Who's your favorite movie Director?

I suppose mine would have to be Stanley Kubrick. The 1972 film "Clockwork Orange" was somewhat "diffirent" (a woman being killed by a giant ornamental penis). Although some of his best films that he directed were The Shining (1980), Full Metal Jacket (1987), and Eyes Wide Shut (1999), which was his last film before he died.

Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts...

No, seriously; I've got a couple of 'real' favourites. Top three would be something like Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson and Bill Murray (no particular order).

Oh, and that guy who plays Gandalf also gets a plus, cause he's gay. ;)

Directors?

Don't think Kubrick's too snazzy, he makes as much sucky movies as he does ULTIMATELY COOL ones.

Scorcese and Coppola are both pretty good.

Best would prolly be the Japanese director (who I think is dead) Akira Kurosawa, of Yojimbo and Shichinin no Samurai.

1. Kubrick - 'Strangelove' and 'A clockwork orange'
2. Speilberg - 'Saving Private Ryan' and The indaina Jones Trilogy
3. David Fincer -'Seven' and 'Fight Club'
4. Scorcese - Needs no explainaiton

Honerable Mentions

Coppala and Lucas (who i think of as more Producer/Director)
Tarantino

Up and Coming

Darren Aronofsky (PI)
Christopher Nolan (Memento)

Jeunet et Caro

That pair has done great work on a few movies, like good games, they tend to turn out deep and good. The City of Lost Children is a movie where you have to watch it numerous times to begin understanding the depth of the world and get the backstory, but it's a fun watch even the first time. Delicatessen was another good movie of theirs. Despite the dragging on of the story, Aliens 4 was pretty good in terms of direction, but could have used a little of the dark, chilling style J&C are known for although their manner of sequential events wouldn't have fit that well.

Coppola - Apocalypse Now
Fincher - Seven and Fight Club
Hitchcock

Can't forget about Kubrick either, although his are somewhat...how should I say...off-center.

Anyways, I think the three carry suspense and drama consistently throughout their movies, which is what I care about.

Fellini tops the list as my favorite. Others as follows:

Coen Brothers
Jim Jarmusch
David Lynch
David Lean
Jean-Luc Godard
Luc Besson
Jeunet & Caro

Whoever did Black Hawk Down.

Having been in the Army and to the middle east, I think the way he captured the whole aspect of the soldiers there was incredible. The movie really brought back memories of my 14 months of overseas service...

Well Ridley Scott has done much better films but he isn't all that great. His best was Bladerunner of course - no questions about it. Just for Bladerunner alone I'd worship him. Alien was pretty good and so was Thelma and Louise but most of his others were just mediocre Hollywood films. I also liked Black Rain, Gladiator and Black Hawk Down but they were not great films.

It was Jorge Lukas until he fuckt star wars all up whit episode 1 and 2, i just hope number 3 will be better (much better)
