Spiritual successor to Fallout?

There is mysterious hint from a 1Up Yours podcast nearly two weeks ago. Garnett Lee, Managing Editor of 1Up, said the following in a conversation about Bethesda's Fallout 3, at the 80:50 mark:
I think we are going to see a spiritual successor to Fallout One and Two from the guy who originally did Wasteland, and I'm just going to leave it at that.
It seems likely that Garnett is referring to Brian Fargo, founder of Interplay and current CEO of InXile. In an interesting wrinkle, Fargo also owns the rights to Wasteland, which Fallout was partially a spiritual successor to.

Thank to CStalin for this news.

Well perhapse its better this way. Now that Bethesda ruined the fallout name, by making mainstream junk, logic demands we go back to our roots. Lets hope we can see a bright mutant infested, nuclear polluted, brotherhood ruled future for Post Apo ISo-TB games :)

NOW we have something to really look forward to. But I still have this sinking feeling.... I hope this doesn't end up on as just a 'test demo' in a video somewhere on youtube :(

After the new Bard's Tale I can not see what the fuss is about. Really, go play it, and then comment this newsbit.

Ironically, Fallout is the spiritual successor of Wasteland...
To think Wasteland 2 (if!) is the spiritual successor of Fallout series...

Such is fate... :?

i've had hope and despair so many times now, that i really don't know what to think of this.

Its possible but lets remain optimistic, else we might aswell stop all together or have our forum start a RPGMAKER XP project!(please nobody even think about it!)

Maybe because we make alot of noise, Fargo might give us what we want. Its not like he has anything to lose right. Right?

I for one think that games are not the result of any 1 person involved, be it Tim Cain, Brian Fargo or Todd Howard, but the result of a group of individuals.

So, in my opinion, Fallout was the result of "The Team" known as Black Isle Studios. I always thought I actually miss them more than any of their past games....

Off topic: all this talk about post apoc games, movies, retro future, did you ever wonder (like me) why this genre never took off? There are hundreds of projects out there but they either dissapear into thin air, get canned or just fail miserably...is it such a difficult theme to implement?

Get your facts straight. The first Fallout was created before Black Isle Studios came into being.

"Next gen action adventure game" :?

then it can´t be a spiritual successor to fallout. the genre in itself is mass-media crap.

And things will have come full circle.
