The Czechs scoop the world: new Fallout 3 screenshots

Jesterka wrote in to tell us he wrote a Fallout 3 new summary for the Czech Tiscali, using the standard screenshots. However, his editor replaced them with a handful of screenshots (low-quality scans) that are said to be from Games for Windows.

Normally one would have his doubts, but I immediately recognised these screens as showing stuff from the demo. The enormous mutant is the Behemoth, the building behind the Brahmin is Megaton.

Sorry for the low quality, it's all we have.

Lots of thanks to Jesterka (and his editor)!

Number 1. The detail on the brahmin is remarkable. Wow.

Number 2. The behemoth....... *sigh*... looks even more horrible than I thought.

Number 3. Yeah the last screenshot really shows off Fallout 3's RPG elements.............................

All in all, with the combination of the brahmin and the mutants, these screens make me not want to eat meat ever again.

The game is so bland looking...It looks like the SAS missions in COD4 with the saturation turned down even further.

EDIT:
Aahahaha! I beat you, BN!

That's interesting, Games for Windows gets the scoop, the very same magazine that's been hating on Fallout 3 fans continuously for months now, and uses every opportunity to try and degrade us.

Nice, GFW and Bethesda, very nice. Very classy. Not suspect at all.

wow poo coloured supermutie ...
i'm really dissapointed by the lighting this engine has - other than that .. everything seems so barren .. you mean to tell me there's no vegetation ?

There wasn't any in Fallout 1, either.

It's a wasteland, remember? Don't be silly.

wow... those pictures look much worse than anything i have seen since doom.

and doom had cleaner graphics.

and even if they clean up the behemoth face, thats just UGH period. it looks like one of those burn victims where their skin melted.

The graphics look good, in terms of quality, but I don't like the aesthetics. Colors are bland and uninteresting, characters are ok, the sky's constant grey is just depressing (the sun never comes out?), and the behemoth just looks ridiculous.

Also, aren't mutant apples vegetation? If apple trees grow, why can't other flora?

Actually, you got it the wrong way around. The environmental art was really impressive, the wasteland and ruins looked slightly bland but pretty damned well-made.

It's the character art that Bethesda is failing at, again, not the world art.

As for the apple trees: none of those in Fallout 1 either :D

I always just assumed they were from the sparse few places that had vegetation. The oasis. 'cause the Wasteland only had some marram grass and that was it.

I didn't say anything about the buildings?
I don't really like what I've seen of the buildings. The ones in the trailer looked fine, but how much of that is in the actual game? All the ones I've seen in screens look very bland.

Anyway, I don't mind the (human) characters so much (art wise). The sherrif looks fine. If they fixed that silly vault suit, I don't think anyone would really complain about them.

What did the Brahmin eat, if not vegetation? Unless they developed a taste for human flesh, I don't think anyone would waste food on them, so there must be some grass or something, right?

i'm happy people can have a glimpse at the behemoth for themself now, so they can see why i didn't like it. :)

well, tbh i thought that the dusty sandy FO graphics had a lot more character and atmosphere than the grey ones in FO3. i really missed that tone of color.

still, i've never been to DC, so i wouldnt know which tone is 'right' for the area.

I just hope to god when they beta test this... all of the testers say

"Fix ugly mutant, more vats less run and gun, no fatman"

*edit* Interesting concept. How about say if, certain members of NMA infiltrated bethesda, as normal beta-testers, and gave proper "Advice".

If they want a war... A WAR THEY SHALL HAVE!! MUAHhahahHAHAha....

sorry.

To me, DC is a little bit grey, yes, but I would've picked red (like the bricks) or yellow (like old film) to be my atmospheric color. Lots of bricks, lots of blue water, lots of white buildings, lots of green grass and parks (which in a wasteland should be tannish, I guess?).

@BN:
I saw that, I just figured you meant there wasn't very much of it...So, you agree that there should be more vegetation? Because that's not what you said earlier...

I must say I didn't believe in its authenticity too much (y'know, the quality of scans is just low, the source is quite nameless and above all, NMA has spotted nothing... not mentioning my paranoia). But if BN know that scenes from demo, there's no doubt about it.

Anyway, my bosses are surprising me more and more, they have damn good research. Who might think they're taking a mag which I didn't know at all. :D

Dude.

I don't see any significant difference in vegetation.

You're whining about something that's not actually wrong. Please stop it, it's very embarrassing and reinforces the Fallout fan stereotype when you do that.
