Stalker Clear Sky?

I recently bought STALKER on Steam because of the good price, because I've got a new PC and had heard a lot about it. Nearing the end of the game (I have to add that it's a very good game, despite a few hiccups) I was looking into Clear Sky for more of the same. I'm not sure whether to buy it though... I've heard both good and bad about it. I also read about a few mods that would "improve the experience". I play the original STALKER without mods. So is it worth getting? What mods should I get, in your opinion, that would make the game better? More importantly, are those mods stable, as in, they don't make the game crash?

You could get the Oblivion Lost mod, it's pretty good.

Clear Sky is also good, although more linear and focuses more on action... however, the anomalies are far more dangerous.

I say give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Yeah, I really enjoyed STALKER, although it was pretty short, I'm already at Pripyat. Too bad I just found out about the Oblivion Lost mod... I don't really feel like playing the whole game all over again, seeing how linear it is. I'll still check it out for an eventual later playthrough though.

didn't really like Clear Sky, especially the latter part of the game. some very annoying passages inthere with very little interest.

For the first STALKER, AMK is probably the most popular mod.

CS looks interesting, but I could never get it to run properly on my Vista, so I gave up on it for now.

Any recommendations on stalker mods? Never played it, thinking about buying it

I think everyone should play Oblivion Lost mod at least once. Probably better to finish vanilla first, it's a good game without mods too.
I still haven't finished Clear Sky, while I keep replaying SoC - Oblivion Lost.

Have you got a link to a working version? As every version of AMK I've tried crashes as soon as I speak to Sidorovich.

Oblivion Lost with the arsenal mod is fun, even if you aren't into guns.

I still haven't finished it too but not because I don't wanted to... I tried it four times now but everytime I can not finish the damn game because of bugs. Unpatched it was unplayable, later it was better but keeps crashing and crashing... with the latest patch I could play further than before but then the scripts got a hang up and every npc has done... nothing, just standing around. This is so much not motivating.

Still, I love the interface and gameplay changes in CS- thats why I like it more than SoC. If someone could mod this stuff from CS to SoC, I would go back to SoC tho'.

This still doesn't really answer my question; is there a good total conversion for Clear Sky or should I just play it unmodified?

I finished SoC yesterday, got the good ending (it was hard!). I would like to try Oblivion Lost, but due to the story being pretty linear and me having good game memory (still haven't replayed the Baldur's Gate series...) I probably won't play this game again for a pretty long time, which is too bad. People should really start making mods with new storylines.

I'm running the Windows 7 beta by the way, and there was some lag in SoC, which I think was unrelated to hardware (tried lowering settings, didn't change). A friend of mine is running Clear Sky without issues though, so it should work.

In my case, it's the atmosphere that keeps me coming back to SoC, not the story. I just have to play this game every once in a while for that special feeling. The environments, coupled with beautiful haunting ambient score (I even turn down the sound effects to hear the music better) are what got me addicted to it. And OL only makes it better.

The scores are good, yes. VERY Fallout-inspired. A couple of times I could almost swear it was a Fallout soundtrack. It's pretty obvious the developers are fans. Hell, they should've produced Fallout 3 instead of Buttesda bothing it (not to mention the first expansion).

No, I don't, sorry. I played STALKER a while ago.

Right. I've come to the conclusion that the STALKER mod community is a swamp. What's the best mod out there and can you combine several mods? Still no new storyline mod?

^ Might not be the most active modding community out there. I don't think the game NEEDS a storyline mod as such, because most people don't feel like it needs to be modded imho.

Well, no, the story is awesome. But you know, very linear. I don't think I'll play it again for some time. A new storyline would encourage me to replay the game with the cool mods.
