are you okay with ugly characters?

I have downed 1600 hours in New Vegas and I already sqeezed it dry of all possible ending permutations, I bought the collectors edition and it's one of my favorite games. It still has a lot of problems, most of them coming from the rushed development time. It released on a pretty poor state. Far from a flawless game, mostly because such a thing doesn't exist.

I thought Fallout 4 was a fun game even if it's the weakest Fallout after 3, NV, 1, and 2. Nuka World is probably the only thing I really loved about it.

That and Piper/Cait and Nick.

KOTOR 2 has a lot going for it and is much better. Just I point out its embellic about Obsidian's flaws.

And shouldn't we be discussing ugly characters?

:)

We are. We are talking about you! OHHHHHH! BURNED. Don't mind me I'll go back to watching the wall.

Considering how popular bethesda's games really are, I don't think that ugly character ever were an issue.

All the characters looking good isn't equal to all of them being pretty, though.

A character can be as ugly as satan's butthole yet look "good" as the texture work, design, animation and the rest are well done.

That's why The Witcher kinda dominates in this department. ME's models look like they belong in Garry's Mod.

Garry's Mod reuses models from Source Engine games. Better to say Bioware facial animators and artists were messing with Garry's Mod instead of doing their job. Hardly any sort of pandering could be traced.

On the other hand, Horizon Zero Dawn looks hideous, but intentionally hideous, like there's someone else's agenda and pandering are stuck in the room like a giant elephant. Which is a problem, since before this flop, Guerilla Games didn't have any problems with art design and characters.

Well if it's a world representing a crossover between Terminator and Jurassic Park, hardly think people will have time to tend their looks. I think.

Character design can be suppled by armor/clothing design too; look at this poor sod

But it'll be inside this:

If it was true, then characters were way "uglier", but done right. But they're just different. In not a very good way.

I feel like you guys could go a bit easier on CT Phipps, no one is lesser for having a differing opinion on games. Even if they cant articulate as well as u why they feel that way. You can hate something and someone can love something, doesn't make either person a moron.

I don't think they are overrated, they aren't that successful or praised of a company. However he does have a point that they get off a bit too easy in the more old school corners of the RPG world. They can be over ambitious and make some bone headed design choices. If you ask me their two best games were Pillars, KOTOR 2 and New Vegas.
Though I would argue of those 3 I like KOTOR 2 the least (I still think its great but..)

KOTOR 1 imo is the better of the two. KOTOR 2 boasted great characters, interesting ideas/themes and more nuanced writing. But was far more dull looking and tedious to play. In terms of pacing it was a complete mess. KOTOR 1 may be a bit more traditional but it does what it does with great skill.

Am I ok with ugly characters? Well, what if i think that the examples he give aren't even ugly in the first place? I've seen far uglier people IRL, and i think most movies or games don't have really 'ugly' people.

I think that guy is just being an asshole for complaining about the ME:A characters being ugly, most of the characters dont have a single pimple, mole or wart on their face! Sure, beauty is subjective and all, but face complexion is obvious. Though yes, Bioware tend to do a poor job in copying the likeness of the models, but they probably got a few face features wrong and thus look kind of odd. Sara Ryder looks fine. Did people forgot how Ashley Williams was suddenly vamped up in ME3?

DAI stood out for not having a stereotypical hot female party member to romance. DAO had Morrigan and DA2 had Isabela, so this was a surprise for me. And whats this about Sera being ugly? For an elf's standards, probably. But to me, the only thing ugly about her is her personality.

Eh, I'm a big boy. I don't mind people disagreeing. :)

Oh, nothing wrong with her personality as long as you're sensible and hate minorities like mages and elves. :)

I never much cared for the Asari to begin with. Call me crazy but I like women with hair.

:)

As such, not a big fan of Jack either.

Even old Tandi looks better than any of the FO4 Npc faces.

I mean he is not wrong, they objectively look better no matter how much u may dislike Bethesda. I'm not saying they are the best models but still.

By far the character I have made that I am the most proud of was in Inquisition tho. Which arguably had some sharp looking characters (altho most of the romancible women that game were kinda ugly)

I don't mind ugly characters, if they're made on purpose. Mass Effect, eh, kinda weird. The male characters seem to look good and just like their face models, but they appeared to completely botched up the female models (at least for the protagonist). Which is certainly odd. But generally, not giving a shit here.

Notice this trend with DA:I and now ME:A, male characters all are better looking (in the traditional sense) and more interesting than their female counter parts. I think it may be the writers.
