The fallout film thread

Tiny Tim

Still Mildly Glowing
This is a thread for recommended films that either:

1. Have influenced fallout and its universe, directly or not
2. Are referenced in fallout
3. Have similar settings and themes
4. Have a somewhat similar atmosphere
edit
6. Have been influenced by fallout ( if any exists )

so we can have nerdy carpenter horror films, monty python, films with post-apocalyptic setting, exploitation films, films with a nihilistic or antiestablishment vibe etc

I'll start with the obvious, the mad max trilogy, particularly the road warrior and beyond thunderdome.
These films, starting as low budget Aussiesploitations, gained huge popularity and defined the post-apocalyptic genre. They have directly influenced fallout and are the closest thing to fallout i can think of in film, thematically and aesthetically. Lots of nods to mad max in fallout games, namely dogmeat, the leather jacket, the term wasteland, the highwayman and in fact the whole character of the vault dweller and the chosen one is a lot like max's road warrior ( though there are older examples of lone drifters with no name who walk to a town, change its political situation and then walk away like yojimbo and the man with no name from the dollar trilogy) .
Oh, and of course there's this special encounter from fallout 2 where the mad max protagonist appears if you attack dogmeat

( 4:03)

( i've yet to see the new one, is it still cool? )

I think there are wiki pages with list the references.

I recall references about Dr Who, Monthy Python and the Holy Grail, They Live, Terminator, Mad Max, A boy and his dog.

Can we also mention movies inspired by (or making references to) Fallout? I don't have a lot that come to mind right now, but surely, there must be some of them. I think that Defiance's pilot made an hommage with the soundtrack in the last scene.

yeah, i'll add that

yes, i was thinking we could discuss these and any other fallout-like films and recommend them to each other

ps:i'm actually wacthing the newest mad max right now

A boy and his dog is definitely a MAJOR influence on Fallout.
(and the title is quite misleading. It is more like a young adult man and a cynical talkative dog)

Holy brahmin, i just watched it. It was brilliant ! Really.
They guy who directed this, i've see him play in a lot of films . But i understand this is the only one he directed?
It was a freaking masterpiece. Thanks a ton for the recommendation, naossano .

edit: i found a very interesting analysis from a feminist point of view, if anyone here is interested in the film

I didn't see it that way though, i thought the protagonist was just crazy ( after all dogs can't speak and the girl even comments on that) and that the film's "plot" just projecting his fears. So, the ending was not a happy ending for me but a kind of nihilist one.
But with that in mind, i could read the analysis points as if they were directed to the boy's POV and not the filmaker's ( so that the boy was afraid of women) , and it was a very good read.
