The Radio stations suck

Idiotfool

Still Mildly Glowing
I'm getting really tired of "Johnny Guitar" and the other 5 songs that play over and over and over again.

I hated FO3 and I don't really remember it, other than it was terrible, but was the radio so awful in that one? If not, what reason is there that the radio stations are so limited? Where the hell are the Elvis songs, since he's basically a character in the game?! What about the thousands of other songs that were out in the 50s?

It drives me crazy to hear the same song on my drive home two days in a row. The repetitive music in this game is almost unbearable!

copyrights are a PITA. With WMG and other groups pretty much out to milk music for every penny, it's hard to justify adding in lots of music at a certain price point.

Thankfully, however, mods take care of that. Conelrad, Radio New Vegas Extended, Existenz, etc. etc. make the radios worthwhile.

Of course, you can always mod in your own music.

I think they could've saved some dough and not had Wayne Newton as Mr. New Vegas.

How does NV radio compare to F3?

Wayne Newton is "Mister Las Vegas"... he certainly fits more than Three Dog's bad pirate radio voice.

Mister New Vegas is much easier to listen to - as he actually talks about what's going on in the Wasteland, and isn't grating on the ears. The criticism is that he appears too often and repeats himself a bit more.

Three Dog, on the other hand, is practically a low-budget Shock Jock and only talks about the Lone Wanderer. There may be three total news reports of his that have nothing to do with James or the "Kid from 101."

Your mileage may vary on the song choices. Many of the songs in Fallout 3 to me didn't really fit the dissonant tone of 50s atomic horror.

On the other hand, New Vegas was more or less a pre-war country music station being played after the atomic bomb. "Johnny Guitar" to plays waaaay to often.

Aww I like the radio music of New Vegas (Well most of the songs)

But if you hate the music so much then turn it off

Yeah, I just put a thumb drive into the 360 with music I want on it...set to shuffle.

And yes, I put Elvis on there. Complete bullshit considering you have like 6 quests named after his songs and a whole faction impersonating him

I personally liked the music on GNR.

The music on RNV was pretty low-tier though, I'll agree.
The blues that play on Big MT.'s radio signal are pretty nice though.

I rather liked New Vegas (I love Dean Martin) and his radio. The music selection really made the station, as it was just the right mix of nostalgia, optimism and that elusive, Fallout vibe. Plus, Wayne Newton's expertise and expertly written lines make for listening far more enjoyable than GNR. It really makes one feel that there's a larger world out there, beyond the Courier.

Radio New Vegas really helped set the tone of the game for me. Going through a place like Novac with Johnny Guitar blasting out my speakers brings a nice feeling to my insides.

If the radio station were entirely dialogue and more lengthy and elaborate (news / propaganda - or even interviews / programs) then I would actually listen to them.

That sort of thing works well in the Grand Theft Auto series I could see that in a Fallout game.

I think I should point out that I never actively have the radio playing from my character's Pip Boy. I just catch enough from the random radio encounters that I want to shoot myself.

It may have been exacerbated with the Tops casino: I think they have a 4 song playlist and it's all from Radio New Vegas.

That's the crap that drives me crazy. Why the hell did they make a custom station just for one area that has the exact same songs as the station you already hear everywhere!? At least the Grand Luxe had Classical music which you encountered rarely elsewhere. Tops and Gammorah radio was the pits.

Since Grand Theft Auto was brought up: How did they license so much music for Vice City but a few dozen more songs couldn't be licensed for this game? The other nice thing about GTA was that they had NEW music made for the game, as well. Sure, there's some instrumental stuff that was made specific for the game, but it's few and far between and lacks vocals.

I can't expect an Elvis song would really be that expensive by comparison to the other songs on the playlists.

For someone who hasn't played F3 or FNV, how is it that there are radio stations playing music in the wastelands, it seems ridiculous.

In FO3, the BOS salvaged the equipment from an old Radio Station, and set up a DJ that had some very old tapes with music so he broadcasts propaganda and music for them, also an old lady uses a homemade radio to transmit her Violin playing, and the Enclave has radio equipment because they have tech and the Computer President broadcasts his corny speeches.

In New Vegas House set up a treaty with the NCR to help them restore Hoover Dam, which powered up most of the region, Hosue needs people visiting the Strip and the surrounding areas so he set up two radio stations with a AI DJ based upon Wyane Newton and plays old music, Tabitha is a crazy Supermutant that barricaded herself along with her followers in Black Mountain, which has a giant Radio Dish and she Rambles her psychotic rants.

There, explained to you.

The ambient sound in FNV is so good, I never turn on the radio.

I grow tired fast of Radio New Vegas thats why I installed Conelrad mod and it is simply amazing.
