What are some games that require very little interaction?

CzigBot

First time out of the vault
Such as X3:Terran Conflict when autopiloting between stations to trade, or Farming Simulator 2013 with automation mods. This is so I can read and have something entertaining going at the same time.

I don't find screensavers entertaining because they have no sense of progression. I want a game where I can do all the things I can in any other game, getting better items, more money, and so forth to work towards a final goal. But able to play itself for at least, say, five minutes at a time so I can read. This excludes those clicker games because they have no final goal, only incremental infinite progression.

So you get bored after reading for five minutes but not bored enough for you to stop reading? (Just trying to understand your motivation.)

I don't get bored after 5 minutes, I want to be able to read for at least five minutes because if it's much less than that, I'll have to be managing the game every other sentence, which would inhibit my reading. I get bored after 30 minutes to 2 hours (Or more if it's a very good book) without a game to play, depending on my mood and the book I'm reading. I also read more often when I have a game, I'll pick up the book more days than not.

I think you should rather get better books oO
Anyway, nothing really comes to mind. Non-interactivity is not really a feature that's commonly used in games, because, well, it's kinda the opposite of what a game is.
Maybe Supreme Commander with a few bots playing against each other?

Sims, set them all to do just follow their own impulses

Anything turn-based, the game sits still and waits for you to do something

Orbiter, aim your space ship for Jupiter, you won't have to bother with it for years :0

You can't go wrong with this:

Banished. Don't speed anything up. It may require a bit of a time investment to start with, to get a village that isn't going to die if you leave them alone for too long. But I managed to reach a point where my village had enough people, food, supplies, etc, to function completely autonomous from me. Just come back every once in a while to talk to a trader that came to town, manage the occasional crop infestation, and you're good to go.

EVE Online would be perfect for you.

Just choose to be a miner or some desk jockey and you'll have enough busy work to entertain yourself while watching TV/movies/ whatever.

Sins of a Solar Empire?

Any of the Sims games could be a good opton too, altho Sims 3 and 4 are resource hogs.

If it must be a game...
Then try Homeworld or Homeworld:Cataclysm, or Homewolrd 2 , where you can lock the camera onto a harvester ship, and let it harvest the resources around it. It will do that in real time for as long as there are resources left.

Or better yet; pick a few long *let's plays* on youtube, and make a playlist that can run in the background.

Does the Civilisation series count? I'm particularly attached to Civ 5, but the older games in the series aren't bad at all, as far as I know.

I like going into a really busy part of GTA V and just watch the simulated life, traffic, peds, traffic running over peds... awesome hilarity ensues, cops and ambos rock up and then do nothing, day/night cycles, some of the phone conversations of npcs you can overhear are really funny. Good fun doing nothing :P or reading I s'pose...
