Since the recent events that have come to light with the owner of NeoGaf website, I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the forums going into complete chaos. Glad this happened? Angered? Don't care at all? I'd like to hear from you guys.

(Ps. I've finally escaped my busy life to make this thread as well so hello again everyone! ^_^)

WTF is NeoGaf and why should I care about it?
It was this huge forum site that had a fairly large following. It had many subgroups for specific topics like games, pop culture, art, etc. Its been considered a cesspool by many because the majority of people that are there are very intolerant of differing viewpoints/opinions. And apparently the owner is being prosecuted of sexually assaulting a woman and all the mods have jumped ship. Without moderation everyone is either:
A) Losing their shit.
B) Freely speaking their mind w/ out fear of being banned by modsm

I agree with @TheGM that it is a containment forum but it is also a festering Cancer that spreads its toxicity everywhere. Hopefully everyone there can get a life or a job that doesn't involve shilling video game companies.

Only 2 examples. 3 gives cancer.

They did break gaming news before many gaming sites though, so there was that. Plus they had good threads dedicated to their respective favorite games. Differing opinion was punished as mentioned. Best for lurking. Now it is total shit.

It is also a rumor mill that get sourced by tons of clickbait articles and all suspiciously pushes a certain narrative in the industry.
So like everywhere else on the internet.

Except people treat every unverified rumor in that website with some credibility just because some PR people released some controlled leaks into that website.

For some people controlled leaks are better than none or fake ones. Not my case but, I have seen many people like that, getting all hyped when a tiny bit of information is leaked, it's like they are having an orgasm or something.

I don't really give a damn about that place, I haven't read anything from there in years and years and I never really frequented the site (I got there from some article in a different site in the past).

I don't read gaming sites and am totally uninformed about games, my motto these days is "once it's out it's out, if it seems ok after it's out I will take a look, if it still seems ok or good, I will buy it on some sale or something". So I don't really follow gaming internet communities (TTW and NMA are pretty much the ones I go to, and these are more specific places).

I don't understand why this is generating such a fuss. Do people really care this much about that site?

While not pertaining to Neogaf, one recent example was the rumor on Reddit that FO4 was only allowing a male protagonist. When it was revealed at a presentation that you could play a female protagonist in FO4, people were cheering. People were cheering at the inclusion of a female protagonist which is playable in literally every Fallout title (even POS). There was even that article where the writer said that it is a first in the series. The same thing happen when people were cheering how the PS4 allowed you to play pre-owned games and play offline but added an extra online fee.

I called it a festering Cancer because it spreads. Neogaf is also the king of making controversies about things that no one actually cares about. It is a shill site disguising itself as a voice of the consumers.

The name NeoGaf rings a bell but I've never signed up or even really lurked there. Probably good I didn't.
