Fallout 2 mod Some resolution issues with FO2 and sfall

Question2

It Wandered In From the Wastes
At first, i tried setting the game up to run in borderless windowed, but it seems to force the game to run at my desktop resolution and the game was obviously not designed for modern wide screen resolutions. The result is that it looks really weird when its stretched out in wide screen.

Is there a way to run in borderless windowed, but without it being wide screen? So it would be stretched to fill the screen with black bars at the side for a standard aspect ratio.

The second issue is that i tried running in mode 4 (dx9 full screen) under sfall, and i set it up to use 800x600 resolution with 2x scaling. It looks fine, but it has issues with alt-tabbing. When i alt-tab, it seems to force my browsers to be resized into 800x600 and i have to resize them again. Is there a way to avoid this from happening?

And the most annoying thing is that when i alt-tab if there is a menu active, for example a dialog window, i just get a black screen when i try to alt-tab back into the game. Hitting esc or other hotkeys does nothing and it just remains a permanent black screen and i have to use the task manager to close the program. Is there a way to avoid this from happening?

Just change the screen resolution to something that is more fitting to your monitor?

If you are running in window mode, you should also be able to drag the borders to whatever size you want.

Yes, don't alt+tab when in dialog.

Yes, don't alt+tab when in dialog.

I dont think you understand, im asking if there is a way to run fallout 2 in borderless windowed but using a standard aspect ratio rather than the wide screen aspect ratio.

So are you saying that the game crashes for you too when you alt-tab in dialog?

The game doesn't crash on alt+tab, the screen is just black and doesn't refresh. If you managed to somehow get out of the dialog, all is fine (most of the time you probably won't manage that though). So the most simple solution would be to simply not alt+tab out of the game when in a dialog screen.

About the resolution:
I do indeed not understand the problem, because I have no issues with playing Fallout 2 in a window with a non-widescreen resolution.
/Edit: No idea if there is a borderless window mode.

Are you running it in sfall mode 6, which is borderless windowed? Borderless windowed is not the same as windowed.

if you are running it in mode 6, what settings do you use to achieve the standard aspect ratio?

I see. 6 is fullscreen windowed. I'm guessing it simply always stretches to fullscreen and no non-widescreen is possible in that case.

Why not just set a widescreen resolution and be done with it? The game looks good in 1280x760px ... haven't used anything else in years.

In this video I discuss how to set the Hi-Res mod:

And in this next one I talk about combining the sfall settings with the Hi-Res mod settings to make visuals look nicer:

Let us know if we were able to help :)
