What do you think happened to North and South Carolina after the Great War?

I live in NC. I'd be very curious to know what happened to NC and SC after the great war considering the only targets pretty valuable to the Chinese would be Greensboro and Charlotte considering Greensboro holds most of the power for the Eastern seaboard. I doubt anything in SC would get touched considering SC already looks like a wasteland (Ohhhhhh snap!). You think there would be any Vaults down here? I thought of a few I'd say a Vault 93, Vault 97, and probably a Vault 110 would be here and I'd say Vault 97 would be located under Fort Bragg. Do you have any theories here? Forgot to say Fort Bragg would get nuked as well during the event of a nuclear war.

Out of curiosity, are there are any nuclear missiles bases in NC or SC?
Also, is there any major industry that would contribute to the military or government infrastructure?

Not that I know of no missile sites. But there is Fort Bragg and I'm told that in the incident of a nuclear war the priority targets would've been D.C, Greensboro, Fort Bragg, and then NYC.

Not that I know of.

I'd say it would be bombed because of the cities, but the country side may be ravaged only by the radiation.
Most of us would survive then. If Greensboro and Fort Bragg are the only priority targets. And since Charlotte is the biggest population center in NC (poof) gone.

I'm an SC native, so I can share a bit on that. Outside of Charleston (a large port city), a few productions plants (although number is going up over the recent years) and some military bases. At one time, SC had one of the largest bombing squadrons, but it's closed up shop and move up state. So I would interested seeing a Fallout game set in both NC and SC.

Probably. At the very least one would be there.

I live in NC.
INSTANTLY now all I can care about is the question, "Do you live next to The Pit barbeque restaurant?" I got a friend (whom I need to get back in touch with) who lived down the street from it, and I just wanted to throttle him when I found that out.

Maybe around Columbia (most decently populated city here) I could see them having 2 or 3. Lots of farms and fishing places around the coast as well and experienced hunters. So SC and NC would probably be pretty well off. I know in Point Lookout, the ferry guy mentions going down the coast to NC.

No. I live in a small city 30 miles away from Greensboro. Where is the Pit though? I'd Vault 93 would be in Greensboro.

Then either state would probably be a low priority target, the big cities would be targeted of course (lots of people there) but there would not be any high priority targets similar to West Tek for example that would demand repeated strikes.

(hmm I could actually see how this could make it appealing for those in the military who plan the placement of important or secret military installations, those within the government, or those in corporations, to make use of this information to place something here)

I could imagine that both NC and SC might come out relatively well, the less populated regions might suffer from secondary effects of the bombing in the states and neighbouring states, affected weather patterns, and of course the collapse of order and services.
But I could imagine that a lot would still be standing after the worst is over.

Are there any important power plants or energy corporation installations?

Probably still complaining about the Federal Government, 200+ years after the war. Just kidding, I would like to see the Fallout version of Fort Bragg or find a giant bombed out crater/ Glow-esque location where Bragg used to be etc.

That was my idea for where the location of Vault 97 would be. It'd be made of members from every military branch passing on down the line to make a paramilitaristic vault.

We have Santee Copper, which is the state run electric company, as well as places like Charleston Air Force Base (which is fairly large) and some of smaller air bases along with some national guard stations as well. PTR Industries, which makes the PTR 91 and other assault rifles. PTR is located in Anyor, SC, which has a population of around 680 people. Santee Cooper is located in Moncks corner, which has a population of less than 8000. I could see Charleston being a target, but given NC and SC low rank on the targets to hit, it might get spared a direct hit.

Vault number?

Perhaps Vault 85. Have it set up update to house key people in charge of rebuilding the state or at least setting up a Vault City style settlement around the vault.

That seems accurate, when engaging in global thermonuclear war your priority targets would be (in order).
1) Command & Control
2) Other Military installations
3) Infrastructure
4) Large population centers.

So Ft. Bragg would likely be targeted by ICBMs with some redundancy. I would then assume that everything within ~50 miles of Ft. Bragg would be leveled (probably more slightly more than that, think 50 mile radius circles whose center is somewhere near Ft. Bragg) but with that level of ordinance devoted to a single target in the area, you might not send a lot more missiles in the area.

So I would say, if you asked me to lay out the design for a post-war Carolinas, that what's most likely is that the central region of the two state region is completely destroyed, a big sandy irradiated crater (approximate boundaries would be interstates 40 on the North, 95 on the East, 20 on the South, and 77 on the West) , but there's an annular region around it in which is vastly more habitable. Since passage across the crater is difficult, dangerous, or impossible this results in some odd local politics as each faction has a left and a right border to maintain and travel is difficult. Most of the surviving people are probably in and around what used to be the national forest towards the western parts of those states.
