Working Mods for Intel Mac

OnGame900

First time out of the vault
Even though the answer to this first question is probably no, I have to ask anyway. Is there a way to get the Megamod to work for a Macintosh computer? It looks like an amazing mod, but my attempts at using it leave me with a black screen and a player who can walk infinitely in any direction, leaving a trail of animation stills behind it. I suppose it is new, challenging, and different, but it's not quite the game experience I'm after.

Moving on, even trying to get the mac intended mod, JonaMod, I'm having debilitating issues. I've managed to install most of the files correctly, and the game is indeed a bit different (stronger enemies and ammo,) but I wasn't able to get the application's package contents updated. There's two files I'm supposed to update, a patch and a file called Fallout2 in the Contents/MacOS folder. When I install the new patch the game immediately closes itself after the loading screen, and when I install the Fallout2 file the game doesn't even open at all! The Pipboy icon changes into a generic application icon, and when I try to play it, it says the application is broken.

Has any one else had this problem? More pressingly, has any one ever fixed it? I have one of the new duel processor intel macs, if that could have anything to do with it. OSX10.4.10 and 2GB memory.

If any one knows how to get these mods to work, or any significant mods at all, I'd greatly appreciate it. As great a game as Fallout is, it gets a bit repetitive once you've memorized the stats and location of every sprite. Having played it for the last 7 years, I'm looking for something a bit different.[/i]

I sure can't help you, I'm afraid. I have no idea how the file/folder structure works on a mac. Good luck.

It was weird, the first time I downloaded the killap patch, from the exact same link, I got a replacement data file and a useless exe. file. Second time it has the working patch, and everything's great. Having a bug-free fallout should be pretty cool, actually play it withoutworrying about crazy errors.

One last question, I guess. Is converting a standard mod to a mac mod hard? Can I ever expect some really great mac mods to come out? Or should I just bite the bullet and install Windows on my computer. I can't live a happy life if I havn't seen these three new towns

Mac modding isn't popular, that's for sure, so don't hold your breath.

As for conversions, that's a good question. I'll ask Killap if he can comment.

Well, I have no experience with working on Fallout under Macs, but the people who helped make the Mac version of my patch possible included these comments for installing the patch.

Code:
Install Fallout. Update to version 1.02.
Contol-click on Fallout application and select Show Package Contents. This will open a new window.
Open Contents folder, then Resources folder, then GameData folder
Drop the new patch000.dat file into the GameData folder.
When asked to replace, select Replace.
Close the window.
Start a new game. Do NOT try to play a previous version saved game.

There was some discussion about a different folder hierarchy for all the files, but from what I noticed everything appears to be in the same order as it is on PCs. Since the last time I used Macs was when I was in grade school, I don't remember too much about them. Are the above instructions essentially the same as copying over a file to a new folder as is done on PCs? If so, then that means all that is required in making a mod work under Macs is to compress it into a dat file and use the above instructions. However, this means only one mod can be used at once, but that won't really matter since MegaMod pretty much includes everything.
