Um, does anybody know about speakers/headphones here?

I've been trying to Google the problem for a few weeks now, but god fucking damnit, I have run out of search terms that does not translate into Google trying to sell me shit... and now I'm getting desperate

so - here is the issue: Some instruments go mute. I know some songs well, and the headphones will reproduce these songs - sans some of the instruments present - usually higher pitched ones. Some will play entire albums, all without lead guitar. Another good example is for example Good, Bad, Ugly soundtrack - without the iconic whistle.

I've tried messing around with equalizer (both on Winamp, as well as an equalizer-app for my phone), but no luck. I get the same result wether I plug them into my phone or my computer - it'll reproduce songs, but sometimes leave certain instruments muted - although sometimes *very* faintly audible, way, way back into the distance.

The very same tracks are reproduced without any issues with some cheap-ass ear-plugs that I got laying around. These headphones were a gift, however, and pricey, and it's frustrating that they should behave in this manner right off the bat :I

Does anybody know what the issue here might be?

Is your system configured for more speakers than you currently have connected?

Depending on your setup, you might have the manufactures soundcard configuration tool(s) installed. If so, I would check there first.

I don't know :I How would I find out?

The problem is - it would then be two systems - my PC as well as my phone. The earbuds worked fine on this phone, while the headphones seem to half-mute certain sounds, and then the same for the PC. I got 2 speakers set up with no issues, but plugging the headphones in - like as with the phone - mutes some sounds. They're not *entirely* muted mind you, just... near inaudible, deep in the background.

If my sound was configured wrongly, somehow, would I not have had issues with my regular speakers, or the earbuds?

Dude, what in every fucking hell...

I fixed it

by unplugging, and replugging o_O, as in - from the headphone's plug. The one plug I didn't touch this whole time - the one plug that's been untouched, while I've plugged it in my phone, my PC, back to phone etc - the damn plug to the phones themselves I left it in

but goddamnit - unplug, re-plug, jesus fucking christ what kind of Flintstones fucking solution is that!? And it worked :I
Okay, anyone with the power to do so can use this thread as firewood now.

Thanks for the help anyway, Gizmo!

(The exact problem seemed to be that BOTH "phones" were only playing LEFT channel audio. Unplug and replug made left play left and right play right, correctly)

Modern soundcards often detect when their jacks are in use; and can act accordingly.
