The force awakens is the fallout 3 of star wars

Tiny Tim

Still Mildly Glowing
I mean it's cool and all except it's kind of dumb and the plot doesn't really make sense . Not only the countless small things but the whole freaking setting .
For the most part it is copying new hopes' themes while removing the political backround and therefore stripping them of meaning , in a way that reminded me of bethesda . War without any explanation or reason , other than attempting to capture the original lore's vibe .

Not 2 but 3 major factions coexist in this film. The "resistance" ( seriously why are they called the resistance? ) , is fighting alongside the new republic ( which apparently rules the galaxy but for which we know nothing about ) against , well , the actual resistance called first order which is a freaking huge army of nazi-stormtroopers that seemingly want to destroy the republic though they seem at least as strong as the empire was 30 years ago and obviously stronger than the republic that rules the universe ! Probably a lot stronger judging by the size of their new death star ( sorry starkiller ) .
Eventually , the first order fucking blows up a ton of planets like they were nothing , effectively destroying the new republic completely with their gigantic starkiller . No one really cares that much though , they're like oh what a shame, and then somehow the resistance easily blows the death star up . Victory .

And i haven't even touched the plot holes in the main story. Anyone agree?

I liked rogue one , though

Didn't we have this thread topic already, or is my memory failing me, or am I starting to have visions from the future?

The Force Awakens does basically have the appeal of Fallout 3 in that it reintroduces all the major players to a new generation. However, it also gets a lot of complaints because it's reusing assets instead of introducing new ones like the Prequels.

Apologies if you guys had a similar thread . It would be cool if someone had the same idea , it really did remind me of bethesda the way they handled it . Happy new year by the way !

We have it the other way around, that Fallout 3 is the TFA of Fallout. Still can't decide if this thread is supposed to be a clever spoof (that failed miserably) or an amazing coincidence.

More like amazing coincidence , honestly

TFA is like fallout 3 in exactly ONE way. It's set a considerable amount of time after it's predecessor.

  • 30 years(?) for TFA
  • 200 years (after the war) for fallout 3.
And absolutely fuckall has happened in either universe. in terms of what should be happening both are botched messes when sittin right next to their predecessor. The big difference between the two is, unlike TFA, Fallout 3 doesn't make sense by itself.

So no one is with me here ? No one felt that the force awakens story was a bit dumb ?

I think Star Wars as a whole is pretty dumb. I still love it to pieces and think it has 5 really good films, 1 decent film and 2 awful ones (I've yet to see Rogue One).

Star wars has two really good films. Jedi is merely okay imo. All the prequels were horrible. And no revenge of sith being less horrible doesn't make it good. TFA is too much of a retread to be considered truly great imo. It did hit 2/3 though. And rogue one is just dumb fun.

Despite its faults, I still consider Jedi a really good film.
Where it missed the mark on one thing, it hit bull's-eye on everything else.
For a long time, it was my favorite of the series (and my reason has nothing to do with ewoks).

Revenge of the Sith is okay...
It's not terrible but it's not great either.
It has its moments, but it does stand on itself as a pretty okay film.

TFA I think needed to retread a lot of the ideas from the original trilogy.
It was the film we needed it to be, now we need Episode 8 to be something different.

@Millim
Revenge of the sith is every bit of an atrocity as aotc or tpm. It's just slightly less terrible in the story department but the lifeless characters, awkward dialogue, and overuse of CGI are still a massive problem. It's May stink less than the other two But make no mistake it's still a piece of shit. Rogue one more fits the description you just gave rots.

Also, false TFA in no way needed to be a retread coasting on nostalgia alone. It needed to be a new story instead we got the same story just set.... Later. I don't know about you but that makes the universe feel stagnant And small. And, imo, that's the worst thing star wars can be.

Of course it's a bit dumb. But it doesn't really matter.
I like the new characters and I hope they'll do something more interesting with them in the next films.

I think if anything is "the Fallout 3 of Star Wars", it's the prequels.

No , i mean the prequels were silly but their story about the clone wars and anakin did made sense in my opinion . They were still part of a saga where story ( even if it is black and white or even a melodrama ) drove you to watch . So with all their cgi and kid's crap , they were kind of old school .
FA is much more bearable to watch but its story collapses if you think about it even a little while . This reminded of bethesda's most famous games , particularly because you are not supposed to think about it's story , just lose yourself in the cool atmosphere-style .
