving your guns and selling them later doesn't have any affect. The game calculates each one seperately when you sell it as if he already had one, so you still get say $1000 for the first one and dip down to some rediculously low ammount like $4 for the last one. Also between missions the quartermaster sometimes gets rid of some of the "supplies" you sold him so if you sell your stuff immediately you can get more than you would have selling it all later because his buying price will go up again. Your best bet is to trade directly with the people you want things from, so if you want meds trade with the medical officer, etc... I agree with Whatsoever though, I gambled from the quartermaster at gamma for everything he had then sold it back, tada 160,000 scrip...

Stumpy is a money maker!

Okay what I did to get even was, I took Stumpy as a character!

He has a really high Gambling skill. When you hit any town, if you come across a character that will let you gamble, you can really take their stuff! Medics, mechanics and Quartermasters may or may not gamble with you. If they will, Stumpy's high Gambling skill will get you all the stuff you need!

The Quartermaster at Gamma Base (I think it's gamma), will gamble anything in inventory. The thing about inventory, is that it's the same for all the quartermasters, so as soon as you get further on than Delta, head back to that particular gambling Quartermaster to take his stuff!

The trick is to put your side as being greater than the quartermaster's side. You can gamble with anything... cash, supplies...

The only downfall is with anyone you gamble against - if you win too often, they will hold off for better odds (ie: you put your side much lower than theirs).

To combat this, hold out until the quartermaster has a BOATLOAD of goodies you want - don't gamble him until he has everything you want. Then gamble against him for all of it (and sell it back to him)! The more stuff you can gamble for, the better. Each time you win or lose, the quartermaster wants you to set your side with less and less, so he can win.

I must have won over 200,000$ or more with stumpy. Plus, when you get to the level with the robot parts, most of the guys will gamble with you, instead of ring pulls, making Stumpy a very important squad member.

He can also sneak up on people and leave explosive behind them! That is fun. :)

RE: Stumpy is a money maker!

ya.. I'm currently at the point where the quartermaster won't gamble with me unless it's at least at the ratio of 3:5 .. and I've reloaded 5 times and he wins everytime with this odd, think I heard it somewhere I have to let him win something and then begin winning it back.. or trade something.. is that right ?

RE: Stumpy is a money maker!

The game seems to have an almost set win/loss timer. So if you keep reloading and loosing, just loose something small, then you can go back to winning. Personally I think stealing is far more important than gambling, you can get books and stuff you would never be able to get gambling, and you can steal from the medical officer and any merchant besides the quartermaster. Just bring stumpy out when you want to gamble with the quartermaster. Another thing to do if you are low on money and don't want to use such underhanded tricks as stealing and gambling is to wander the waste and encounter humanoids, they always have something you can sell...

RE: Stumpy is a money maker!

there's babs the ghoul for all my stealing needs :)
gambling, I'll try to lose some small then win something other back.. heh

RE: Stumpy is a money maker!

I made my main caracter strong on stealing traps and energy weapons, he was pretty useless for a while but now that he's off stealing power armor and wasting bots it's all good.

Need help with gambling

Currently the QM won't gamble unless the odds on the goods is 2:3, which he wins everytime, if I play with similar odds he would say "hmm.. I don't think so"

I've tried to lose to him stuffs worth about 20k, but even after that he wouldn't lower his odds..
Is he raising his own gambling skills, or is it just that at 2:3 odd no one can ever win ? I've taken stumpy out for a mission and raised his gambling another 12%, but still doesn't help..

anyone know how to overcome this ?
