Is it just me?

First time out of the vault
I ignored/avoided all energy weapons in Fallout 1 and 2, because they had the worst visual effects I have ever seen in a game; a red or green stick, slowly and at an awkward angle, traveling towards the target.

Just compare it to laser and plasma weapons in new XComs..

Comparing graphical presentations for games that are nearly two decades separated?

I'm shocked a newer game looks better. Shocked.

Yeah, there was no way devs knew back then how a laser beam looks like. We only later found out that it's not a red stick.

... it doesn't actually matter that it's not a red stick/beam/whatever. You can use whatever you damn well please in fiction, that's sort of the point. As long as it's internally consistent with the world's logic, do what you like.

So... Do i give a fuck?
Nope. Judging a 20 year old game over a recent one in any aspect out of non-gameplay nor technical aspects is stupid.

Have you compared OLD Xcom games with Fallout? I bet you didn't

Bethesda uses ugly textures and animations in their latest games but you don't see people complaining ab-- nevermind.

Only good games nowadays would be the older games that don't have the "directx 12 nvidia amd hairworks bloom motion blur epic awesum effects!" that you see in videos games today and nor do they need them, graphics don't make a game anyways. :monocle:

This is 3 years before Fallout came out.
That's generally how these kinds of games do this. Looks about the same in Underrail and Xenonauts too.
Having it be a bit slower is good for visual clarity in 2D games where you can't suddenly switch to a cinematic angle to show off the shot.
