I've been playing FPS since 1991 and it's the first FPS that actually made me nauseous.

Somewhat alarming really. Maybe I'm getting old.

But more likely it's the hideous disproportion between FOV, player movement speed vs level sizes, and framerate jerking.

The game seems like a throwaway coding effort, and it has less visual coherency than original ROTT.

IMO a ROTT remake should be more colorful as opposed to quasi-realism, and enemies/powerups should stand out better against the walls.

yea, i havent really tried playing it, but what i have played, i was really not impressed.

it does seem to have lost a lot of what the original had.

plus you can "fall through" the elevators...

It's a technical mess by the same naïve mod team responsible for the abandoned Duke Nukem 3D "Reloaded" remake. The lead guy, Frederik Schreiber, is a mini-me version of Randy Pitchford. I do like how they plan on releasing a strong SDK. Unfortunately, by the time it's public most people will have lost interest because of the horrible state the game is currently in.

I really tried to get into this game and I dunno, something is missing.

It seems a lot of these old school shooter revivals are made to try and play on nostalgia, instead of actually being a typical early 90's shooter. No matter how much they try, a few modern tropes make it into the game and utterly spoil it.

Level design is still linear. They claimed the levels would be open, but I'm not seeing it. It feels like a straight connection of walled arenas set up to try and seem non linear, but you still have to find that door, trip that switch, that gives you access to the next arena in a linear fashion.

Seems I'm better off still playing Brutal Doom with megawads, still. A shame, really.
