Shattered Wasteland OOC

FOvet

Wandering the Wastelands
This is the OOC for Shattered Wasteland, my first attempt at an RP of my own. It takes place mere months after Fallout 2; and there is no specific storyline--it is whatever we make it as we go along. It's a story about people, about survival, about trying to stay alive in an environment where you are lucky to see your 20th birthday. Note that my character is a traveling merchant, trying to get enough money to afford a brahmin cart; she will be starting off 3 days journey from Broken Hills, north of the town.

I hope you guys join this RP, and enjoy my attempt to simulate a FOish open world. This RP will be whatever we make it--and remember, this is a few months AFTER FO2, so some of the canon events will not yet have happened. Who knows, maybe we will end up participating in some of them, such as the siege of Navarro. One never can tell ;)

Here is the character sheet I would like people to follow:

S-5

Here is my character idea and his owner. The owner is only played if he's needed.

Name: Drudge (name given by his master)
Age: 12
Sex: male
Race: native american
Appearance: long tangled black hair reaching down to the middle of his back; brown eyes; dark tan with the reddish complexion of his race; very skinny with clearly defined ribs; dirty; scars from old punishments and a few fights with wild animals; branded with his masters sign, a big radscorpion, on his left breast and right shoulder; wears a small primitive loincloth made from two ragged and soiled pieces of sackcloth hanging from an old rough rope around his waist; a thick heavy collar made of blackened iron is welded around his neck with a thick ring hanging from the front
Weapons: his masters old scoped hunting rifle, looks like a piece of junk with some crude repairs but working quite well; an old but sharp knife bound on the outside of his right lower leg
Items: threadbare rectangular bag strapped to his left upper leg, usually contains some rope, munition and a few other things needed for hunting
SPECIAL(optional): ---
Bio:
Until he was about five years old the boy lived with his grandfather because his mother died shortly after his birth and his father was a hunter and away for weeks. His grandfather taught the boy as much as he could about his people and how to survive in the wilderness. As the old grandfather got ill and felt that he would not live much longer it was decided that the boy would stay with his father. It was a few weeks before his fifth birthday. At first it was hard for the boy but he learned how to hunt and to survive in the wastelands.
About three years ago a little settlement hired the boys father to get rid of a group of geckos who caused a lot of damage. Because of a sprained ankle the boy stayed behind in the local inn as his father went to hunt the geckos. He never returned and after two week and ongoing gecko raids everyone was sure the man had been killed. The boy had no way to pay for his stay and as another guest suggested to buy the orphan for twice the amount of the boys debt the boys future was settled. The guest was an old man named Scorpio wo had a crippled leg. He gave everything the boy owned to the innkeeper including the cloths he wore. He had the boy collared and branded and told him to forget his old life and name and to answer only to his new name Drudge. It took a while but finally the boy accepted his new degrading name and really forgot his real name.
Scorpio was a cruel master and Drudge was badly treated. Three times Drudge tried to run away but always he was caught and brought back to Scorpio. His brutal punishment got worse every time and the third time he barely survived. Scorpio threatened to kill Drudge in the most horrible ways the next time and Drudge was sure the man would do that. Never again he tried to run.
They moved a lot around. Drudge never learned why but he got the impression that Scorpio was on the run. After a couple of month they arrived in Broken Hills and Scorpio moved into a ruined building. Only one room was still usable. Drudge had to clean the room and to make it liveable for Scorpio but was not allowed to sleep in it. He had to make do with the patio or crawl under it if the weather was very bad.
Drudge was hired out to the people in Broken Hills for all sorts of nasty jobs. As long as Drudge wasn't permanently damaged Scorpio didn't care how he was treated. For him Drudge was nothing but a low beast of burden. After he was sure Drudge had accepted his slavery he sent the boy out to hunt. That provided food and money for the furs and skinnys of the animals.

The owner of Drudge:
Name: Scorpio
Age: 48 (looks a lot older)
Sex: male
Race: human
Appearance: Stringy grey hair with a bald patch on the top of his head; a grey unkempt full beard; cruel green eyes; tanned wrinkled skin; wears comfortable brahmin skin cloths and leather boots with braces on his injured leg
Weapons: a pair of plasma pistols and a cruel whip
Items: 3 stimpacks; pain medication; walking stick with saber hidden in it
SPECIAL(optional): ---
Bio:
Scorpio did a lot of things in his past but no one knows for sure. Not everything of it was legal and that's the reason he's hiding in Broken Hills. He barely escaped the first time and got a nasty shot into his leg that left him permanently crippled. He can only limb and every step with the injured leg causes pain. He was never a nice person but the injury and pain made him bitter and even more cruel than he was before.
He was on the run as he learned about the drama with the hunter and his brat. Using his skill in manipulating others he was able to make the boy his slave. His work provided Scorpio with a way to survive with some style and his body was the perfect helpless victim for the mans anger and cruelty. Making the boy suffer somehow made Scorpio feel better about his own situation.

Accepted, as we discussed in PM. You are free to post, Biest--thanks for joining :D

YO FOVET! I'll join so I'll use this character. It's a small world after all. ;)

Another Character for Rping. Related to my other; Chameleon in some way. He's actually used in other RPs and my novels/comics etc though he is altered for this RP.

Name: Deathhead
Real Name: Angelo Damien
Age: Unkown (Possibly same age as Chameleon)
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Occupation: Mercenary, bodyguard, assassin.
Allignment: Neutral
Hair colour: Blonde
Eye colour: Golden (Unusual)
Height: 6"1
Nationality: Finnish Caucasian
Voice: Deep mysterious voice (think of one of those really cheesy cool villains off an anime or cartoon)

Appearance: Wears a black pointed hood and cape. A white mask in the shape of a skull covers his face, leaving only eyes visible (Like a grim reaper). Wears a black recon suit with white streaks to represent bones. Wears a black tunic around waist which reaches to ankles. Wears slver boots and pointed greaves. Wears silver gloves and gauntlets reaching to elbows. Also has a utility belt.

Personality: Apparently devoid of conciense, he cares little for trivial matters and wishes only to get the job done. Accepts most missions, but doesn't kill unless for money. He hates having people waste his time and any who get in his way he will normally knock unconcious unless their death is necessary. He has some soft spot for animals, but feels no apparent compassion for children or women. Dislikes Chameleon. A grumpy typeof guy who will make humour when he feels it is appropriate and talks when he wants to.

Abilities: Mastered martial artist and swordsman. Has the unique ability of mimicing physical abilities with 50/50 success. If he fails, he normally faints. This mimic ability has allowed him to mimic the world's best martial artists and swordsmen, from NCR, BOS, China and etc. He is also an excellent strategist. Precise Marksmansip.

Weapons: Steel sword with his trademark logo; a skull. Magnum 45. Carbine rifle.

Best traits: High intellect, physical prowess, good sneak etc. Bad at speech and charm. No good at explosives or any other type except melee and sngle-shot weapons. Doesn't like computers despite his intelligence.

Bio: Not much is known, but he was related to Chameleon's history and memories (big time) ad therefore stands as an annoyance. Even though he can remember everything, he dares not tell Chameleon. He began as a small-time merchant before becoming a soldier. He undergoed some strange experiment similar to Chameleon (Hence his strange mimic abilities) but did not got go insane. He gives little else on the matter except that he desires to be better than his acclaimed rival. He was born Angelo Damien and has forever kept the name. He became a scientist at one point (after mimicing the lab abilities of a fellow) though it is unknown for what purpose or faction. He then decided to become a free-lance mercenary under the name Deathhead (Which was an old name given by the army and kept with him). It is not hard to see why as his precise marksmanship normally lets him pop a head off his unrivalled killing ability. The only problem as given by many clients is his lack of will to kill without money; therefore he must be paid in advance to kill any other than the target. He is highly sought after but his high price makes him tough to get. However, while he is best put as a merc leader or assassin/bodyguard; he is not put up for other tasks. His vast knowledge of life and the world itself also gets him paid for his info. Some even say he was sent by Death himself to give the world a whole new meaning, but a merc no less.

Character accepted; Drudge and Kira are on their way towards Broken Hills, so you might want to appear somewhere close by. Welcome, and glad you joined :D

Hmm, a fresh story? That sounds like it could suit my purposes just dandy! It's about time I joined in the Fallout Role Playing... It may not be DND, it may not be PNP, hell it's not even strictly fan fiction! But it's kinda enough of em all that I'd like to tag along, if that's cool.

Although *months* after FO2 might mean I'll need to tweak some of my character designs, for the time being, I think it works..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Rip
Age: Rumored to be Pre-War born.
Sex: Male.... maybe.
Race: Human or Ghoul; doesn't have the build to be anything else.
Appearance: No one really knows what HE looks like. He never strips to anything less than his full combat armor, but he prefers his coats, scarves, and many additional layers of concealment.
Weapon(s): He keeps no less than 5 different kinds of knives/shivs on his person at all times. Razor blades, combat knives, rusty cleavers... screw drivers? You name it, he's holding it... somewhere.
Items: He's been self-sufficient, but he may be running out of his food reserves. He reuses much of what he can, so he usually has empty bottles tucked away. He effectively holds the materials of 1 First Aid Kit.
SPECIAL
ST 5
PE 7
EN 8
CH 6
IN 8
AG 6
LK 7
Traits: Gifted, Night Person
Skills: (Tagged) Melee, Sneak, Outdoorsman; (secondaries) Speech, Repair, Science
Bio: A Mercenary by trade, Rip is an enigma shrouded in legend. He's not particularly tall, only a moderate 5'6", and he doesn't look particularly imposing (if you look past the armor he's always wearing), but those few who've worked with him state that when he speaks, they LISTEN. Whatever he does, it's always with a purpose, and where he goes people either follow or get out of his way. Not many have stayed with him for very long, a few fellow mercs from time to time, but he's done enough jobs to earn quite a reputation over the years. None know where he comes from, or even when. Some say he's a ghoul that survived the Great War. Others that he's a mythical avatar of some of the local, superstitious tribes. Some even believe he's a robot from some forsaken Vault to the Northeast of California/Nevada. Yet others allege that he's nothing more than a normal, if gifted human being, perhaps with military training from the Brotherhood, Enclave, or maybe even NCR. Only he really knows, and he doesn't open up much about it. He IS a fiendish drinker, so the stories about what he's done to bars... or their patrons ...are all definitely truth.
In his younger days, he was much more bold and outspoken. But few of his peers or superiors ever liked to listen to him. If he wasn't being condescending he was pedantic, and they always found that irritating. Nevertheless he'd always end up being right, and when the world around him started falling apart, gloating about it would never have done him any good (not that he really wanted to). So he just moved on, and kept living. Eventually, his pragmatism (borderline cynicism) outgrew his desire for true companionship, so over the years his honed his craft and made the best use of his skills that he could. Any job with a decent pay, so long as it didn't cross his personal code, and he would take it. But somewhere, deep inside, where no one can see it, he hides a desire to once again have that thing he lost so many years earlier... a family.
I know it's the OOC thread where I should lay all the details, but the author in me wants some of his background details to naturally shock and please as they're revealed... I DO have the full story in my head though, so it's not that I'm making up anything as I go along. Hopefully that's acceptable?
I drew some inspiration for Rip's personality from a variety of characters; his fondness for small knives both from my own disdain towards firearms as well as my fascination with Heath Ledgers depiction of The Joker, and I also took some characterization from Tom Hardy's role as Forrest Bondurant (This summer's "Lawless"), even Eiichiro Oda's Edward Newgate! Yeah, I'm a bit of a movie buff, so I just used what I liked/admired about certain characters, blended them with a couple of my own characteristics (like the love of drink), and here we have it... Rip.
Yeah, I just haven't had a lot of time to check it out yet; I think I will by Monday, thanks for the link :)
OHHH there it is. Accepted, and I'm sure you can see we are still outside Broken Hills, so you may want to 'appear' close by for interaction. Can't wait to RP with you, snap :D
Well, for all intents and purposes, it would make the most sense if he was IN Broken Hills (the bar, specifically), but judging by the backgrounds of some characters, I have to ask for clarification: Will your group be going TO the town, or away from it? Just important to know if Rip is going to mosey on out of town, or just sit around and wait for "trouble" to find him.
I can't speak for Rip, but Kira, Iggy, and Drudge are headed into town to have a little talk with Scorpio; then, if all goes well, she will head out again.
BTW, I am all for anything anyone wants to throw in. I'm GM in the sence that I created the thread, but we are ALL GMs, so feel free to make your own plot twists, make shit attack us, make something happen, whatever--just don't control another PC without permission. That said, I should add that if 4 days passes without a person posting, that person who didn't post will have their character 'react' in an appropriate matter to the situation. I won't kill them off, but I won't wait around for weeks if someone drops out either.
Hah. I've had entire CAMPAIGNS of DND go by without me being able to join my group. Basically I was busy for months on end and couldn't make the drive 20 miles to our host's place, so they played on without me. I'm told my wizard would always bump into walls like a vegetable, while I was away! XD
But alright, sounds like Rip will be staying in town for a little while... =)
About Deathheads first post:
I have no problem with the way Scorpios name was used there.
To avoid complications I just want to point out that Scorpio wouldn't send someone out to get Drudge at that moment and surely he wouldn't want him kill if there was a way to get the boy back alive. If he wanted the boy dead he'd prefer to do it by himself in a slow painful way. ;)
At the moment Scorpio might be angry it takes so long but he wouldn't be worried for a couple more days. Drudge went out to hunt before and was gone for days too. The boy knew better than to come back empty handed.
As far as I see it the one who approached Deathhead might have had an open account with Scorpio and tried to get even by hurting his little slave. Using someone else would be a good way to avoid Scorpios revenge. ;)
Yeah I was going to try to ask permission and I just assumed what Scorpio might be like. I din't want to directly use your guy so sorry about that ;/ Well, the guy could've been a scam for all you know anyway :)
Did something happen this weekend? If the middle of the week had started, I might think it normal, but suddenly NO ONE is around saying anything over the weekend. Not in the regular boards, not the various Fallout boards, nor even the Role Play boards... It's leaving me wondering what's up... @_@
I'm guessing the story (for the time being, at least) hinges on FOvet's presence? A couple characters certainly are waiting on her, or her little group, before they "make their next move"...
And since I didn't feel "ready" to make a new post, I was just gonna make this little notation here, instead. Remember, at the current time, and the place everyone's all at, "caps" are not the standard unit of currency. It's NCR coin, so it's either "coin" or "dollars" or something along those lines. But not caps. Just for future reference (I caught myself trying to use "caps" before I finished my entry, too). =)
Also, FOvet, is your first post (here) partially deleted, or something? Shortly after you give the "format" for character sheets and in the middle of your own (after specifying you were giving *two* characters) it cuts off at the start of Kira's SPECIAL stats. That was nagging me for a while...
I don't know if something happened. Besides saturday afternoon and night (did some PnP Roleplaying) I was online but doing other things. I waited for FOvet or someone else in the other game.
At the moment I'd guess FOvet was busy this weekend and hope for post tonight. ;)
About the character description of Kira it had been that way all the time. ;)
I wouldn't see any reason why not. Though FOvet seems to be out on some personal business, and she approves the characters, so you may not get an immediate reply regarding the status of your character.
