To say people around here are excited about Wasteland 2 is a understatement! Fallout would not exist without Wasteland, but the two are different in many ways. What do you want to see in Wasteland 2?

I have a few to start off with:

Isometric view
Detailed item/npc/location information.
Weapon mods.
Turned based combat or maybe real time pause like in Tactics?
Extensive dialog trees. Stupid dialog for stupid characters.
Iron Man mode of some sort.
Ability to split party up. Allow for large parties of at least 6 characters.
Mod support.
More mature themes than in recent RPG's - racism, sex trafficking, drugs, gambling, etc..
Weapon and Armor repair.
Some sort of character base/HQ- Like in the original. No dollhouse BS. Just a place to drop your gear
Quest instructions via NPCs, books, maps, etc. No quest compass, or at least make it optional.
Multiple solutions to quests. Allow some quests to be handled diplomatically without any combat.
Maybe give a slight nod to Fallout?
No level scaling unless done right.
Ability to add notes to maps/journal.
Manage your characters needs: Hunger, Thirst, Fatigue, and Warmth.
The more monsters the better!
Character/enemy portraits.
Include a recap of Wasteland 1 for new players.
Killable children would be nice.
More text than you can shake a stick at.
Is it to much to ask for multiple endings and alternate outcomes? With the short time span for development I'm not sure....

That is all for now. I am curious to see what people can come up with. I haven't played a good old school RPG in awhile, so I am putting all of my faith into this project. This game could bring RPG's out of the gutter. It may be our last best hope for a classic RPG. I get excited just thinking about it!

Organizing the order of your party (you go first, I'm right behind)
Ability to develop all characters' personalities, rather than having a 'main' one
Can make your own party at the start of the game, like in the original
No rolls during character creations!

That's everything I could think of so far.

NPCS with large stories that can be built apon depending your actions (and offer side missions and upgrades)... aswell as a few build npcs (buying slaves that do certain jobs, creating robots/animals ect...)

Reputation or Good/Bad

Treat it like it's a wasteland... everyones game and anything can be done... freedom but also a side effect to that freedom (running round in a wasteland should have some negativity)

my list:
Equality awesome intro like wasteland 1 where you see the nuclear endgame.

Good party system, but be able to do it solo.

Good writing, can not stand crappy dialog.

Do not be a sandbox game. instead use old over world map or hand drawn over world map that changes depending what you do (drawing in the side or notes).

Use a good game 3d, top down. No copy pasta.

Use a good interface on items, skills and status. If they make it fore console, then make the interface different on the pc (can not stand the interface fore fallout New Vegas).

Karma system: no good or bad, no factions that are to retarded to survive the wasteland. Infarct there must be a logic why there are there, like food, energy or trading.

There should be several ways to solve a problem.

ether it is turn based or real time there are no good combinations.

mature elements like prostitution, racists robots, drugs... ect.

No options to mod weps and armor except fore in a quest line or true skills (which are hard to get.)

No weapon and armor repair (do not make us repair our weapons every 5 min thank you.)

Take notes, in a journal.

Survival in the waste in a non retarded way.

Tell them what happened in wasteland 1: Nobel sacrifice of the party in Cochise Base bla. bla. bla...

Make the robots interesting, humanized robots white almost human problems, huge variation of robots which had different jobs that is re modified.

Make monster beast explainable, like why the hell is that cockroach as big as a car, why are the lizards shooting radioactive acid in my face.

No zombies, mutants ok.

edit: and add hats

I'm okey with turn based combat, but I would prefer pause like Icewind Dale and Baldurs Gate.
Also I hope that you won't have access to high end weapons for as long as possible. Trying to survive is much more 'fun' than blasting everything to dust and feeling godlike. :D

Here's a wishlist from someone who has never played the first

Make it a Isometric map and Sandbox Gameplay (best of both worlds)
Start the game with a squad of five and gain up to eight people in one squad.
Ability to have unique conversation with everyone.
Ability to do certain things like become a trader, farmer, contract killer etc.
A BIG game world
No Karma system, instead have one similar to Fallout's Reputation.
Ability to customise Character's background
Character's age with Gameplay.
NPC's don't do stupid things such as run away in battle when their holding a gun.
Monsters
Fallout/Mad Max refrenced
Monsters
NO religious Advertising
Monsters
Good writting
Monsters
Ambient music (very imporntant)
Monsters
Make it realsitic (or as close to a post apoc setting as possible)
Did I mention Monsters?

And most if they want to make alot of money outta the game, make it a reboot. I would think a few people will put of buying a sequal to a game they have never heard of. Besides, the last game was over twenty years ago, they should at least start again

Yes but there hasn't been a wasteland game for 20+ years. At least with Fallout 3 there was that crappy spin off PoS that was released four years before hand, and Tactics three before that. One way or another, the Fallout series has never truely died.

- Isometric view (normally, I would say FPS...but those are a dime a dozen these days. We need some new blood)

- A large world

- Mutants

- Hi-tech weaponry

- A dismal, oppressive atmosphere

- Different Ammo types

- Vehicles

- Survival mode (characters need to eat, drink, sleep etc)

I also would like to see a vast multitude of weapons available. But more importantly, I would like to see some more realistic weapon depiction and mechanics in video games in general.

Damage should be based on ammunition type. There should not be two semi auto weapons that take the same ammo doing considerably more or less damage than the other.

No one gun should really be better than all the others. In real life, everything including break action, bolt action and fully auto weapons have advantages and disadvantages over others. The differences matter on a tactical level. If you're 25 feet from an unarmoured guy and manage to hit him with one shot, it doesn't matter if it's a 9mm or a 7.62x39 he's going to go down either way.

While for the most part, the differences between semi auto handguns of the similar caliber/mag cap/barrel length are going to be minor, or at least more complex than you'd want to incorporate into a video game. EG: Glock 17 vs Beretta 92, depending on how graphical the game is, it would be nice to see some variety in these as well.

A huge complaint I have with FO3(Ok there's a lot to complain about, particularly in the weapon design) But that a break action shotgun should be infinitely more durable and reliable than any other type of shotgun. Not lose a 12th of it's durability with each shot.
If durability is a factor in WL2, I'd like to see this remedied.

This almost seems like I want the game to be more focused on guns than it should be.
But it's also going to remove the focus from trying to obtain better and better weapons. Potentially, that first pistol you find could stick with you through the entire game. You won't hit that point where you're held back because your gun doesn't do enough damage. A higher mag cap might be useful, or a rifle might be better suited, but in a pinch, your sidearm could still save your ass.
In the case of robot scorpions or something the size of a moose, you might need something with a little more oomph to take them down. But again, that should be determined by the ammo type, not some magical, one of a kind AR that somehow does more damage than an AK-47 that for some reason fires the same kind of ammunition.

Other hopes include a variety of armours and clothing. Again, no single armour is the best in the game.
This is less important if character customization isn't going to be a primary focus, though I always prefer it to be.

I too would like to see less censorship. The FCC did not survive the nukes.
In video games, I don't think sex and nudity is as much of a distraction as it is when you throw it into a movie that otherwise isn't primarily about sex. It might get ogled for a bit, but eventually the novelty wears off and people play the game.

Either way. Thanks to the entire Wasteland team. I'm really excited to see what you crank out!

i'll skip the most common wishes:

Side-line missions from team members. (like they did in WL1)

Fight & brawling between team members. (Jagged Alliance 2 did well..)

Team members work as spies or thieves from enemy factions.
(rememeber the japnese guy in Baldur's Gate 2?)

Alcohol leads to miracle. (drink it, lit it, throw it towards enemies, use it as fuel on certain vehicles...)

Cigarettes. (*cough*)

Skin-able enemies. (then trade it or make some jackets)

U can throw everything to everyone & Kicking leads to miracles (got them from NetHack)

Collapse kills (floating roof isnt funny)
