So it looks like our suspicions are confirmed. Skyrim is getting a remaster. No doubt its because Bethesda wants to cash in on the mod scene for console gamers who want mods for Skyrim on consoles. Can't wait for the console kiddies to begin stealing mods from the Skyrim Nexus.

I'm already predicting the mod thefts (with one person going to be infamous for trying to steal the Falskaar mod). As for the remaster, it looks like a basic Skyrim game that has been modded on PC with good graphic mods.

I honestly can't tell much of a difference between the old vanilla Skyrim and the "Remastered" version. Most of the mods I have make Skyrim look better then the Remastered version.

It's not even an old game. It's probably just to get another round of sales from console users so they can use Skyrim mods.

Bethesda really is turning into EA with this stuff.

I hope they put Preston Garvey in the remaster. He can give you dungeon crawls to infinity.

I guess they kind of needed to do this so all those mods that are stolen will work on consoles. I do hope it fixes some shit though.

Mod thefts AHOY!!!! I will give them credit at least they are giving it away for free on PC, nice enough gesture I suppose. Though I am predicting no bugs will be fixed and possibly more stuff will be broken on top of all that because that is how Bethesda rolls.

I assume they are giving it for free on PC so that the PC players will not criticize it... So there is not a forum full of PC players going around saying it was a ripoff and it isn't better than the original with mods and so on...
To keep the house clean and avoid making console users think twice about buying it.

That is exactly why they are doing it, they probably realize that few PC players will buy it because they already have their fancy texture mods and their fancy ENBs so why would they want to upgrade? Funny now console peasants will be complaining, "Why do PC players get it for free and we don't? THAT ISN'T FAIR!!!" I have already seen it myself, gave me a good chuckle.

The game is not even half a decade old yet... it still has to reached its fifth anniversary to be a 5 year-old game. What the hell were they thinking, remastering a game from late 2011? It should have been Daggerfall or Morrowind, mainly the latter, as it is probably the only tolerable game in the franchise.

Simple, it's a game many people still love, it's not on the Next Gen consoles, and it can be easily ported to the newest version of the Creation Engine.
Remastering Skyrim gets them the most bang for their buck, really. Use the updated engine from Fallout 4, add a few high res textures, do some bugfixing, and use the mod infrastructure established with Fallout 4. PROFIT
