Hey, just thought I'd share the URL to this USA government site that has a bunch of good MPEG movies of nukes.

http://www.nv.doe.gov/news&pubs/photos&films/testfilms.htm

If anyone else has any sites with MPEGs/Movies of nuclear blast, please tell me.

Well,

I'm *NOT* obsessed with nukes. However, I am obsessed with power armor (not from Fallout, but actual schematics for it). I find it very intriguing because of the amount of instruments and gadgets involved.

Anyone else fascinated by power armor?

Gadgets? All that makes up a Power Armor suit is servos, a nice helmet, pressure pads and air filters, etc. Plus think how unmanagable they'd be? First you can't really tell if you're gripping something, second, their bulkiness makes you an easy target, third and most important: how would you itch yourself. Man that would kill!

Plus, there's a certain majesty and awe associated with the power that goes into a nuclear blast.

Power Armor.. um.. well.. wow..

You're talking about crap power armor...

REAL power armor is much thicker and has pressure pads on the fingers. It also has a polymer outer layer (like that stuff they use to make bullet proof class, it bends and absorbs most of the shock). Plus it has an intergrated heating system, air conditioning system, air filters (like you said), a vioce activated computer display (navigational system) and a nuclear reactor sticking out the back.

Now what do you have to say to that? Still haven't got over the itching problem yet though.

HEV = Hybrid Electrical Vehicle (or am I mistaken Shadowman?).

Currently the only HEVs around are electrical cars.

Why power armor doesn't exist:

#1) Nuclear reactors, with power enough to run a suit of power armor, haven't been miniaturized enough to be small enough, both in weight and in size to carry on a suit of power armor. No, you cannot use a store of plutonium to generate electricity because plutonium doesn't produce enough power.

#2) There is just no use, as of now, for them. What would be gained by giving a single personel such expensive hardware when the real battle is not between people, but with the large machines of war? Maybe for SWAT operations, but SWAT teams need to be agile, not clunky and big.

#3) The simply don't exist anywhere but in fantasy/sci-fi games.

Don't worry, I'm not gonna say "solar cells" because that would be stupid. Anyway, there is a petrol generator which can be shrunk to a fairly small size. Maybe about 2ft^3. Or there could be multiple lead acid accumulator batteries which maight power everything if you're lucky.

I would use one for my Mob which I will run when I graduate. Then I will control everything! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

No one has invested in trying to build a prototype. Thats why they don't exist in real life. However, there are exoskeletons and walkers available.

What? For a whole five minutes WITHOUT moving?

I'll just get out my Barrett Model 82A1 sniper rifle and kill the people instantly with its .50 Browning round.

Thats a BIG exaggeration! 5 mins WITH moving ;)

Never heard of an 82A1, or .50 calibre Browning round.

Actually, there are some really powerful exoskeletons out there. But anyway they used air muscles, which are pretty neat. Have you ever come across one?

Actually

I was talking about the Hazardous EnVironment suit from half-life. It has a lot in common with powerarmour.

Let's just say it would go through your power armor, through the wall behind it, and probably out your house too. One of those "5-mile" rounds if you know what I mean.

Is it possibly a rhino bullet? Or something much more devistating? What material is the bullet made out of and then I should be able to guess what the gun is like.

No, Rhino bullets don't have penetrating power. They're designed to hit their target and blow out a chunk of flesh the size of your fist.

The 0.50 caliber Browning round is used in extremely high-powered sniper rifles, used for immobilizing tanks and such. The Barrett 82A1, I believe, was used to take out SCUD missile sites during the Persian Gulf war.

Meant to imply that the "joke" was so lame I had to add my own sound effects to it.
