It Wandered In From the Wastes

Alright my dudes, I had recently gotten Shovel Knight (bout fucking time) and decided to play through it, oh my fucking god am I glad I did. The game mixes the fun and nostalgia of the NES days but doesn't have to rely on your nostalgia for it to be fun. As someone who played the NES as a kid, but didn't really grow up with it per say, I can without a doubt say that this game is a fun game and Nostalgia doesn't affect that at all.
It has a great intro level that has you going back to the olden days of gaming, simple days where you don't have to learn all the controls and go through bullshit like (inverted or nah) (southpaw or nah) (toggle crouch or nah), it doesn't teach you the controls, but it does, in the simple ways of trying and succeeding different buttons or different tactics which ends up making the game exponentially funner. As you go through the intro level you learn the controls and face your rival Black Knight. During the whole level the music makes you feel like the epic adventurer that you are and gets you hyped for the game.
By the way let me talk about the great music of this game. It is so fucking great honestly. There's not a single track in the entire game that I do not enjoy. All of the tracks fit the situation or level they are played in and again make your adventure as Shovel Knight so much more...adventurey.
But back to the game itself, the levels are very well thought it and whoever at Yacht Club Games designed these levels is a level design master. There are multiple secret areas with music sheets or relics or maybe just a big ol chest full of gold. It makes your adventure as Shovel Knight feel even more like an Adventure! It also deals with player's skill increasing very well with the map screen, combining the great ideas of the bosses/levels with the game map of Mario 3. Instead of facing the same problems as Megaman (all bosses/levels are equally hard) it utilizes the map screen to give you choices of bosses and levels who are all the same difficulty, it does this with locked gates and a sort of "fog of war" I guess. (Spectre Knight & King Knight: Easy, Plague Knight, Mole Knight, and Treasure Knight: Medium, Tinker Knight, Polar Knight, and the evil son of a bitch Propeller Knight: Hard)
All levels are thought out and the game tells a story without having to utilize 30 minute long cutscenes that look like a damn movie, the story of Shovel Knight is an epic tale of Shovelry.
Also, the free expansion DLC "Plague of Shadows" is an equally great story if not, (in my opinion), a better one, it expands on the levels and adds a whole new story and gameplay experience. I cannot wait for the King Knight and more importantly the Specter Knight DLC in Spring and when they come out you can believe I will play the fucking hell out of them.
Overall Shovel Knight 10/10
Plague of Shadows 9/10
lemme know if I should do more reviews on games or nah guys
