Ultimate Burst Fire Character

I took my own advice from my recent post in Tips For Newbies From A Former Newbie on making a character that could use both long range and melee combat. And I am very pleased with the results and would like to share with everyone here.

Most people make characters using either only melee or long range combat, but many learn the hard way that melee combat isn't very viable or powerful. Certain enemies are too dangerous to approach in melee combat and they would likely tear you to shreds before you got close enough to deal damage. But if you combine both melee and ranged combat together, you can tackle anything with ease! Melee combat is primarily used for when enemies get too close or when you wish to conserve ammo when up against weak opposition. This makes for a powerful and versatile build.

In Fallout 1, there are only seven perk slots available without the Skilled Trait, so the traits you need to take are:

Awareness
Bonus Ranged Damage (2)
Better Criticals
Bonus Rate of Fire
Sniper
Slayer

Since the Fast Shot Trait reduces the AP costs of all weapons, even melee and unarmed, taking Bonus HtH Attacks is redundant. In Fallout 2 however, Fast Shot no longer applies to melee and unarmed, so you can take the perk in Fallout 2. With a total level cap of 99, you can get up to 33 perks, although you don't need that many for your character.

In Fallout 2, I went up to level 51 before I tackled the Oil Rig in order to get all the perks I needed. Here are the perks I chose:

Awareness
Quick Pockets
Better Criticals
Life Giver (2)
Bonus Ranged Damage (2)
Action Boy (2)
Sniper
Slayer
Bonus Rate of Fire
Bonus HtH Attacks
Bonus Move (2)
Tag
Living Anatomy

In Fallout 1, here is how I set my stats at the start:

In Fallout 2, here is how I set my stats for the NCR nueroscan:

In both games, my traits were Gift and Fast Shot. In Fallout 1, the endgame weapons I had were the .223 Pistol and the Minigun. In Fallout 2, I used endgame the Gauss Pistol and the Bozar. In both games, I also had the Super Sledge for ammo conservation and to knock back foes when they came too close.

Once I hit level 24 from doing quests and getting the Sniper perk, I spent a lot of time driving around to the west of EPA killing Deathclaws, Wannamingos, Floaters, and Centaurs to rack up experience points.

I had an easy time taking out the oil rig. Even Frank Horrigan never stood a chance!

All in all, this was the most powerful character I have ever built and I had a lot of fun with it! I highly recommend everyone try this type of character. You'll have more fun.
 
I'm going to do this character over again, but this time, without Life Giver or even Bonus Move. At higher levels, we'll be durable enough without Life Giver and we certainly don't need bonus points for movement as Bonus Move seems to be more useful for melee only characters, and those characters aren't very viable or effective when going up against enemies with guns.

So I'll only have to go up to level 39 to get all the perks I need for this character in Fallout 2.
