The Best (and Worst?) Main Menus

Let's talk about main menus, title screens. Whatever. They're (basically) in every game but I feel they're quite underrated in setting the tone. Especially in larger games where you'll be coming back and logging onto that menu a lot. So, let's talk about some of the best or the worst. Whatever you fancy.

For me, I think the main menu to Hotline Miami has to be by far my favourite. Serene but strange music, the russian font, the washed out weird vaporwave-before-vaporwave visuals. Immediately establishes the surrealist vibe.

One of the worst that comes to mind is probably Skyrim. For such a touchstone title, it has literally the most underwhelming and low effort title screen ever. It's not even minimalist, it's just boring.

I love the Left 4 Dead 2 main menus. There's one for each campaign and is all randomly generated each time you load up the game. It adds to the already tremendous replay-ability.

Just Cause 3's main menu is also good. It's just a treat.

Forza Horizon 3's a good game, but fuck this noise, and FUCK the majority of this game's soundtrack. Only the rock station has more than one good song on it but even that becomes insufferable at times.

An additional shoutout goes to MGSV (GZ and TPP) for its excellent main menus. The smooth, immersive transition is great and watching Big Boss puff on a cigar is always cool.

The one-time main menu turing The Phantom Pain's intro is also a standout.
