Our thread on Underrail 2: Infusion seems to have gone missing so here's a new one. You can follow the project in devlogs on Stygian Software's homepage or on X.

I have yet to play the first game but this one looks very good! According to the latest devlog the game will have a faster paced combat system than the turn based combat of the original.

You haven't played Underrail 1?
Scrub.

Honestly don't know how I feel about this one though. It lacks the art design of the original and looks too cluttered.

The updated graphical fidelity also makes any animations scream how stiff they are. "But it's alpha!" Yeah I've heard that excuse before.

I'm not gonna watch the whole thing but the part I am at (2 min) the camera is way too zoomed in.

Animations playing and pausing your game interactivity when you equip gear is fucking awful. Can you imagine how tedious that shit is gonna become over the course of a what? 40 hour game?

Modding weapons on the fly is neat. Being able to turn around your weapon in 3D just feels like a lazy design choice for a display window. I'd rather have the weapon lying down on a makeshift table background that looks like a workbench to give it some pizaz. Being able to rotate items in inventory is superfluous fluff IMO.

Bolt cutters and being able to smack through windows is great.

I'mma stop at 8 minutes.
First impressions for me is that it looks overproduced. In graphical fidelity and mechanical gameplay decisions. Alpha schmalpha. I've seen plenty of games in alpha that never polish that much beyond their alpha point so I don't place blind trust in anyone anymore. In its drive to reach a higher graphical fidelity and more "immersive" actions and reactivity from gameplay mechanics it just looks... Soulless honestly. Maybe soul is slated for beta though.

My problem with the graphical fidelity and the highlight key is this: There are games where you can use a highlight key if you want to and there are games where you need to use a highlight key to be able to see what's even interactable. Infusion looks like the latter.

I'll obviously give it another look once it is nearing release but the first impressions so far is disappointing honestly.
