Wasteland 2 Kickstarter has launched

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
With a total window of 34 days, the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter campaign has launched. The goal has been set at $900K. As Brian Fargo mentioned, they need $1M but if they don't make it to that amount he'll pitch in the final $100K himself. Watch the pitch video where Fargo explains the core ideas and his experiences pitching this to publishers, or read to lengthy write-up.
Nuts and bolts time.

We’re going back to the original and building from there. No first person shooter, we’re going top down so you get a tactical feel for the situation. And we’re not ditching the party play to turn it into some hack-and-slash bloodfest. It’s turn based, tactical, with a storyline that will be deeper and broader.

We’re determined to keep the gritty, grim and satirical writing. We’re going to pitch those moral dilemmas at you. You’re going to be faced with the consequences of your actions.

We’re planning on an initial 6 months of pre-production. We’ll nail down every important element that you, our creative partners, want. Once we have all that figured out, we buckle down for 12 month development cycle. During that time, players can get a sneak peek on a private closed beta through Steam. In addition, we will be giving you constant updates and showing you our progress along the way.
Some points on Kickstarter for people new to it:
- Money pledged to Kickstarter is "pledged". It won't be immediately removed from your credit card. Rather, only if Wasteland 2 makes it goal (of $900K) will the money be donated, on the final day of the Kickstarter drive.
- Kickstarter works with Amazon payments. You'll need an Amazon account and a credit card. If you don't have a credit card, try a prepaid service like My Wirecard, or a service offered by your bank. Ask in this thread if you have any questions, we might be able to help.

EDIT: the FAQ on the Kickstarter drive page has been updated. There is no shipping for the box inside the US, but outside the US you need to add $15 to your pledge amount to get the box (either the normal box or CE box) shipped to you.

EDIT2: Russian users, here is a Kickstarter guide for you.

Hah, someone already pledged $1000. Was waiting to be the first to pounce on an NPC name.

$3316 and increasing every time I refresh. I'll donate my $100 later today.

They've got my support. Good luck team

For reference: $6,441/70 and ticking

Can't pay, as I do not use credit cards. They have to waive my 15$. :?
(I won't buy a credit card just to be able to pay for it)

As mentioned, there are services available to avoid this problem. Mywirecard is a digital credit card, it charges you a euro for each wire transfer but I don't think it has any other costs. Alternatives exist, you don't strictly need a credit card.

Or use someone else's. 's what I'm doing.

As mentioned before, there are ways of doing it without having an actual credit card.

You can use a prepaid card as well.

Btw. what's the music in the end of the video?

How are the postal fees handled? I live in Eastern Europe and i currently pledged 50 dollars for the box. But I assume that shipping over here will take a further 10-20 bucks?

Or is this a issue that will be resolved if the project manages to get the funds and is nearing completion?

The video starts a little slow but gets really funny after that. I kicked in $50 and may bump it up. I got bored and calculated that they need $1,071 USD an hour to get to $900,000 by the deadline.

No idea to be honest. I advised Fargo to put in $10 of flat shipping, but it's not mentioned anywhere. Maybe he just decided for them to cover shipping cost themselves? Seems unwise. Hopefully we'll have more on this later today.

They got 1% of the needed sum within an hour of the Kickstarter's launch, when most of the US is asleep and before they got any major coverage. Looks pretty optimistic so far.

I'll have to make a prepaid card for this but I'll pledge for sure. :)

I'm curious to compare the numbers with Double Fine's kickstarter.
-400.000$ in 8 hours
-1.000.000$ in 25 hours
-3.000.000$ total

at the bottom of the FAQ on the page it says

Do I need to pledge more for International shipping?
Yes, please. Add $15 for shipping outside of the U.S. on any pledge of $50 or more.

they put that up a few minutes ago.

My gut feeling is that Double Fine will have slightly better stats

$17,185 / 174

It's going up quickly! I hope to get my $100 in before the end of 34 days, as I do not have that amount currently.

Their Special Thanks section in the credits is going to be FUCKHUGE.
