The Great Khans: What is your opinion on this faction?

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Hey everyone,

During my last playthrough of F:NV I sort of roleplayed a Great Khan and did a lot of their quests (and collected a lot of 1st recon berets). I also downloaded a mod in which you get the option to recruit a Great Khan companion. All-in-all I really enjoyed them as a faction and I felt like sharing my experiences. I'm also curious to hear what you have to say about the Khans.

To me, they're a raider gang done right.
Despite their tendencies towards drugs and violence, they're portrayed as actual human beings. In fact, I found them to be some of the most believable characters in the game.

I would've loved to see more content involving them, especially since the Mojave contains so much history concerning the feud between the Khans and the NCR. A focus on a conflict between the Khans and the NCR would've given a more 'grey' pallet in terms of moral choices, ringing true to the Fallout genre.

So what did you guys think of the Great Khans in Fallout New Vegas?

Well, in New Vegas they're a shadow of their former selves after being hunted down by the NCR. If they hadn't rushed New Vegas, perhaps they could've fleshed out a lot of the factions, including the Great Khans. For me, nothing screams Fallout more than a raider gang like the Khans and I would've loved to see more quests and interactions with them. Especially in NV they're portrayed in a very neutral manner, which I think works better at setting up moral dilemma's than the "black/white" choices we see elsewhere.

The Great Khans are a great faction. I just wished I could've seen them more in the wasteland, rather than the canyon, Boulder City, the quarry, and random corpses here and there.

Seeing them do actual raiding and/or maybe a quest involving them raiding a town/vault would've been nice.

The Khans are badass because they raid for survival, not cause they're bored cunts like the raiders in Bethesda Fallouts...

I like that they've expanded into other ventures, such as the chems making, and that they don't shoot you on sight. If you don't get in their way (and you're not explicitly NCR) they'll talk to you and put up with you so long as you don't fuck about.

Great Khans are like a level up from your usual raider gang, and even having their "economy" (with drugs/Crimson caravan deals). I like em.

I don't really understand their motivations, because they aren't all that well explored. Kind of the usual tragedy of NV: not enough time, too many restrictions. For one thing they never really explain why they raid. It's just something they do. The whole drug trade angle feels unexplored. We could have seen them as people saw Al Capone. It was also weird that they never seemed to be on any of the drugs they make and sell. Which is odd, realism wise. I would have liked to see their transformation from typical raiders to a faction that will form a nation, as is the case in my preferred ending for them. Though I'm starting to waffle a bit on some of those decisions in my latest run. Just finished wiping out the BoS. Starting doing it in Fo3 already, but I'm not going to have a bunch of techno-zealotous bandits harassing the valley.
