Should I get MGSV?

Brahmin Noodles

Still Mildly Glowing
Hey guys, I'm considering getting MGSV during the next Steam sale, and I wanted to ask anyone who's played it what they think. From footage I've watched the gameplay looks great, but I've also heard the story is rather sub-par, especially for a MGS game. Anyway, what are your guy's thoughts? Would you say it's worth picking up?

The gameplay more than makes up for the lackluster story. It's so fun that I have no regrets buying it at $60, so you should definitely pick it up during a Steam sale.

Game's great, the gameplay does eventually become repetitive but if it does then you can just change your tactics and suddenly it's a whole new game. Good OST as well, along with a solid collection of 80's pop and rock music.

Yes, I do recommend it.
I'm one of the few people who enjoyed the story, but I felt it was stretched out too long with too many "Filler" missions.
I think Super Bunnyhop summed it up when he said "It feels like a very good 12 hour game stretched out to 60 hours."
Which is a shame, maybe Kojima got a bit too indulgent but that's an issue I have with his game.
Gameplay wise, it's one of the very few Open World games to get the nature of gameplay right.
It's really a sandbox stealth action game more than anything.
So yes, I do agree, it's a must have.
There's enough there for people who aren't fans of the series to enjoy, and those who are fans pretty much get rewarded for it.
Out of the two games I bought on launch (and pre-ordered, mostly for their special editions), this was the better of the two (the other being Fallout 4, what a joyous £100 that could have been better spent on food).

I think if you a fan of the series then the lack of story will be seen as a flaw to very disappointing depending on how invested you are in Hideo's militaristic anime nonsense.

If you not a fan you won't care either way.

However the game has some of the best sandbox gameplay I've ever seen once you adjust to the control scheme, its worth the pricetag for that alone.
