The type of game you always wanted to play

Four Suited Jack

It Wandered In From the Wastes
You know what game I always wanted to play?

It's a concept I heard from someone else.

A free roam sand-box type of game, where you play this character who is either insane or troubled and you go around planning the murders of these other main characters in the game.
You can decide to either be a serial killer or a mass murderer, choosing between stalking, harming and killing your victims or just going on a killing spree.

A psychological aspect of it would be awesome, like killing family members, pets, causing damage to property and so on would cause the NPCs in question to behave differently.

A good deal of character customization would be good too, clothes, gender, age and so on.

That would be epic. Of course there would need to be more thought to it than what I stated but you get the idea.

A rather grotesque concept, I know.

So, what type of game would y'all like to play?

So you would be able to choose between killing a lot of people, and kill a lot of people? cool concept....

Think of it like the Hitman series but more free and detailed.

Everyone has their own personal preferences and dislikes, would you like it if I insulted your preferences?

Red Dead Redemption with FNV's hardcore mode and a world at least twice the size of Fuel. In Stephen King's Darktower setting on the PC.

YES! a thousand times yes!

For Me: A free roam GTA-esque zombie apocalypse game, with survival elements (finding food water and other essentials).

This idea originally came to me from playing A Kingdom For Keflings right alongside having a Starcraft resurgence.

For those not familiar with A Kingdom For Keflings, it's an xbox live arcade game that was one of the few third party titles to have Avatar support right when the "New Xbox Experience" was launched. In it, you are a giant, and help a group of small, somewhat incompetent Keflings, build a kingdom. You set them to do tasks, denoted by what kind of hat they are wearing, they go about cutting down trees, mining rocks, carrying that shit to workshops, where you tell them what to build, take those parts, build the buildings, refine those resources (rocks become cut stones become bricks), build bigger buildings to make the town hall a keep and then a castle. You could also build a bunch of statues and trees and shit to make the place look pretty, but it was a pretty fun thing to set them up to harvest resources and process them automatically.

I got the idea where you'd have a similar system, where'd you be some godking type dude, where'd you build a city through the ages, advancing with technology, building housing and logistics support for your dudes to get more dudes so you could further deforest the area and make bigger houses and cities and such.

Of course, this is just part A. I thought of different dificulty options (because if Halo has ever done one thing right it's customizable difficulty outside of easy > normal >hard >very hard and it's the only game I know of off the top of my head that did so in a nice fashion), where you could dangerous weather, wildlife, etc, which would also allow you build militias/armies.

This is still part A.

Part B would be a mode that instead focused on war, not just to up the difficulty, but also force the players to learn strategy and construct their cities in such a fashion as to make it more difficult to lay siege to. Not just fighting off hordes of barbarians or rampant elephants and carp, but other civilizations that will evolve and you will ultimately have to defeat. And, of course, diplomacy would be option, but your goal would still be to gain more control of the land and rule as much land as possible. All of it, preferably.

Part C would be a mode that would focus on nothing, but instead be similar to a multiplayer skirmish. It'd have all the elements of Parts A&B on by default, having war be an option, dangerous wildlife, seriously inclement weather, etc, the idea being that you'd probably want to be pretty decent at both of them before trying it. It'd be a much more sandboxy version of it, not really having any rules or goals other than to survive, by default, though you could always set your own goals in-game.

I realize it sounds pretty similar to part B, but in my head the difference is pretty clear, I'm just not quite sure how to put it into words, other than saying it doesn't really focus on anything other than having fun, with no in-game predilection towards anyone play style or hazards or anything like that.

If all of this makes no sense just keep in mind it's three in the morning I can't sleep.

WHAT THE FUCK!? I this the game you want to play? How fucked in the head are you!? That's sick! It isn't 'cool', why would you want to play that, and what the hell is the point of character customisation? Oh, yipee! Now I get to see myself murder and torture innocent civilians yay!

What do I like to play? A simple game, something like From Dust, or Journey, both very simple games, but a lot of fun, or a RTS maybe but with a fresh twist

YEAH! We need another RPG with an original setting, not any of this 'fantasy' bullshit, we've seen that too many times!

For starters, I never said it was cool and I did not try to imply that it was.

Moving on, in Fallout you can murder whomever the hell you want, in Hitman the point of the game is to hunt down and murder your targets, in mercenaries you can level entire towns and cities, in Modern Warfare 2 there's a scene where civilians get gunned down at an airport while you watch or take part, there's Manhunt and Naughty Bear and so on. Since when have games been innocent?

Also, I am perfectly sane, I am not a violent person, I've never lifted a finger against anyone, you see, I can differentiate between fantasy and reality, I'm also sure you're familiar with the concept of role-playing, seeing as you play a game based around that concept, the idea I posted in the OP was simply something I've always just wanted to try doing, Hitman comes close but it's too restrictive, Naughty Bear also comes close but is, again, too restrictive and very unrealistic.

On the customization part, I never intended to input myself into a game and I never have, ever.

Now, lastly I want to say that this is simply a matter of preference, if you do not like my idea then so be it, insulting me was both needless and unwarranted.

A small squad, strategy based Mafia RPG set during prohibition, where you start off as a regular Thug and you have to scalate your way to the top in different ways, creating your team of associates with a variety to choose from, each one with their own personality and motives, even clashing ones that would make or impossible to make a team with certain combination of characters work, having different endings and stuff.
I love Graphic Adventure games and the "Point and click" variety too, so I would like to see more of those.
Also as some had said, a Full western RPG; maybe a supernatural western (like Jonah Hex).
I also have ideas for a Shin Megami Tensei Gaiden game based on the setting or ideas from the Persona series, I just like scribbling things in my sketchpad, writing down ideas down.

Also! We need a good Sidescrolling beat em up, I love the Megaman Series, but sidescroller beat em ups seem to have been relegated to be movie tie ins now a days, very few major ones released, good plataforming, fast paced combat etc.

I'm sorry if I insulted you, but a game where you stalk and torture/murder innocent civilians doesn't sound very 'sane' to me, but if you want a game like that, hey, your preference

Ain't that pretty much GTA with more detailed NPCs?

your idea sucks because for being a free roam sandbox game you have two choices (crazy or subtle crazy) and it basically revolves around you murdering random people for no actual reason? Yeah, it's kinda fucked up.

In most games you typically have a reason for your murderous tendencies, and it makes sense, or the violence is so wacky it might as well be set in toon town. None of those involve stalking and 'tormenting' the AI just so you could make their demise all the more satisfying for your bloodlust.

I suppose you could put it like that, I was being rather vague though, it's not like a plan to put this idea toward any developer or what-not.

Subjectivity.

People have different preferences, what I used to love doing in Hitman was going around killing every NPC on the map without getting caught, I didn't have a goal, I just wanted to.

I've always wanted a more detailed and in-depth version of that.

Besides, as I said, it's not like I'm putting this forth as the finished idea, of course more thought would need to be put into it, I was simply stating the concept in it's vague form.

I suppose you really like killing stuff in videogames..

I really don't see the point in mass murdering people in a game like Hitman.
That game satisfies me when you infiltrate successfully, do your job and get out while triggering no alerts.
The killing itself is nothing worth of value...you simply watch 4 seconds of strangulation. The fun part is getting there. So yeah...you really need a detailed game to satisfy your thirst ;]

Ooh, and the game I always wanted to play already exists :). I just want it bug-free and updated from time to time. Also..working multiplayer. I'm talking about "The Guild 2 Renaissance"

I just find the idea of the whole mass murder thing a bit messed up, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I shouldn't have to say this, but we're talking about video games. Video games are not reality.

Do you get up in arms about the brutal turtle stomping genocide perpetuated by the family-friendly Mario series?

How about the hundreds of thousands of random "bad guys" we've all "murdered" while playing countless RPGs?

What about that random civilian you mowed down on the sidewalk when you were fleeing the cops in GTA? Did the fact that his digital wife and kids no longer have a husband and father cause you to turn off your console and hold a prayer vigil?

No, because that's fucking ridiculous. I don't see how having a sandbox serial killer game is any worse than any other game that involves "killing" pixel-people in one form or another.

You've presented yourself as an ill-informed condescending hypocrite.

A nation-building game. Not something like Civilization, something deeper, where philosophical ideas are traded and evolve with time (resulting in vastly different mindsets and societies depending on the course of the game, NOT changing from Slavery to super-happy democracy in one year), relatively realistic relationships between States are achieved, trade and economy follows a coherent model, wars are won more on preparation and strategy than on whoever has the most units (numbers would count, just not be everything). And it would not take place on Earth (or even with humans), so that we would be free of historical bias, as much as possible anyway. Yes, I do realize it would be hell and played only by a few people, but damn I would enjoy it so much.

On the more violent side, I would like a more involving shooter experience. One where the PC is not a one-man army, but where control and maintenance of your squad would be paramount. It would have a tactical map (and, of course, non-linear levels, as much as following a story allows, think JA2 or Fallout Tactics), a pause (or a TW2 like time slow) which you could use to give orders to your mates, like scouting a specific area (the map would have a fog of war effect until it has been scouted), grenading this spot, use suppressing fire on these enemies, or defending that building. The PC would be pretty innacurate and die swiftly while confronted to many foes, forcing the player to use his or her squad. At worst, add an easy difficulty setting that tones it down and turn it into a run-off-the-mill shooter where you jump around doing headshots. The old Ghost Recon games on Xbox were the closest to that, but the aimbot AI, unability to issue advanced commands and stupid squadmates made the experience diluted.

Oh, and I would like the setting to be a low-key science fiction one, where mankind has colonized Mars but is unable to go further and faces loads of problem with violence on both Earth and the colonies (and no, none of this ''Mars rebels!!'' bullshit, this place is a rock, nothing more.)

Finally (yes, pretty sleepless these days, I am) I would like a game where the protagonist has the unique ability to ''see'' within the minds of others (no explanation, he just does). ''Normal'' people would have relatively intact minds, those troubled by something big would be rickety, and mad person would have a mess instead of a mind. The protagonist could use his talents to ''rebuild'' minds, curing mental diseases. Along the way he would face skepticism and mockery from psychologists, and what he saw would in turn trouble his mind. The fixing could be a sort of puzzle game, with multiple solutions deciding multiple outcomes with no clear best choice (do you cure a man's schizophrenia by making this or that personality completely take over? And yes this is just an example taken from Dead Money).
