Linux input bugs (Linux Mint 16 + XFCE Desktop)

Hey guys, hope you can help me rectify this issue. Basically, I've replaced my old Windows XP Home Edition (
[*]) with Linux Mint 16. Performance woes that occasionally emerge aside, I've encountered a silly bug ever since I connected Kindle yesterday.

I'm using an old Toshiba Satellite A110 and the touchpad used to work well both under Cinnamon and XFCE, but yesterday it began to jerk around as I moved my finger on the touchpad (suddenly reappearing in a different position, typically about 75 pixels lower, with no order to it), occasionally randomly clicking on stuff. My keyboard also had a bit of a freakout, getting stuck on a pressed key software-wise and filling a space with one character for ever and ever.

EDIT: Now it's even worse. When using the touchpad, it will suddenly dash across half the screen, making rogue RMB clicks along the way.

Did anyone encounter this bug? Should I be afraid?

Not particularly on topic but, can you do gaming as you regular could on your Linux. I mean, now that you've bought a Linux, does that mean that you have a bunch of games you can no longer play since you don't have a Windows/Mac?

Also, back on topic, I've encountered stuff like this, but not on a Linux. I have a Windows 8 Touch Screen and at times when I try to use both the touch screen and the mouse, my cursor will move on it's own, or jerk around like that. It was never anything big for me, so it was never something I'd worry about.

Linux is free, I just downloaded the .iso they provide and installed it from a live USB stick.

The problem is that I have Windows at home and here I can only use Linux for work. Having the cursor behave like a 50 year old male virgin doesn't help.

You're not alone, do not despair!

As a non-Linux user, I'm providing at least this little encouragement to you.

Have you installed or removed something recently and have you worked with the same (no-reinstalled) system before with no issues. Sometimes, if you purge (remove with dependencies) some program, it might also remove dependencies for other programs/drivers. Also, i have never had anything with the "touch" thing, but why not try to install gnome, unity or any other desktop environment alongside the one you have now, and try how they work.

Mostly all flavors of linux (and there are alot of them) are free, as well as a bunch of applications that you can install with a click of a button. You can game on linux, BUT ... Success is not always guaranteed. What you do, is download a program called wine, which emulates a windows environment and install, launch the games through it (you can also use it for other various programs that are not on linux). It doesn't induce any additional lag, at least i never noticed it. Some games run and some do not and some old games that have issues with windows actually run without problems through wine. I personally played Team Fortress 2, Ice Wind Dale and some other games i don't remember on linux without problems. Have seen people playing Crisis and similar games also. Also, if you have an ATI video card, you can forget about gaming on linux, at least the last time i checked, as the only sort of supported gpu drivers available are for Geforce ( not the fault of linux kernel developers, since the gpu manufacturers don't seem to help out, like at all). There are linux native gpu drivers, but since the linux guys wrote them from scratch without any helping input from the manufacturers, they are not as good.

In any case, it's free, so you can try it out, preferably choose Ubuntu or Mint, as these systems are most user friendly.

It got even worse. Now the keyboard randomly shuts off, then activates spamming the last keystroke (eg. wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww), only returning to normal after a few moments, up to a minute. The worst is when it refuses to recognize any sort of keyboard at all.

I've switched to XFCE after trying Cinnamon. The problems began after hooking up a Kindle or maybe I just didn't recognize them earlier.
