CNN said:
A massive dust storm swept through parts of Australia on Wednesday, bathing the city of Sydney in a reddish haze. Susan Paget marveled at the eerie red view from the balcony of her apartment in Manly, a suburb of Sydney, and said she took the day off work to avoid the dust storm mess.

"It just feels dirty and rusty," Paget told CNN. "It was totally bizarre to wake up around 5:30 a.m. and see such a red bizarre sky." A video Paget submitted to CNN's iReport showed thick haze, which made it difficult to see her neighbors' homes. Watch Paget's updated iReport

Health officials in Sydney warned residents to stay in indoors if possible, especially if they had asthma or heart and lung conditions.

"Avoid spending too much time outdoors due to the high particle levels and hazardous air quality," the New South Wales Department of Heath Web site said.

The Ambulance Service of New South Wales said the dust storm had kept it busy with emergency calls.

"We have already seen an increase in calls to people suffering from asthma and other respiratory problems," the agency said in a statement.

iReporter Mark Clarke told CNN he woke up earlier than usual with a stuffy nose and cough at his home in Stanmore, a suburb of Sydney.

He pulled the curtains back and saw a "strange red orangish glow coming from outside."

"It feels and smells like a vacuum cleaner exploded," he said.

The country's bureau of meterology attributed the red haze to strong north-westerly winds which blew the dust overnight to Sydney and regions west of the capital.

During the day, the dust blanket moved north onto the Queensland capital of Brisbane.

The bureau of meterology's senior forecaster Tony Auden told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that the haze was likely to continue moving north.

"It should make its way up into the Sunshine Coast and into those Capricornia and central coast areas soon," he said. "For the south-east expect it to probably linger for the rest of today and hopefully settle out of the air overnight."

I wish I could have seen it myself. Looks very spectacular. The first video reminded me of Necropolis.

@ McRae

Lol at this being your first post in ages ... Welcome back (?) man :)

Also - looks freaky.

I think that Gods of Gaming are punishing Australia for their anti-gaming laws.

It looks pretty... like Mars. And why are those people amazed by what appears to be a floating plastic bag in the last clip?

They should just have felt lucky from the fact that it still was sand and not snow, fire, nukes or the like.

Snow is nice. But I guess snow in Australia would mean things aren't all that right. (Unless it does snow in Australia, I don't know).

God called, he said the dust storms were a warning for aussies to quit fucking sheep, roos, and dingos.

It's pissing him off.

"In Australia, snow can fall in the mountains of Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Tasmania. There is a regular snow season in several areas which have seasonal ski tourism industries. Sometimes snow has even been reported in the mountains of South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland though this is very rare."

People can be amazed by many stupid things, like flies flying around a pile of shit.

The clips look Mad Max-ish.

I actually find such landscapes quite beautiful and exhilarating, I don't know what is that people see in sunny days, they are so ordinary.

Or maybe it's just a thing I have with apocalyptic landscapes.

Remind me of this video, minus the flying debris, burning stuffs, and mushroom cloud.

That was just a stupid epilouge- like "level" in CoD 4 with made only to lenghten the SP campaing of it for a few minutes.

Nothing more to it.

And BTW, if you wonder what's so bad about snow, you haven't lived in Finland in winter (althought those snowy winters are shortening due the global warming probably, thank god.)

The Rat God is punishing them for chasing off the notoroious rat infestations in Australia. Nuff said.

Hate to be the folks that have to clean up the aftermath of this dust storm.....There once a paper factory near my house that went up in flame and the aftermath ain't pretty. Annoying white fluffy dust covering the whole area....pain in the ass to clean it :x

Agree with you. But still, my point with the vid is that the similarity this vid and the dust storm happened in Australia. No need to bash anything, mkay?

lol, how is this unusual?

Beijing is like that most of the time, especially during fall season when the sand/polluted dust storms sweeps the city in a multicolored haze.
