It's a new year and already the RP gets updated!? Yeah, I broke something in the last release as I rushed it out the door before new year celebrations. Just goes to show, Fallout laughed at my yearn for freedom. ;)

So, here's the REAL update that RP 2.3.1 was supposed to be. In addition to fixing the nasty bug, I also reverted a seemingly controversial change made to casinos in New Reno. I also restored some lost content. Apparently that never ends.

This is my true New Years gift to you all. I now really do need a long break from all this.

Note: Previous 2.2 save games should be compatible, but to ensure no problems come up please start anew. There are some areas that will potentially break with old saves unless you enter them for the first time. 2.3 saves are even more compatible but better safe than sorry. You've been warned.


Bug reports should be added to the Fallout 2 RP bug report wiki. A link can be found below. Posting only in this thread risks your report being lost over time.


Installation instructions:

1. Make a clean installation of Fallout 2 (humongous install). If you are running Visa/7/8, be sure to NOT install in the c:\program files directory.
2. Download and install the RP (only use the manual install if you really know what you're doing)
3. That's it. Don't install anything else, unless you know what you're doing!

• Some female children were still incorrectly using the male child model instead of the new female one.

• Fixed nasty bug accidently introduced with the extended dance sequence in the last release. Sorry about that!
• Restored missing script that triggers when entering Lloyd's room.
• Reverted change about casinos becoming abandoned after wiping out a gang family. While logical, it became controversial and other areas of the game don't get affected in this way. So, it's all or nothing and we're going with back to the vanilla state (nothing).

• Unlocked dialogue for Cassidy where he talks about his dislike of  Myron. This is all vanilla and I swear it was unlocked long ago, but  seems to have been lost. Anyway, it's back!

New Reno:

• Extended the dance sequence that you can do as a female player at the Shark Club.
• Wiping out a gang family causes the casino to become abandoned (i.e. you can't gamble anymore, the patrons leave, etc).

• Killing the spore plants on the Green Level no longer counts towards wiping out the plants on the surface.

Vault 13:

• Unlocked conversation with Goris asking him about his true identity. This was prevented before by bad vanilla scripting.

Random Encounters:

• Fixed crashes with Kaga. Most cropped up due to saving/loading during  his encounter, but this should also make his encounter more stable in  general as well. Also potentially fixes the issue where you would  encounter Kaga but the map would be empty.

Misc:

• Added high-res patch v3.06 as a legacy option in the installer for Mac  OS users and those that need to use an older version of the high-res  mod because of graphic/UI problems.
• Installer fix for Russian translation: Deselecting Cassidy's new voice  will correctly NOT copy over the Russian voiced files. Before, the  Russian voice files were always copied over when you chose the Russian  language, no matter what Cassidy options you set.
• Several vanilla fixes that I won't list here (unofficial patch docs  has that info), but I want to at least mention it so you don't think  this release of the RP isn't worth the update. ;)
 
I recently edited the npc scripts to mod for unlimited party members for RP 2.3.1. Do I need to redo it for 2.3.2 or can I use the edits I made for 2.3.1?

No companions were modified for 2.3.2, so you don't have to redo anything if you already based it off 2.3.1.

@killap: I'm still currently using the 2.3 RP and in gecko I can't seem to get the quest on Skeeter to get him a 3 step plasma transformer... it says in the wiki's that I only need to get uprgadable weapons for him in order for the quest to be activated however it doesn't... on a vanilla game it activated... I don't know if it's just me but you can try and check it out yourself...

EDIT:forgot to mentio that I already gave Skeeter a super toolkit which is also pre requisite to activate the quest

I don't actually remember how it works. Could you post a save game somewhere?

EDIT: Wait, was this one of those one time only quests? I'm recalling something and based on Per's guide...

Skeeter will ask for this when you bring him the Tool Kit, if at the time you are carrying at least one weapon that he can upgrade.

Just did a quick test for this, and it does seem an one time only quest.
If I give him the super tools kit with upgradable weapons in my inventory, he'll give me the quest to get the plasma transformer.
If I don't have any upgradable weapon at the moment, after that I can only ask him for "normal" (pay) upgrades.
 
Do I also have to reinstall if I only downloaded the unofficial patch, or is this directed at those who downloaded the RP only?

You might as well. Always start anew, it's the safest. If you can't reinstall then alright, you should be okay.

I wonder if we'll see a bunch of folks naming their next Fallout 2 player characters after you... uh, not that I'm planning to do that, of course...
 
okay well looks like it wasn't a bug... my bad.

Well since I haven't checked the older versions of the RP (except 1.2), I want to ask if getting the good endings in the some of the cities aren't bugged anymore or glitched. specifically Vault 13, Vault City, Gecko.

I have two CTD problems.

1. when Chosen one die, Just crash to desktop. There is no exception.

2. Whenever I try to move westside or eastside of New reno from second street, game is crashed.

Actually, If I try to back to virgin street from second street, game is crashed. Even I go out to world map and come back to new reno map, same crash happen.

It looks like New reno files totally fucked up.

Fallout RP mod is so great, so I don't want to quit the game at this point.

Please, help.</my></my>

I guess there might be some corruption of your game files. What's your FO2 version, from physical CD, GOG, or Steam?

They shouldn't be. But read Per's guide so that you don't *think* their bugged when you actually missed a key thing.

@wargodlhs How did you install the game? Is this all a fresh install?
 
@killap All a fresh install. @NovaRain From GOG.

Did I miss something? Should I have to install Unofficial patch first? My os is win7 64, by the way.

I've said it once, I'll say it again; EXCELLENT mod, Killap and nice work! I'm installing your latest RP, (I'm a long time fan of your mod)--whenever I recommend Fallout 2 to one of my friends I also tell them your mod is a MUST for a second playthrough :)
 
Hey, killap, good job on the mod!

However, I've spotted a discrepancy in easteregg text. In RP 2.2, there was "Emperor" Timeslip everywhere, which you changed to "Empress" Timeslip in 2.3.X, yet there is still one line left with "Emperor" - {1000}{}{You see Emperor Timeslip.}

Another nitpicking thing - Every dot and space has been corrected, yet there's still two types of brackets used to express NPC or player action. Shouldn't only one be used?

For the test, I started new game and ran to new reno. guess what, same problem happened. that means It is not a save file problem.

And, I also tested death and crash issue by vanilla version. In vanilla version, when I die, after the death scene and just go back to main title screen.
