Vote for your top 5 changes from fallout 3 to new vegas

monkeyman

First time out of the vault
Vote time. I’ve seen this work on other sites for constructive feedback.

The rules:
Give your top five (realistic) changes you would like Obsidian to make from fallout 3 to New Vegas. If your choice has already been mentioned just add to the running total. Put any additional comments at the bottom of your post. Copy and paste the scoreboard in your post. Only 5 votes each, you can post as many times as you want but only vote 5 times total.

Format:
votes so far (including you vote), subject, your vote (put a 1)

e.g. first 5 subjects all had one vote to start with, more caps and cars to drive are new ideas

2, more variety of guns, 1
1, more chems
2, more food, 1
1, more types of enemy
2, less encounters, 1
1, more caps, 1
1, cars to drive, 1

Also:
I assume everyone will vote for better storyline/ better dialogue. I also assume this is automatic with obsidian at the helm so will leave it off.

My choices:

1, bigger game map, 1
1, rarer decent weaponry, 1
1, skills go over 100, 1
1, using pip boy doesn’t pause game, 1
1, revamped health system, 1

Why? The game map felt too small in fallout 3 and everyone was too tightly packed, I don’t want more content just more spread out (barren like you would expect in a post apocalypse).
There’s too much good weaponry in fallout 3, I would to see more low level stuff be common place and stuff like a combat shotgun/ Chinese assault rifle be like 1 in 100 items you treasure.
Skills capping at 100 was a bad move by bethsheda it made it too easy to max out a skill, a low skill was still fine for combat and you ended up having very similar characters on replay as you had loads of points leftover by ~10th level onwards.
Pip boy pausing combat totally spoilt any tension in combat as you slowly selected 10 different types of food to replenish health.
Which brings me to health (prepares to be flamed), I would like to see health treated very differently you have your max health level which drops very slowly over time (fatigue) until you rest or eat which causes it to very slowly increase for a set while before it stabilises and then starts to drop again. Bullets etc cause immediate drops (which can be slowed with med-x for example), stimpacks give an immediate boost but you end up lower overall in the long run (like caffeine for tiredness in real life). Stimpacks would be a hot key for use in combat, after combat you would need food/ rest/ doctor/ first aid/ medicine skill to patch yourself up properly.

1. more choices and consequences
2. proper ending narration reflecting your various choices
3. rebalanced SPECIAL
4. traits

Mine would be.

1. - Introduce good combat to the series for the first time ever (FO1, 2, 3 all failed in this aspect), even sprucing up Fallout 3's so that it isn't a terrible shooter would help, and for fuck's sake improve the animations, bad animations in shooters remove all the satisfaction from combat because it comes off clunky and ugly.

2. - Return FO2's karma system and factor in your standing in certain towns heavily when visiting others, I don't think any towns actually cared whether or not you were hated in another, this could just be implemented into an actual dynamic faction system, which would be great.

3. - Less emphasis on exploration and more emphasis on interaction with NPCs, objects and more information regarding these things (more dialog, more unique environmental objects that can be interacted with, solving quests using more interactive set pieces in a variety of ways). Fallout was never about exploring the wastes, it was about exploring the societies that had emerged from it, get your priorities straight.

4. - Don't you dare lie to me you tremendous dill weeds. None of Bethesda's broken promises, no glib PR speak that is so transparent that I want to kill you for thinking me so stupid to actually believe them. And for Christ's sake, never mention immersion.

5. - Obsidian, please make a good game for once.

[Intelligence] So you're asking what's missing from Fallout 3 and could be in New Vegas?

1. A meaningful story with believable characters in the context of a consistent post-nuclear-war universe, presented in an tasteful, humorous, intelligent and somewhat mature way.

2. Dialogue that reflects your character build and in game choices. As in, educated lines for characters that are designed towards science, stupid lines for stupid characters, evil lines for evil characters and so on.

3. Playability from a 3rd person bird's eye view free floating fully rotatable camera, preferably with point and click.

4. Throwing, gambling and outdoorsman skills. That actually do something.

5. Melee/unarmed targeted shots. Eye shots. Groin shots.

Also, would it be a good idea to gather some more answers and make a poll?

1. Absolutely no clean pre-war clothing. I want to see modular clothes (like Morrowind), all of which have the actual wasteland feel to them.

2. Balanced power. Unlike Fallout 3, I want to have to struggle for survival for more than the first five levels. Scavenging for ammo, having my guns jam frequently, and getting in over my head in dungeons add to the immersion factor.

3. Wasteland-themed guns. I want weapons to appear broken, and makeshift, not in prestine pre-war condition.

4. Believable, well-acted characters about whom we can actually care (!).

5. RPG gameplay. Real RPG gameplay, please.

1. In-depth background story and very detailed and original dialogs. Something I consider most important in any RPG.

2. Detailed isometric or 3rd person point of view, meeting current graphics standards. No more half-assed FPS action, please.

3. Introduction of new and original factions. BoS, NCR and a few other small factions are still welcome. Super-mutants (unless they're friendly, like Marcus or intelligent, like Lou) and the Enclave are not welcome.

4. Interesting, canonical and logical (how are they supplied, etc.) locations. No more two-men settlements with repetitive fetching quests.

5. No more tiresome, repetitive and expensive DLC's. I want to buy the game and expect to get the full experience, instead of having to pay 10 Euros for a extra map and some silly NPC's.

[EDIT] 6. A decent soundtrack and well executed radio stations. I loved the soundtracks from the original games which in combination with the gameplay generated a (sometimes eerie) atmosphere that grabbed you by the throat, snapped your neck and didn't let go until the end-credits rolled down the screen. The radio stations from FO3 can stay, if they are well executed.

I agree.

1) Consistent, believable setting;
2) Good story;
3) Intelligent, interesting characters and dialogue choices;
4) Reballanced attributes (also adding traits);
5) Improved, more varied character models

I would also add physics, animations and FPS mechanics to the list, but since the time frame for the game development is pretty scraggy i left those out.

In any case, those are trivial aspects when compared to the main problem of F3 - total lack of versimilitude. Due to the nature of bethesdas developing queerness everything in the game felt artificial and out of place, also, often very idiotic. Let's just hope that obsidian won't use F3 as a canon pool for their game :|

Ignoring things like "better story!" (I'm sure they will try to have a good story)...

1. Fewer, larger settlements
2. VATS not so easy
3. Less damn wildlife
4. Work on impact of skills
5. Less of the usual suspects (BOS, SuperMutants, etc)

Not in any real order.

Aesthetic stuff I don't care a great deal about, graphically FO3 was definitely good enough for me.

Finally, it might be nice if they could come with a reason for why we haven't managed to do anything civilization-related in 200 years. Just for fun. That's always nagged at me.

you dont need new fallout just go to nexus and download few mods.

personally i vote for a bigger map, with traveling options.
more "alive" places because unlike Fo2 almost every major location in FO3 felt dead to me and i dont mean westland dead i mean boring dead.

rivet city?! 3 and half corridors of !?
some places had such a potential and nothing.

anyway the most important Good story, interesting memorable NPC's good dialogue

less dumbing out, i am annoyed at my good like char.

if we use the 3D engine make use of it, i want to brake doors, climb on the rood and beak in through the window.
have binoculars so i can survey the area etc...

1) A better story is more or less a given, but it's still important enough to be #1

2) Balance issues. Perception, Charisma, and Luck need to be un-gimped. More emphasis on SPECIAL being an unchanging set of attributes. Skills that go to at least 200. Dumb dialogue. Return of traits.

3) No design cheating-- unkillable npcs, doors that require keys, items that an npc "has" but cannot be pickpocketed, doors or devices that can't be used "yet". Design that feels DESIGNED and not procedurally generated.

4) Animation and VO work that aren't an embarassment. Third person camera that functions.

5) More focus on settlements and towns, much less focus on the overworld wastes. Make an Obisidian game, not a Bethesda game made by Obsidian

1) Consistent visual design with the original installments (the future as seen in the 50's, not how it'd be made by the High Elves. And no Orcs or magical-ray shooting Ghouls. You know, "a classic rpg without the potions and the fairies and all that crap"). Includes competent animation.
2) Choices and consequences (including clothes you're wearing, reputation, affiliation to one group or another . . . you know, like FO2)
3) Skill-dependent fighting system as opposed to the twitch dependent which F3 has. RPG-s shouldn't require manual dexterity.
4) Mark Morgan
5) I don't want Dialogue trees. I want a fucking Dialogue forest.

That's all I want. :D

Damn right!

1. no god dam minigames

2. birds eye view

3.and make the whole game universe feel right, cause the current one feels like Austin Powers, compared to the original James Bond

4.the whole skill system and item making mod from Van Buren

5. Oh and something I'v been thinking about a lot, If you are doing Vegas, make a side tripp to area 51, cause it's somewhere in the neighborhood

1. Isometric view including guiding your char by point-and-click.

2. Making powerfull items powerfull but hard to obtain or very expensive and limit their use (some PA suits might even eat up energy cells as fuel).

3. No more bs Tesla Armor or Super Mutant Behemoths or Mini Nukes or Nuclear Car Wrecks.

4. Keeping the style and canon closer to the original (NOT PoS or Tactics) without reusing to much material. (I really wouldnt mind Fallout without the Enclave, BoS or Super Mutants)

5. Good writing, deep dialogue, choices and consequences.
