NMA Post-apocalyptic film retrospective.

Buried alive in Golgotha
In an effort to liven up the content output of the site perhaps we could do video retrospective series about Post-apocalyptic movies. I would be willing to help, but my time is very limited.

Movies we could discuss:

The Mad Max series
A Boy and His Dog
Dredd 2012
Dredd 1995 (they don't have to be good)
Hell Comes to Frogtown
Etc

In a different kind of Post Apocalypse we could also go with the three movie adaptations from the book I am Legend:
  1. Last Man on Earth - from the 1960's
  2. The Omega Man - from the 1970's
  3. I Am Legend - from the 2000's
It would be nice to see what NMA think of them and compare each other.

Here is a big list of post apocalyptic movies I can remember (if any isn't a post apocalypse then please tell me because I watched some of these many years ago and I might be remembering it wrong):

This list is already longer than I wanted so I will stop now.

@Risewild I though 2007's I am legend was a pretty decent adaptation up until
they complely changed the ending so that Neville was the hero. The original ending was far superior. The ending they replace it with barely makes sense and ruins the entire point of the novella. Neville was supposed to be the creature's boogeyman. He kidnapped the creatures wife and killed her and he's painted as the good guy? Smh

Radioactive Dreams, 1986.
I still think that this movie was the biggest inspiration for Bethesda's Fallout.
It also had a great soundtrack.

BrotherNone and I talked about this a year or so ago. He said he always wanted to do it, so for me not to do it, in a joking kind of way. It has been on my list since then. I'm a post apocalyptic film aficionado so of course I have a list of stuff that would be fun. Even shitty PA movies are ripe for the picking. Things like this are always easier to do with a ton of input.

That being said the reviews we were talking about would be articles so not in video form but why not both? Take charge Initiates! I still think we need a new official NMA Youtube channel at some point. I know it was spoken about recently.

I completely agree with your point. It would have been far more interesting and made the film far better than the standard heroic sacrifice ending they went with.

Should there be some set definitions what amounts to post-apocalyptic for this retrospective? Sure, the genre is descriptive and precise but perhaps, there should be some parameters for what films are looked at for the retrospect.

I doubt I will participate on making videos or articles because I don't mess with video stuff and I am a really slow typer and can't write properly anymore.
But what if there were categories? What about each month (or any other ammount of time) would be dedicated to different kinds of movies/PA genres?
Zombies, Aliens, Disease/Virus, Nuclear/War, Unknown, etc.

I'm not sure if I would be able to participate either. Been really busy lately so I barely write these days and I don't really make videos.

If there's some writing to be done, I might participate. Granted, I've only seen a chunk of a massive list that @Risewild put forward, but I could probably contribute.

If it's video format tho, I can't be of help.

  • Tank Girl - from the 1990's
Just rewatched that one. Quite likely the most 90's, sugar-fueled trash movie ever. All hail 90's comic adaptions. They had a charme (and by that I mean lack of quality) that modern Marvel movies just don't get.

Couldn't agree more with you there.

Still working on this project. The first run through was incredibly boring and I sounded like a robot. I am in the process reworking it now.
