Sui Generis RPG by Bare Mettle Entertainment

I remember the kickstarter for this a couple years ago. They released some alpha stuff and a sort of side game called Exanima related to it, but I haven't seen any news about the actual Sui Generis game being finished yet.

Anyone familiar with this game? I don't see a release date for Sui Generis. It's main appeal when it was revealed was its game engine which allows for impressive physics. It's a top down isometric RPG.

Exanima is apparently on GOG and Steam Early Access now and has good reviews but I'm wondering about the actual Sui Generis project and its release date.

I've been following Exanima on Steam since I'm not in the habit of buying early access. It would be nice if they brought Exanima out of early access before moving on to something else since the general consensus is that the combat looks like 2 drunks going at it after last call, but if not I guess it will just sit on my followed list.

Whoa, looks very impressive. Dat physics..... the gameplay seems neat, if not somewhat sloppy and kind of feels clunky and looked drunk like Spacemunkey said. Somewhat Soulsborne-inspired, too, which could be an explanation as to why they didn't show any kind of C&C.

I haven't followed it closely, but the grapevine told me that they spent all the Sui Generis kickstarter cash and are now praying that the early-access spin-off game makes enough money for them to finish the actual game.

They missed a golden opportunity, this game could have been the first ever drunk fighting simulator/rpg.

Ugh. How many kickstarters have ended up with:

Game developer: "Hey guys! I are game developar! Give me cash for these concept arts!"

Backers: "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"

Game developer 3 years later: "I didn't realize how expensive making a game was. All the cash is gone and we have no development team. My badz lol!"

So many people used kickstarter to pretend to be game developers and build up a hype train for money when they actually had no experience or idea how to manage money. I hope that didn't happen with this one though.

From what I've seen, not much has happened since they first announced it. Sure, the physics are impressive and I like the mood, but it all looks extremely gimmicky. Once the novelty wears off, what is the game actually going to offer?

I have about 90 hours in Exanima and all I can say is that it's unlike anything I've ever played. If you can get around the drunkish animations (which, by the way, they are continuously working on), what you have is an incredibly deep combat system.

the animations themselves aren't necessarily prebaked, so you find you have to wind up your swings and move into the swing if you want to increase the power, especially if you're using a polearm or something. It's incredibly difficult, but so rewarding. If you ask me, it's definitely worth the £10. If you buy it from their site, you get a DRM free version as well as a steam key.

One of the insiders showed off the most recent closed beta. The animations are a lot quicker and fighting seems much tighter:
